Private Classical Piano Teacher

My lessons are personalized to each student, with a general musical education in mind. Students not only learn how to play a wide and diverse repertoire, but they also learn theory and ear training as a way to better understand the music they play, and the music they hear.

I have been teaching privately for over 10 years, and also teach at a local university; I have taught students of all ages, all levels and from all backgrounds.

I can help prepare for auditions, pass Certificate of Merit exams (with MTAC), enroll in SYMF, and much more.

About Andree-Ann

Hello!
Welcome to my profile - I can't wait to start working with you!

I have been teaching piano and general music topics for over 10 years; I have taught private lessons, college lectures, and high school classes - needless to say, I've seen students from all ages, all backgrounds and all levels. Lucky for me, they all one thing in common: a strong desire to learn music, and an open mind!

Some of my younger students have gone on to audition for arts high school in the greater LA area, and I've also helped a few prepare for college auditions. I've also been working with several students to prepare Certificate of Merit exams (in California) and I have been affiliated with the Southwestern Youth Music Festival as well. Other little ones were quite content learning how to play their favorite Christmas song or impress their friends

at their school's talent show.

I have also taught adults, who used to play and decided to pick it up again - or newbies wanting to discover the wonders of jazz standards.

In short, whatever your personal goal is, I can help you achieve it and hopefully inspire you to set a new goal to achieve right after that!

I can also help with music theory entrance exams, tutor for AP music classes or college classes, etc.

*Quick note on online lessons:
Many prospective students are wary of online lessons and not sure if it's the right way to go for them - I always tell them that you'll never know until you try it for sure! I have taken online lessons myself in the past and loved the experience. I can also attest that several students get a much deeper musical understanding this way, because teachers can't just play an example and have the student copy it - the teacher actually needs to explain how to perform the passage, which leads to the student understanding clearly what is expected and how to achieve it, rather than just copy someone's hand movements without understanding why they are doing it in this particular way. I'm sure you'll also be more relaxed in the comfort of your own environment, at your own scheduled time!

Professional Bio:

Through her four albums and extensive performance schedule across North America, Canadian pianist and doctoral candidate Andree-Ann Deschenes is recognized as one of the world’s foremost advocates of the Latin American piano repertoire. For her efforts, The Whole Note celebrates her as a “very gifted pianist” with “a tremendous amount of energy, humour and astonishing talent”, while her career has gained the attention of outlets such as The Villa-Lobos Magazine, Classical Post, MainlyPiano, and Voyage LA.

Characterized by its catchy melodicism and evocative chromaticism, the music of Latin America has held a special reverence in Deschenes’ heart, beginning with her pursuit of a master’s degree in Afro-Latin music. “Some of history’s most brilliant composers,” Deschenes says, “come from Latin America, but the average audience has never heard of them or their work. My mission is to create a resurgence for this music, which deserves to hold equal weight with more familiar European composers in the canon.”

At the age of 30, Deschenes’ recording career is formidable, with an output as decorated as it is prolific. All of her first three albums–Cervantes, Lecuona & Nazareth (2014), Milhaud & Ginastera (2016), and Villa Lobos & Castro (2017)–were each awarded a Silver Medal for Outstanding Achievement by the Global Music Awards. Praise in the media comes from the blog Music for Several Instruments, who remarked that Deschenes “puts across the regional Brazilian folkloric flavour with cool clarity,” as well as The Whole Note, who celebrated her third album, Villa Lobos / Castro, as “a rich program revealing… skill and artistic mastery.”

Further recognition has come for her most recent album, The Ovalle Project (2018), a comprehensive two-disc record that revives the work of late Brazilian composer Jayme Ovalle—as of now the only commercially available recording of his piano works. In reviewing the album, Classical Post called Deschenes “the perfect person to take on [Ovalle’s music] and bring life back into his works,” while Mainly Piano remarked that “the variety in the moods, intensity and tonal colors is vast [in The Ovalle Project], and Ms. Deschenes has taken the time and attention as well as research to get inside of the music.”

Based in Los Angeles, Deschenes maintains an active lecture and performance schedule. A three-time semi-finalist for The American Prize, she currently serves on faculty for the California School of the Arts, Los Angeles.

