I feel ear training is very important to learning about music. It brings it all together and you understand music after you train your ear.
Hello, my name is Ben and GUITAR IS MY BUSINESS...AND MY BUSINESS IS GOOD so please consider me. I've been playing guitar for over 18 years and have been in playing bands for 12 years. Recently after the band broke up, I decided to further my education and went to Musicians Institute in Hollywood California. There I was taught by the best guitar players in the world. Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert, Scott Henderson, Tommy Emmanuel and Johnny Hiland were just a few of the great players who gave clinics there. I received a degree in Guitar Performance and the knowledge I received there made me UNDERSTAND the mystery that is the guitar.
I can teach Rock/Metal, Country (lead and rhythm), Blues, Alternative, Acoustic, Classical, Chord Melody, Melodic Soloing, Twang, Chords, Scales, Modes, Many different lead and rhythm techniques a
nd more importantly any song you want to go over.
I feel learning to play your favorite songs is the most important and the most fun about guitar playing. After playing songs, some of the information given (scales, chords, theory, ear-training) starts to make some since and you begin to slowly figure the guitar out.
Theory and Ear-training I feel are very important to learn when trying to understand music. It just gives you a basic mathematical way of understanding how music works. It can be very frustrating to learn and takes some time to sink in so if you don't want to learn it then that is great. Ear-training is cool because when you start to understand it you can actually hear music and not just listen to it. You can listen to a chord progression on the radio and go home and play it and also improvise over it.
I encourage BEGINNERS through EXPERT to at least hear what I have to say. I have A LOT of information to give about the guitar. I played for ten years made 2 demo CDs, one full length album, another demo specifically for Metal Blade Records, was in a big cover band and so I thought I knew it all and was a great guitar player. Then I went to GUITAR SCHOOL in Hollywood and reality hit me. I wasn't as good as I thought. When you hear the best guitar players in the world everyday for a year and a half like I did at Musicians Institute it makes you want to be better and practice, practice, practice. I learned everything there about guitar and music and I know the Right way to teach.
Please consider me for your guitar teacher I will make it fun and a good learning experience as well.
Thank you, Ben

*** Lesson Details *** I am a very laid back instructor, though the classes are very well structured.
Usually, we progress with a chosen curriculum according to the student's or parent's vision and initial overview during the 1st few classes. However, all curriculums are supplemented to enhance student performance and comprehension. Our supplemental material is used to go swifter for material that you grasp well and understand, and slower with more repetition for that that you need more practice, without being monotonous. It is also used to provide appropriate but exciting reinforcement of all material to ensure that material is retained.
We are forever updating material and also incorporate games and enhanced activities to keep lessons interesting and refreshing as well!
I also have experience in teaching autistic, ADD, ADHD and those with varying degrees of brain damage.

The class was wonderful, my daughter loved it. She was so excited to get home to practice. I am so happy We found Barbara.
October 7, 2018
Ms. Barbara had a very positive attitude and worked well with my son. I would definitely recommend her if you need someone who gives good advice on song choices that match the singing style of the student.
I can teach a student to hone and perfect their ear as a supplement to developing their guitar studies.
My name is Perry and I am a professional classical, flamenco and electric guitarist performing and recording in the Dallas area. I studied with Robert Guthrie at SMU for many years, as well as Brad McLemore of "Soul Food Cafe" and professional jazz musician Chuck Pangburn at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
I am familiar with all styles of guitar from fingerpicking to Bebop/Swing. I teach using a foundation in classical/flamenco style and technique. I have found that for my own career as a recording artist in both the classical, acoustic and electric guitar fields that the classical/flamenco styles are the most useful for developing and training the hands to become a consummate professional.
I teach beginner to advanced students of any age. I also can provide pro and amateur electric g
uitarists an in-depth study of correct hand postures and left-hand/right-hand technique which can help to refine their overall technique and stylistic approach. I can also advise professional electric guitarists on their electronics, effects pedals, and amplifiers to achieve their own individual sound. I also teach Bass, and reading the Bass clef.
My teaching specialties include: Solfeggio, Sight Reading, Music Theory, Scales and Modes, Left and Right Hand Technique, Blues Progressions, Jazz Standards the Classical Repertoire, Flamenco styles, techniques and repertoire, DADGAD and other alternate tunings, and the works of Sor, Giuliani, and Carcassi, Brouwer, Aguado, Villa-Lobos, Sabicas, Paco de Lucia, Pat Martino, John Fahey, and Davey Graham.
I have an in-depth knowledge of the stylistic approaches and techniques of such guitarists as Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Randy Rhoads, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew to name a few, and I can teach you the components they use to build their signature licks.
As a rule I only transcribe to give the students examples for lessons. I intend for all of my students to grow as musicians, so my lessons do not consist solely of transcribed solos and riffs.
I have a vast library of music, so I can draw from my own resources to teach you, or from a method of your choosing.
My schedule has a few openings right now. I do teach outside of my stated teaching radius, but ONLY at the 60 minute rate.
I teach people of all ages, from children to adults. I believe everyone is on an even keel, if they are willing and eager to learn.
