My name is Robin Rapsys and as a drummer, I have booked, performed, and toured in small jazz combos, rock groups, and metal bands. I have also recorded and engineered drums and percussion for rock bands, film & TV, and jazz combos. Combine all that experience with years of teaching private and group lessons at a music academy and you will find a wide range of topics to learn about within the entire music industry. I teach out of my home recording studio in Prior Lake, MN where I record tracks on a regular basis. This gives my students an opportunity to get recording experience during their lesson.

About Robin

I offer drum lessons for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students supported by real-life experience in teaching at a music academy, touring and performing in bands, recording at my home studio, writing and reading music, advanced styles, etc.

The first week is awesome. I had taken a class at a college for a quarter. I did very well and learned a lot. With that, John knew right where to start with me. Looking forward to getting the best sound I can. Thanks, John.

On time, very professional, amazing skill-set and very patient with my child. We feel fortunate to have Mark as an instructor.

Mark rocks!

Mark’s incredible skill as a drummer is only matched by his abilities as a teacher. In just a short time with Mark’s instruction, I have made vast improvements in my drumming. At my first lesson with Mark, he determined my skill level and what I sought to achieve with my lessons. Almost immediately, the fundamentals Mark showed me were translating into my drumming with my band. Mark has opened doors in my playing that I didn’t know existed. Mark is incredibly patient and really cares about ensuring I receive significant benefit from my lessons. Mark really goes out of his way to make sure I fully grasp everything he shows me. I would highly recommend Mark for anyone who wants to learn from a true master at his craft and from a teacher who takes pride in his students and his teaching. Thank you Mark!!

Mark Review

I have had many different types of music teachers through out my life and Mark is by far the best. He is very serious about helping his students do what they want to do. I had specific goals I wanted to accomplish. Mark took my goals seriously and did what he could to help me understand the techniques to be a good drummer. He broke things down in to little steps that helped me to practice on my own and figure specific drum patterns out, He gave me the tools to improve myself as a musician, Mark did not have to but he chose to put a lot of his own time in to teaching me what I wanted to learn He obviously cares about his students and takes them seriously. I highly recommend him to any future students

"Mike was really the best instructor I could have asked for. Knowledgeable, patient, and best of all, chill when he needed to be. I was just picking up the drums for a high school band I was in at the time, and he was more than willing to help me learn whatever dumb song me or my band had decided sounded cool at the time. At the same time, he showed me a lot of really excellent practice techniques, directed me to some solid literature for different rhythms to work on, and would sit with me through a whole hour of my relentless mistakes like it was nothing. More than a good instructor, he's a really cool guy! He never missed a beat!"

"Thor really knows what he’s talking about! He has a solid footing in rock, jazz, Latin, and many other settings and his compositional skills and musicianship really back up his expertise as a drummer. I took lessons from Thor for three years while I was in high school and now I study jazz drums at Elmhurst College. Looking back, Thor was definitely my favorite teacher. He brings an enthusiasm and friendly demeanor to each and every lesson and I couldn’t think of a better teacher for a beginner/intermediate drummer."

The Minneapolis Drum Scene

By John S. - Minneapolis Drums Teacher

Minneapolis boasts a vibrant music scene featuring dozens of lively venues, from underground jazz clubs and hip music cafes to the legendary First Avenue nightclub. Yet for drummers, Minneapolis is even more reputable because of its growing community of skilled and passionate drummers. On any given night, many talented drummers and musicians can be heard all around the city. Whether it’s the energetic, old-school bop playing of jazz great Phil Hey or the genre-bending rhythmic experiments of Dave King, great local drummers are constantly putting forth awe-inspiring performances night after night. Aspiring musicians taking drum lessons in Minneapolis can watch these performances and find motivation for their continued growth and development as drummers.

Local drummers are an important influence not only in the realm of performing, but also as teachers and friends. Growing up in the Twin Cities, I’ve been able to hone my chops with truly inspirational drumming mentors (Steve Roehm, Phil Hey, Dave Hagedorn) while hearing awesome stories and making great friends along the way. And now that I teach drum lessons in Minneapolis, I have the opportunity to inspire students and share the knowledge that I have learned along the way.

In addition to all of the music venues in Minneapolis, the nearby Ellis Drum Shops offer another fantastic avenue for bringing together the local drumming community. The drum shops frequently host clinics from drumming legends and massive product giveaways, while also providing an environment for drummers to learn and share ideas with one another. If you are taking drum lessons in Minneapolis then you will no doubt benefit from the plethora of resources available here. No matter the time or place, Minneapolis continues to provide the perfect environment for countless local drummers to learn, grow, and find inspiration.