Her education includes a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Claremont Graduate University, a Master of Music degree in Afro-Latin music from California State University Los Angeles, and an Advanced Diploma in Jazz from Toronto’s Humber College. She is grateful to her pedagogues, Dr. Jenny Soonjin Kim, Dr. Paul De Castro, Dave Restivo, David Virelles, Linda Brady, Yvan Leduc, and Elisa Chaput. Deschenes’ albums can be found on all major retail and streaming platforms.

Private Classical Piano Teacher

Ms. U. has taught for over 17 years. Her pedagogical experience includes teaching the students of all ages and all skill levels, from five years old to adult, from beginner to advance players. Beside her pedagogical carrier in US as well in her native Ukraine, Alina also taught the piano in Egypt and Morocco. Her passion to provide the best knowledge to each student’s needs and abilities. This allows her to tailor each lesson accordingly to each student. Classically trained students develop the highest level of skill and ability on their instrument, and acquire a superior knowledge of music in general. An essential element of teaching is to develop a comprehensive knowledge of musical content, such as note reading, rhythm, harmony, structural analysis and many other aspects of music and its components.

About Alina

Ask me: What is the music in my life? And I'll tell you - Music is everything! Having captured my heart since childhood, music still captivates me in its endless vistas. In my childhood I had a small model of a real piano and used to insert the sheets on the music stand and setting the dolls in front as an audience imagined myself giving concerts. Musical art was for me not just a fad - the music became my profession. Piano is amazing and is the perfect tool with which you can create a variety of images and indulge in any mood - with it you can share sadness and joy, talk about anything. I would be happy to introduce you to the multifaceted and vast expanses of the art of playing the piano.
Alina U an accomplished Ukrainian born pianist, teacher, chamber performer and accompanist. She has appeared on different performing venues in

Ukraine, Egypt, Spain, Morocco and US.
Alina’s desire to become an artist came at an early age. She performed songs and poetry at all family events, but her dream was to learn how to play the piano. She had a small model of a real piano and she used to insert the sheets on the music stand and setting the dolls in front as an audience imagined herself giving concerts.

She began her piano studies at the age of 7 at the Children Musical School No.1 in Sumy, Ukraine and gave her first solo recital ‘’Evening of Waltzes’’ at the age of 11. Alina continued her education with D. Bortnianskiy High School of Arts and Culture, Sumy, Ukraine, were she got an Associate degree in Music Art. Through education in National P.I. Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine in the class of distinguished pianist Lyudmila Martcevich. Ms. U. was performing at National Philharmonic of Ukraine, National P.I. Tchaikovsky Music Academy of Ukraine, Kiev’s House of Teachers and National Museum of Literature in Ukraine and many others. While studying in Ukraine Ms. U. was participating in numerous regional and national competitions and festivals.

Throughout her studies, Alina had the opportunity of working with a number of distinguished piano teachers such as Valentina Skoromnaya, Nelli Ldova, Aleksandr Ldov, Lyudmila Martcevich, Nancy Weems, Timothy Hester, and Brian Suit. Ms. U. also participated in master classes with Michail Stepanenko, Alla Zadirackaya, Iya Pavlova, Cristina Capparelli Gerling and others prominent musicians.
Ms. U. holds a Master’s degree in Applied Piano Performance from Moores School of Music, University of Houston. From Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine she holds a second Master’s degree, major in Piano Performance and minor in Piano Pedagogy, Chamber Ensemble, and Accompaniment.

Ms. U. has taught for over 17 years. Her goal is to enrich the lives of children and others by providing the understanding of music, fostering the enjoyment and inspiring musical imagination.
Ms. U. currently is a member of faculty in International Music Academy and St. Andrew School of Art.

The teaching methods focus on nurturing and developing the talents and musical abilities of each student by providing a well-rounded musical education. It incorporates principles and techniques of the Russian classical piano school, and includes repertoire from different styles of music, such as jazz, pop, folk, etc. More comprehensive instruction in music theory and ear-training, already integrated into piano lessons, is offered in separate classes as well.

*** Practice guidance and expectations***

- Lesson’s regular attendance is very important to ensure student success.

- In order to progress satisfactorily, daily quality practice is necessary and required. Students should practice each day for the length of their lesson.

-Detailed assignments for each piece will be written weekly in student’s notebook. To help your child develop self-discipline and good practice habits, schedule a regular time for practice each day. The practice session can be done all at once or divided into two or more sessions. Younger children especially need help with their practicing.

