Most recently, my drumming can be heard on multi-platinum selling recording artist Mark Slaughter's solo CD, "Reflections in a Rear View Mirror" which was released in March of this year. In additional to acoustic drumming, I have extensive experience with:
- midi programming (Toontrack Superior Drummer)
- drum set recording (Pro Tools, Cubase, Reaper)

About Mark
Most recently, Mark's drumming can be heard on multi-platinum selling recording artist Mark Slaughter's solo CD, 'Reflections in a Rear View Mirror.'

In addition to being a full-time working drummer, Mark is guiding veteran and up & coming drummers with their musical careers both privately and at Nevada Music Academy (March 2014 to present).

Mark is currently accepting serious-minded adult students for in-home or online lessons. Drum set students are required to have access to a drum set; snare drum students are required to have a snare drum or practice pad.

*****BACKGROUND*****

With inspiration from a music-infused household, Mark began playing drums at the age of eight, shortly after relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada. Within a few short years he was performing with various school bands (stage, jazz, orchestra, marching) and o
riginal rock bands formed with musicians from the local music scene.

Mark studied classical and rudimental snare drum performance at the Murray Spivack School for Snare Drum and funk, jazz, rock and Latin drumming under the tutelage of Irv Kluger, Chuck Silverman and Richie “Gajate” Garcia.

Mark’s first big break came in 1986 when he toured with the legendary Hollywood based hard-rock band Masque, which included the famous circuit clubs in Los Angeles supporting such artists as Warrant and Poison. Shortly after, Mark spent two years performing and recording with MTV favorites D.R. Starr and the M.D.’s, securing his place as one of Los Angeles’ “go to” drummers.

Drum lessons with Mark are informative, results-driven and loud at times! “Together, you and I will develop an ‘Individualized Learning Program’ designed just for you,” says Mark. “We’ll work at your level and at your pace – and we’ll have fun doing it!” Mark has been working successfully with students as young as 5 years of age. Beginning students will be playing basic drum beats during their first lesson and playing along to songs within several lessons. Experienced students will further develop reading chops, grooves, fills and rudiments.

To date, Mark has recorded and performed with numerous rock acts and is active in the local music scene. In addition, Mark is a two-time Las Vegas Rock Hall of Fame inductee.

Mark rocks!

Mark’s incredible skill as a drummer is only matched by his abilities as a teacher. In just a short time with Mark’s instruction, I have made vast improvements in my drumming. At my first lesson with Mark, he determined my skill level and what I sought to achieve with my lessons. Almost immediately, the fundamentals Mark showed me were translating into my drumming with my band. Mark has opened doors in my playing that I didn’t know existed. Mark is incredibly patient and really cares about ensuring I receive significant benefit from my lessons. Mark really goes out of his way to make sure I fully grasp everything he shows me. I would highly recommend Mark for anyone who wants to learn from a true master at his craft and from a teacher who takes pride in his students and his teaching. Thank you Mark!!

Mark Review

I have had many different types of music teachers through out my life and Mark is by far the best. He is very serious about helping his students do what they want to do. I had specific goals I wanted to accomplish. Mark took my goals seriously and did what he could to help me understand the techniques to be a good drummer. He broke things down in to little steps that helped me to practice on my own and figure specific drum patterns out, He gave me the tools to improve myself as a musician, Mark did not have to but he chose to put a lot of his own time in to teaching me what I wanted to learn He obviously cares about his students and takes them seriously. I highly recommend him to any future students

About Jason
I grew up in Minnesota and started playing guitar when I was 13. Self-taught for three years, I developed a passion and love for music. Upon turning 16, I expanded my knowledge studying with a local guitarist, a musical genius in my opinion, who made a huge impact on my playing. In the fall of 2007 I relocated to Los Angeles to attend Musicians Institute for guitar performance. I graduated in 2009

Over the course of the last 10 years+ I've been a part of many different live performing bands and currently work with my original bands Delphian and Smoke Hollow. A full song from Smoke Hollow can be heard in the photo/video section below off of our debut album. Delphian can be seen and heard featured on screen in the major motion picture Mike Judge film “Extract”. I study, perform and have vast knowledge in the styles of blues, classica
l, country, folk, jazz, metal and rock n' roll. Everyday as I continue to grow as a teacher and musician, so does my love for the guitar. I very much enjoy sharing my knowledge and seeing each of my students progress and grow as musicians.