*** Lesson Details *** Emphasis on classical posture and technique. Emphasis on sight-reading. All students learn to play basic blues and jam Technique varies depending on the particular style the student wishes to learn.
*** Travel Equipment *** I can provide a limited number of learning materials such as exercises, listening or practicing CD on occasion. However, I feel that it is the student's responsibility to provide their own guitars, and the bulk of their own learning materials and necessary electronic equipment. This can include footstools, music stands, method books, amps, cables, pedals, etc.
*** Specialties *** I've been playing guitar for 25 years, and this has given me the time to study, perform, and perfect many styles of guitar playing.
I studied classical and flamenco guitar with Robert Guthrie for 4 years before and after my studies in the SMU program. I've also played in jazz and rock ensembles since the age of 14. I studied with Chuck Pangburn, pro jazz cat, and Brad McLemore, an indie rock songwriter, early on in my studies as an adolescent.
I encourage most students to learn to play on a classical or nylon-string guitar early on in order to develop proper technique, posture, sensitivity, and sensibility. I also encourage all students to learn to sight-read at a very early point in their studies. Once, this hurdle is cleared many other challenges are easily surpassed.
Presently, I am developing a new method which incorporates solfeggio, blues and popular music forms, and improvisational playing. I also am exploring the vanguard of new guitar technology such as the Vo-96, analog effects, and various guitar synthesizers.
I try to introduce an understanding of music theory early on so that students develop a full comprehension of not only the written language of music, but also, the sonic language of music.
Great personality and knowledge of music, really makes the lessons very personalized, fun and interesting. Definitely a good choice!!

Perry takes the time to explain flamenco and related styles deeply and thoroughly. He also provides detailed micro-scale feedback on hand/arm placement, orientation, range and which muscle groups to engage. But more than the technical, he has an awesome vibe and makes learning guitar quite an enjoyable experience.

Excellent knowledge, presentation and communication. He taught at the right level for me. He's a great teacher.
April 8, 2017
My daughter has really enjoyed her first lesson . Andrew has been very flexible with our schedule to meet my daughter's need. She's going to have the final singing on next month. He will help her to get through. I highly recommend him as a great teacher.
Ear training is paramount when learning to play music. It is the tool that connects the ideas in our head to the instrument itself - allowing you to express yourself more accurately.
In comparison... Ear training is equivalent to hearing the words in your head the split second before you say them - allowing you to say the exact words you mean to say.
I am a 29 year old, energetic teacher of almost any instrument, with my main instrument being trumpet. I have my masters in jazz studies from The University of North Texas, near Dallas Texas. I also have been teaching since 2008!
As a performing musician in the DFW area my goal is to help students understand how music works, develop great practice techniques, and create a hobby or profession that will last a lifetime.
*** Lesson Details *** Each lesson is an hour long consisting of several different parts to help students to understand music from several different view points. - First we engage in some guided listening to broaden our perspective of music and learn about the history of music. - Second we work on fundamentals that help us to play music. This is like learning the alphabet before you learn to spell. We don't ski
mp on this part! - Third we work our mind from a theoretical approach to understand the math behind how music works. - Finally we spend the last third of the lesson applying all of this knowledge to a solo, song, or lesson book.
I aim to give you the tools to study the music you want to study!
*** Equipment *** Students should have a stand and their instrument for our first lesson. After the first lesson we will pick a book, song, or solo based on your level. If you need help, I can help you to find an affordable quality instrument.
*** Specialties *** Jazz Improvisation/Performance Classical Trumpet Cover Band (Trumpet) Beginner Trumpet or Piano Theory at all levels. Solo Music Preparation Audition Prep. How to make a band. Music Management (how to manage a band). How to get a gig (any age level).
My son started taking lessons a year ago, Nick used his strengths to help him learn. He has become inspired with the trumpet, and started to play a little every day.
July 8, 2019
I am taking online lessons with Nick, and he has helped me to understand what it is to be a musician. Before I started taking lessons, if someone asked me to play something, I was not able to do it without getting a sheet of music out and struggling A LOT. Now I am starting to be able to play the music I want to play, both by ear and reading. He teaches much more than just playing band music. I wish I could take more than a few lessons this summer.
July 6, 2019
I have a 8 year old daughter and 10 year old son both have been learning Piano for the last 2 years. Nick takes a holistic approach in teaching piano as opposed to sticking with the book. It includes creating a passion about listening different music, learning scales and chords outside of the book. I have recommended Nick to all my friends
Students will learn how to distinguish notes, rhythms and chords from music they hear. Students will be able to write what they hear and/or perform what they hear.
As far back as I can remember I have always enjoyed performing music. I can remember during my elementary school years how I would play drums during church service. Some days I would sneak in my dad's closet to play his saxophone. I began learning how to play saxophone in middle school and by the time I was in high school I was learning piano, performing jazz, and composing music. I went on to get a Bachelor of Music at the University of North Texas. I have been performing professionally for over 18 years. I also have taught band for 11 years in Dallas ISD. I enjoy teaching and mentoring other up and coming musicians. It's a joy to see another world open up to them through music. Through my warm and positive personality and experience as a certified music teacher and music performer, I understand how to meet the social and education
al needs of each music student. I am well versed at solving problems and helping students thrive and reach their full potential. I think that I do this best by personalizing the instruction experience for each unique situation. I love to encourage students and help them discover the music in them.