-The practice environment should be treated as a studying place free from interruptions (family, friends, TV, phone, tablet, computer, etc.). Parents support and cooperation is a must for a child's musical growth.

*** Parental Responsibilities***

- Encourage progress! Many small steps throughout the year yield great results. Important note: Sometime during the course of taking piano lessons, your child may say something like, “I don’t want to practice,” or “I’m too tired to go to piano lessons,” or “I don’t want to go- I want to play with my friends,” “I want to quit,” etc. Just be aware that your child’s interest will probably not be consistent; but to be successful, you will need to be consistent in your encouragement and commitment to music instruction. In most cases, simply acknowledge your child’s comments, but then go on with your normal routine just as you would if you heard the comment, “I don’t want to brush my teeth,” “I don’t want to stop playing with my toys,” or “I don’t want to go to bed.”

- Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend lessons at any time, but SHOULD NOT interfere in the process of the lesson no matter how well intended it may be.

- Please don’t hesitate to communicate with the teacher any questions or concerns you may have about your child’s progress. Communication with parents is vital to a child’s progress. Please feel free to chat with your instructor during the lesson time. Your instructor will generally allot a few minutes at the beginning of each lesson to communicate with the Parent. We ask that you please keep in mind that we are not available beyond your scheduled time, so as not to impede on the lesson time of the next student. If you would like to discuss anything beyond, please feel free to email your teacher, or call and leave a message.

***Make-up policy***
Notify the teacher at least 24 hours in advance if the student cannot attend the lesson. There are no refunds for missed lesson. Occasionally the teacher might have schedule conflict due to performing activity. If a teacher is absent, a make-up lesson will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time. Scheduled make-up lessons missed by the student will not be made up.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Brand new Kawai 5' 5" EG 30 baby grand piano.

We’ll address interpretation, various time periods, phrasing, and more.

About Anna

Hi there! I'm Anna, and I'm looking forward to meeting you. I've been offering private piano lessons since 2009 and offer foundations in music theory, technique, sight-reading and classic piano repertoire.

I begin most students in Faber method books, before branching into classical repertoire including selections from Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary time periods. My teaching style is flexible though, so I'll be happy to adapt to your individual liking and needs.

In 2012 I graduated from Thomas Edison State College with a degree in music and in 2017 I completed my Master's in Education from Post University. Today I enjoy teaching music to students ranging from six years old through adult.

I believe quality practice and motivation are key to success, and I'm looking forward to helping you succeed!

Anna is an extremely knowledgeable and skilled musician, which inspires her students to want to excel themselves! My 7year old son has been taking lessons from Anna for about 2 years. He is excited to go to his lesson each week! Although my son struggles with some dyslexia, Anna is extremely patient with him and makes him feel like he is valuable and capable. She has adjusted the method and curriculum to find something that works well for him. She carefully explains the lessons, makes my son feel so special, and inspires him to want to learn.

Private Classical Piano Teacher

For classical lessons, we will always start with scales and finger exercises, then move into level appropriate classical music in a variety of styles (Romantic, Baroque, even some 20th century). As always, the choices of pieces will be reflective of the student’s preference.

About Mandie

Hello, future pianists! My name is Mandie (or Miss Mandie, as my younger students call me). I have been playing the piano for twenty years, and I’ve been teaching since high school, over 12 years ago! I received my bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from Cornerstone University, but teaching has always been my first love. Teaching piano is so much fun for me; during the lessons we joke around and have so much fun, my students usually don’t even realize how much they are learning. For my youngest students, we dance and color and sing right alongside learning piano. I want my students to have a good foundation and knowledge of the piano, but I want them to enjoy the process. That being said, for those of you who are looking for a more traditional education, I have a very deep knowledge of classical piano and training so I will gladly put

away my crayons and teach that sort of lesson! If any of this sounds like something you or your child would resonate with, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Mandie is very accommodating and includes the parent in weekly conversations. She is very patient with my daughter who loves the piano but has ADHD. She has worked with my daughter for two years now and we just want her to enjoy music. Her recital duet was by far the best act! It was unique and captured my daughter love to be different!
Mandie’s ability to engage and not discourage my daughter makes my heart happy.
Mandie is very accommodating with scheduling and makeups. Whether you are interested in competition level piano or just the love of music Mandie is the right teacher for you.

"I took piano lessons from Adam. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to play the piano due to a serious shoulder injury. I took piano for a number of years