We started off with a different drum instructor who turned out to be very unreliable. I asked take lessons to provide me with someone with good reviews. Someone who is punctual and reliable, that's when we met Jason. Jason is a super amazing instructor who has incredible patience. My son Nathan has never had any musical education before. After taking lessons with Jason for about three months he has a vast knowledge in playing drums and reading music. Jason utilizes his time very productively during lessons with no rush. He even goes to the extent to recommend and suggest products that will help Nathan improve. He is very humble, sweet and trustworthy. My family is glad that he came along. Thank you Jason from all of us.

For most of us drummers and rhythmatists we cannot go an hour without banging something or tapping or humming or moving.. if this describes you or your child then Im the guy who would be delighted to foster your development in your lifelong pursuit of the ultimate beat. I cannot give you God given talent , but I can take what talent god has given you and accentuate the positive. Work with you on fundamentals, technique, timbre, timing, tuning, sight reading..the list goes on..Its a lifelong pursuit..How long you choose to pursue it is up to you.. Im here to be your mentor.

Im pretty laid back with teaching discipline. Either you got it or you dont. I cannot push you or force you into practicing.. You must inherently love music and love rhythm and love drumming or percussion. If I am working with you on Kit drumming you will be starting out with the basics unless you have experience. I normally do an assessment to determine where you are at.. If I am teaching you hand percussion or African or Asian based drums then its strictly an aural based learning experience. No books just memorization. Kit drumming will require either you have your own Drum kit if I am coming to your house or of you travel to my studio I will have 1 drum kit to share , but you must have your own sticks. I do employ books in Drum Kit lessons. I will give you the names of the books based on what I think your level is and we can go from there..

Music is a complex yet beautiful language. Once you are immersed in the culture of the beat your journey thus begins. And journeys like these last a lifetime. I hope I can be a part of your experience.

Many Blessings

One Love

Students will start by learning basic patterns and fills that can be applied to many songs of their choosing. More advanced students will learn bass drum independence and advanced foot techniques.

About Kierstyn
Kierstyn E. St. John is a pianist, composer, arranger and improviser who possesses an impressive repertoire of more than 500 memorized songs in every genre from classical to jazz to contemporary/pop. Kierstyn is also a talented improviser-- which she can do for hours on end in both classical and jazz styles. Because she has studied piano for over eighteen years, she has developed extremely impressive technicality from studying everything from Rachmaninoff to Bill Evans to Dream Theater. Furthermore, her performance experience has given her an innate talent of programming. She knows exactly which songs to choose for a certain gig; if you give her a genre, she can make a setlist that exactly suits the needs of your arrangement.

She has performed extensively in venues such as the Wigwam Resort, and the Ground Controls in Goodyear and in V
errado. She has played hundreds of events including weddings, memorials, private parties, festivals, and church fairs; Kierstyn was also the accompanist for all three choirs at her high school. She was the principal pianist for Northminster Presbyterian Church for four years and rocked the house as the pianist in the ASU Latin Jazz Combo for two.

Kierstyn just graduated summa cum laude with Bachelor's of Music in Composition at Arizona State University. She has studied with James DeMars, Rodney Rogers, and Kotoka Suzuki. Since attending college, she has been commissioned by Ironwood and Imagine Prep high schools, The ASU Barrett Choir, The Phoenix Art Museum, The ASU Art Museum, and Voices for the Voiceless. In 2014, she won the Four Seasons Women's Composers Competition, and her string quintet "The Monarch" was performed in September by their professional orchestra and her score for the play “Poseidon's Regret” received a nomination for a 2016 ariZoni Award!

About Stephen
Why should you take lessons from me?
There are some musicians who teach only as a way to make ends meet and there are those who are passionate about education in general. There are some music teachers who will show you how to play songs and call it a day. That's giving the hungry a fish. I prefer to teach the hungry how to catch fish. Why you use a certain rod, line, lure, how to find fish, what fish are edible, how to drive a boat, etc...In musical terms this translates to things such as why you hold an instrument a certain way, the logic behind finger positions, how to construct chords/scales then use them, how to count musically and why, etc...I teach how to think musically and creatively on and off of the page and have a vested interest in the progress of my students.