*** Lesson Details *** Like me, students can expect to enjoy the process. Students will discover that I am very encouraging during lessons. I keep everything upbeat and positive. I will help you come up with goals musically. I am very patient, all while coaching you so that you get positive results.
*** Studio Equipment *** Upright Baldwin piano, electronic keyboard 88 keys, music stands, sitting area for parent, CD/iPod stereo.
*** Specialties *** Jazz, Gospel, Pop, Classical, Various styles
A full-time operatic performer and music educator, Maureen Kelly has been teaching voice and piano lessons since 2009. She currently runs her own private studio, in addition to traveling to students' homes to teach lessons. She happily teaches anyone who has an interest and willingness to learn, regardless of experience.
Ms. Kelly received a Master of Music from the University of Maryland in 2017 with an emphasis in Opera Performance. In teaching, her goal is to find the optimal method for each individual student that will encourage them to grow and improve. She firmly believes that anyone who is willing to dedicate the time and effort to learning a new instrument is capable of doing so, and looks forward to helping new students achieve their goals.
Lessons are scheduled to best accommodate the student's schedule, and as such can be
at a regular day/time or determined on a weekly basis. Please be aware that Ms. Kelly is an opera singer who periodically travels for performances. As such, she may need to reschedule lessons from time to time, but will always give as much advance notice as possible.
Very lovely lady and very patient with me. I’m 64 years young and i’m trying to recapture those lessons I took in my teens.
August 24, 2019
I started off as an absolute beginner at singing and made a lot progress under Maureen's guidance. She is a very patient and knowledgeable teacher who prioritized proper support and healthy technique. I would strongly recommend taking lessons with her to anyone seeking to improve their singing.
June 11, 2019
Maureen is a fantastic teacher for anyone looking to improve their singing skills. I came in with no background in music, and she was very capable in assessing my level and getting me started on exercises and practices to improve my vocal control, posture, and more. She is very friendly and patient, and is always excited to practice and improve. I would definitely recommend Maureen for beginners and beyond who are looking to improve their singing.
"I am 3 lessons in, and I am very satisfied with the pace we are taking the lessons and the advice I am receiving for my music career. I like to cover a l
ot of material in lessons and in homework and we are keeping busy as I like. If you're serious about music, you will probably like Troy as your instructor."
"I have known Carlos for more than 30 years. He’s always been a real mentor, and a leader for all his students. Carlos is an Innovator and creator of c
utting edge learning programs, he has taught thousands of successful students and has many years of experience as a music educator."
"Francesca is an amazing teacher and support of your voice. She encourages you to find your voice, and embrace it's natural capabilities. She super dedicat
ed to her career, and has a lot of students, but always take her time with you. I couldn't be more satisfied with my progress in such a short time. I highly recommend Francesca!"
"Rachel is an extremely wonderful teacher and vocalist. I mainly sing Musical Theatre but have a background in Classical. When I feel like I'm beginning to
develop unhealthy singing habits, I usually go back to my classical roots. So finding a teacher with experience in both Musical Theatre and Classical voice is extremely important to me. Rachel really focuses on the technique and finds a way to describe it and apply it in terms her students understand. I highly recommend her whether you have a background Musical Theatre, Classical, both, or more. She'll get you singing with a healthy voice in no time!"
"Krisztina is a wonderful musician and teacher! She is very patient and a wonderful asset to any musician looking to better themselves."
"If you are aurally challenged when it comes to intervals and harmonic progressions, I definitely recommend tutoring. Michelle was very patient during our
lessons and had different tips on how to identify certain progressions, which I appreciated. We also worked on complex rhythms together. It was actually really fun. She's very kind, resourceful, and an excellent tutor."
"Edwin is very knowledgeable about music. He is a very adaptive to players of all skill sets and have guided me though the basics when I was once a beginne
r. He provides insight to the difficult questions that I come across over the years of playing guitar. He especially helped me understand music in a much larger scale. Overall, he is a well rounded teacher that is patient and supportive with his students."
"I needed help singing in the church choir. Rebekah was amazing and personally took the time to teach me and work with me to help me to be able to sing
in the choir on Christmas Eve. She was very patient and never criticized, but gently taught me to sing various styles of notes. I'm not a musical person, so I can't really get the terminology right, but she helped me to be able to located the different notes in the hymnal as I was singing. On Christmas Eve, with Rebekah's lessons, I accomplished what we had set out to do and was able to sing in the Christmas Eve service.
I've also known Rebekah personally for a long time now. She is full of personality and is exciting to be around. She is very professional and kind to all of her students. She is patient, considerate, and her students thrive under her supervision. I would highly recommend anyone to chose Rebekah as their personal instructor and not only for themselves, but for their children as well."
"Wes has been helping me learn by ear and its really making me enjoy music all over again!!!"
