Private Classical Piano Teacher
Music has been my passion since starting piano and violin lessons aged 7, and then training for years in performance, composition and theory, culminating in a master's degree from the Royal Academy of Music in London, England. My main concerns for students are enjoyment, developing musicality and technique, and learning to read music well. I teach music from different periods in history, including music being composed today. I work with children aged 5 and up, and adults. All levels of experience, including beginners, are welcome. I have taught in schools and privately in my home studio, where I have an upright acoustic Schulze Pollmann (German/Italian) piano and a Yamaha keyboard with weighted keys. Positive reinforcement is my teaching philosophy, and customer satisfaction my top priority! Check out my availability and let’s get started!
About Karen

I have been teaching piano for four years to students of all ages and abilities. I am a classically trained pianist with a Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance. I've studied music around the world with great teachers, and I'd love to share what I've learned with you!
Learning piano is a skill that will bring you both personal fulfillment as well as bring joy to those around you. I seek to provide a positive and enthusiastic environment in which you can discover this joy. Studying music also improves a person's intellect, work ethic, coordination, and self-esteem.
I strongly believe that the diversity of student experiences and goals should be met with a diversity of teaching methods and materials. No two students are identical, and cannot be taught effectively in the same way. To this end, I tailor the teaching process to each student based on his or her talents and needs. Furthermore, every student has different goals he or she hopes to achieve musically and personally ...

Music awakens the inner soul, whether you just listen or learn to make your own music. Research shows music can enhance your concentration, build your confidence, decrease anxiety and increase your ability to analyze situations.

I've never left a lesson feeling disappointed with my ability, something I experienced with other voice teachers. I feel confident in my voice and I owe that all to Melissa. For instance, during one lessons I was feeling a little off. Rather than getting frustrated she helped me focus on great ways to approach singing when not feeling your best. Dr. McCann rocks!
If you are looking for a voice teacher new or experienced I would definitely recommend Dr. McCann. Top notch lessons and overall awesome woman!
Her lessons are fun, effective, and very positive. All of which help the student learn more and get more out of the lesson. I highly recommend Dr. M. as a teacher to anyone (at any level) who is interested in becoming a better singer.