Students who take lessons with me will be on a structured curriculum that they can use to help build their drumming skills, however the materials put a major emphasis on teaching students how to write their own grooves, fills, and more. There are fundamentals that are extremely important and take time and hard work to learn, but it is also important to learn how to express yourself as an artist with your instrument. Music is an art form of course. I make my best effort to get the fundamentals and basics down for my students in an easily comprehendible manner, but I also make a great effort to try and tie my lessons to each individual drummer. Everyone has a different voice, everyone has different needs in learning.

About Zachary
Hello,

My name is Zachary Bauer and I am currently accepting new students for drum lessons, all levels and ages. No one is ever too young or old to learn the drums, just bring a positive hard working attitude!

A little about me; I am 25 years old, a full time professional drummer, and a student studying under renowed Drummer Larry London (Turner, Oregon : "JFK", "Tyranny of Hours"). I now have a space to offer lessons in my home studio and am eager to put it to good use!

Drums are my life. I am currently working with my original band "Anomie" along with a few other side projects such as drum tracking CD's and an individual artists' webpage. I graduated from Oregon State with a degree in Sociology and the intent to go to Graduate School to pursue teaching, but my passion of drums and the desire to spread happiness through music committ
ed me full time to my drumset 2 years ago.

I have teaching materials for students and a full lesson plan that is the same I have learned my basic techniques and grooves from, which progressively becomes more difficult and adds ornamental pieces one by one to your personal drummers tool kit. Though it is the same system I was taught from, I back it 100% and put some of my own ideas with it as well. I try to pertain each lesson to each individuals specific learning interests; every drummer is different.

My students will focus on:

-Proper technique (learning how to make the kit work for you, movement efficiency, stick grip, foot technique, posture, etc.).

-All different styles of music, their variations, and their similarities throughout genres.

-How to read sheet music and use a system created to learn how to write your own personal grooves, and fills, and solos.

-Rudiments in both single surface and full drum set form.

-Sticking exercises.

-Hi-hat steppings and openings.

-Tom grooves and fills.

-And of course how to have fun and express yourself musically in whichever way they desire.

Currently I am offering lessons at my home in my studio, but am also willing to travel to certain students in the area if they have a drum set at home that is preferred. My priority is my students, so we can always figure out a time that works for both of us.

Keep practicing everyone!

Drummer with nearly 20 years experience playing in rock bands as well as in worship settings. Lessons begin with a focus on fundamentals of drumming (drum set) but can expand into what the student specifically wants to learn. We will also focus on the role of the drummer within a musical group and learn how to navigate those intricacies. Beginner and intermediate students preferred but all ages are welcome, its never too late to learn how to drum!

About Joel
I have been playing the drums for nearly 20 years, in which most of my experience is hands-on, playing in contemporary church worship teams and regional Christian rock bands with occasional teaching mixed in. Personally, my favorite style of music to play is rock/alternative but I also favor acoustic/folk styles, funky grooves, Latino rhythms, and the occasional metal, blues, or jazz beats.

No matter the musical style, playing with confidence, feeling the song, and having an awareness of other musicians can escalate you from a "good" drummer to a "great!" one; and this is what I teach my students. They will learn the fundamentals of stick position, rotary movements, basic drum hits and musical notation, as well as how to play on beat (with a "click"). These skills will enable the student to learn any style of music and increase their abi
lity to play the role of the drummer in virtually any band or musical group.

For example, the bands I have played in over the years have opened for multiple National acts like Red, Disciple, Project 86, and Decyfer Down and have played festivals and tours like Cornerstone Festival, Unity Festival, and Winter Jam, opening for Mercy Me, Jars of Clay, and Hawk Nelson. I truly believe that if you know your craft and have confidence in yourself, the sky is the limit for what you can do.

Currently, I play regularly at my local church and do worship nights and events in my area. I would be honored and pleased to work with you and help you become a great drummer!

I’ve had the privilege of playing guitar, with Joel as the drummer, in various bands. Hands down the best drummer I’ve ever played with. Joel is extremely attentive to what the rest of the band is doing which is a skill that so many drummers are missing. And he’s always on with that click track! Joel could always create whatever sounding fills I asked for, and then some. But ALWAYS tasteful. A very gifted musician.

Joel is also a man of integrity and an all around fun guy! One of my best friends on this earth!
