Learning drums is extremely fun and satisfying! It involves the entire body and the mind, challenging in many different ways and extremely rewarding.

While it can be demanding to learn an instrument, it can be as easy as you want it to be. Our lessons can be designed to fit your personal goal. In the lessons we will play songs, study technique and reading and learn different genres of music - all while having fun!

I have been teaching for over 10 years, with experience in all levels (Beginner to Advanced) and in every age group. I am very passionate about teaching music, I believe it has the power to change lives, and also helps with just putting a smile on your face :)

I had a great experience with Noam. Each lesson had a structure as we explored various elements in each lesson covering a lot of ground. Noam is very knowledgeable, patient and encouraging. Noam has the ability to take a complex concept and break it down until you grasp it completely. Each lesson was productive and enjoyable. Thank you Noam!

Noam is an excellent drum tutor!

He is so knowledgeable about the drums and passionate about sharing that knowledge. His lessons are well structured to make the most of the time available to practice existing skills and learn new techniques, as well as being fun!

He takes the time to really focus on your existing technique in order to iron out any bad habits and he breaks down new techniques in a simple and easy to learn manner.

Highly recommended!

I believe that each person is drawn to the drums for different reasons; some have dreams of performing in stadiums for thousands of people, others simply want to be able to play along to their favorite records in the garage on a Sunday afternoon. Whatever your goals are, my goal as a teacher is to always keep sight of your initial motivations for drumming, craft an individual plan to help you get there, and to have some fun along the way! (All styles & levels welcome)

It has been a pleasure to begin to learn to play the drums with Zach. He has made the lessons immensely enjoyable and given me the time and space to master one element of drumming before on to another.

Zach is not only a kick-ass drummer, he’s a great teacher too. I never thought of myself as musically inclined but after six months of lessons with Zach I have changed my tune. Thanks to Zach’s patience, kindness and skill, I’m actually learning how to play the drums at age 45! I look forward to my lessons every week and highly recommend Zach to aspiring drummers of any age.
Luis
Zach has been my drum instructor for a little over a year now, and after stopping playing for several years beforehand I foun Zach, I thank him helping he rebuild my passion for rocking out! He never fails to take his time with me and break down certain beats, songs, etc, whenever I’m having trouble getting the grasp of things. He makes his classes very personal and it’s clear how much he cares for how I perform and how much I understand what I’m doing

My 9-year-old son, Luke, who is on the spectrum (PDD-NOS) studied with David for the better part of a year and the experience was terrific. In addition to being extremely communicative and reliable, David was kind and patient. David kept Luke focused and entertained while also inviting him to think about rhythm in ways that made sense to Luke's brain. We happily traveled from Inwood to "Downtown Brooklyn" for lessons because the level of instruction was that good and, I think, Luke's progress demonstrates that. Luke was bitten by the hockey bug, so we are taking a break from percussion right now, but I wouldn't hesitate to return to David's studio should time allow in the future.

Simply put, Rich MacDonald is a remarkable drum teacher. Educated at Berklee, he is a veteran working drummer who knows, plays and can teach any style of music. His patience and adaptability to specific student needs is the perfect persona for teaching young beginners. For intermediates, he is a calm, steady guide to correcting mistakes and quirks that get in the way of effective technique. Even for experienced drummers, he is an incredible resource for expanding capabilities and mastering unfamiliar styles. His charts, when needed, are professional models of clarity.

With a long background in music, but not drums, I studied with Rich for four years and would be still were it not for unrelated physical issues.

There's no one I could recommend more highly, as a drum teacher...as a person. Studying with Rich is not only drum education, it's enjoyable.
Aravind
Throughout my many years of lessons, Rich had truly been a great support and instructor for drum lessons. He makes sure that progress is accomplished and successfully implements various types of rhythms, techniques, beats, styles, and songs into the curriculum. All in all, I appreciate all that he is taught me and look forward to learning more from him.
Afshin
My daughter started learning drums from Rich 6 years ago. We started with one on one lessons then switched to live online lessons due to COVID. My daughter has enjoyed learning drums and likes to continue to expand on her skills. Rich has been great and key to my daughters drum education. He is a very effective drum educator. He is very knowledgeable and is able to teach the student at their own pace. My daughter is now participating in School band activities. She is way overqualified for what the band teacher has her do and that is due to what Rich has taught her. I would highly recommend Rich as a drum educator for anyone and any level.

The drums are a vibrant and energetic instrument that can be enjoyed by players of all ages. Whether you are a complete beginner, or are playing at an intermediate or advanced level, our teachers can help you reach the next stage with private drum lessons in NYC!

In your drum lessons, you will learn how to read music, how time signatures work and how to hold your rhythm. You will also be instructed in the best drumming techniques, correct posture and how to hold drumsticks. If you’re interested in learning a specific genre or style, our instructors will customize the lesson plans to cater to your interests.

Without professional instruction, it is impossible to ensure that you are playing with good technique. Beginners may struggle to learn the correct way to play the drums when learning alone, and can quickly develop bad habits. Intermediate and advanced players are missing out on a wealth of knowledge when they choose to learn without a qualified instructor. A private teacher, however, can point out issues you never knew were a problem.

All of our instructors are screened to ensure your safety and the quality of your lessons. What’s more, you’re protected by our 100% Money Back Guarantee, so you can take your first lesson at no risk!

New York City is one of the most important places in the world for music, being that it was central to the birth of hip hop, salsa music, disco, Latin freestyle and punk rock. It’s also home to hugely-popular music magazines Spin and Rolling Stone, and several important venues, such as Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall. Taking drum lessons in NYC will give you the chance to be a part of this culture, and who knows - maybe you’ll be the next to make it big in the New York City music scene!
