Among the many annoyances in the life of a musician are those times when we come across one of those fortunate few who can listen to a song on the radio and then sit down and play it … while you’re standing there behind them with your two hands inches from their throat, seething in envy.
What a gift, to have ears such as theirs! For those with “perfect pitch” it truly is a blessing which they were, quite literally, born with. But for most of us, playing by ear is simply a skill, and, like all skills, it can be learned. And it should. Your caliber and utility as a player increase dramatically when you can pick up tunes on the spot. And you will save a fortune on all the sheet music that you’ll no longer need to buy!
I hold a B.M. from Berklee College of Music, and have over thirty years' experience teaching students -- from beginner to pro -- how to learn both melodies and/or chord progressions by ear. Try if for yourself and discover the many benefits of having a killer pair of ears!

I studied ear training for many years and have developed a solid technique that I train all my students in. All of them have developed with that technique!

The techniques that I employ will allow the singer more ease of vocal production and therefore an enhanced quality of sound. This leads to an Improvement in both tone and pitch.
About Timothy
Timothy, tenor, hails from San Antonio, Texas. Most recently, he was praised by the Houston Chronicle for his depiction of Nadir in Les Pêcheurs de Perles at Opera in the Heights. Soon after that he was engaged to sing for the San Antonio Opera as Ralph Rackstraw in H.M.S Pinafore. In the fall of 2

I am an experienced composer and performer so I was looking for someone who would focus in on the technical aspects of singing, with an emphasis on proper breathing, and could help me expand the possibilities of my voice and Timothy gave me all the answers and more. Any issue I had, he had a way to explain it that instantly clicked and he was always probing my experience and asking good questions to make sure I was grasping the concepts so I'd be able to practice effectively on my own.
I've had a lot of lessons with a lot of different teachers privately and through university and I am not being hyperbolic when I say that Timothy is one of the best, most insightful, generous teachers that I have ever had the pleasure to work with. I hope I have the opportunity to work with him again one day and continue my journey with my voice, which is a markedly better joinery thanks to Timothy.

Ear training is a vital step for the serious musician who's interested in improving their composing and advising their performance interpretation. There are many methods and I will take my students through whichever is most appropriate for their goals.

Experienced voice teacher of over 20 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of technique including breathing and exercises designed to improve strength, power, and range while decreasing tension in the jaw, face, and throat. I specialize in teaching students to relax and to not sing from the throat and chest. For non-singers I can focus solely on ear training and pitch matching which is often necessary for auditions and performing on other instruments as well as voice.
About Laurelanne
I graduated from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, GA with a BA in Music Education, voice principal. During my years in public schools I taught a variety of age ranges and subjects including kindergarten general music, beginning band, high school chorus, and remedial middle sch
