I've been playing classical guitar for 7 years & have performed hundreds of classical pieces for different events, ranging from concert halls to dinner parties to receptions for big businesses.

About Alex
Hey, my name is Alex. I'm a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, keyboards, voice, drums, flute, etc.), composer, performer, recording artist, arranger/orchestrator/transcriber, recording engineer/producer & music educator.

I graduated from the University of St. Thomas "Cum Laude" in 2011 with a Bachelor's Degree in Guitar Performance, with minors in Music Production & Composition. While attending St. Thomas I served as the Music Theory tutor, as well as the live sound/stage/light/recording technician for student & faculty recitals.

I have been playing professionally & teaching for over a decade. My passion for music is something that I love to share with anyone else who feels inclined to make music. My goal is to share the skills & knowledge I've acquired throughout my experiences with those willing to learn & dedicate themselves
to the craft of making music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am experienced in most major genres of music: classical, jazz, blues, rock, funk, folk, metal, acoustic fingerstyle/slap, instrumental rock, "shred," pop, world music, electronica, etc. & feel comfortable conveying the techniques, approaches & idioms to a student by breaking them down into digestible components, while making these new ideas relatable to material they are already familiar with.

In the end, I want the student to learn what they're most interested in learning. I'm here to answer any questions they may have & with my experiences, I feel confident that I will be able to either answer these questions or point them in the right direction. Some topics covered:

Scales/modes
Ear training
Instrument-specific techniques (ie bending, tapping, sweep picking, etc.)
Songwriting & Composition
Arranging & Orchestrating
Sight-reading
Improvisation
Chordal theory & how to read charts
Practice routines & approaches
Instrument maintenance
Instrument-based gear (guitars, amplifiers, effects, picks, slides, capos, etc.)

The student will learn at the pace they set for themselves & can only get out of it the amount of effort they put forth. I expect my students to practice on a regular basis (however brief each session may be). Consistency is key for progress to be made, & if they hold up their end of the bargain, the payoffs will be quite substantial!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Practice amplifier, tuner, music stand(s), guitar picks & cables.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide guitar neck paper. I expect the students to have their own instrument & any materials they may need to achieve the goals they've set for themselves (such as a weekly notebook).

*** Specialties ***
Progressive rock, classic rock, blues, jazz, funk, disco, classical, acoustic fingerstyle/slap, flamenco guitar; music theory, sight-reading, composition, songwriting, film scoring, music production.

I took beginner's guitar lessons with Alex. He took into account what my playing goals were, stylewise and whatnot. He's super knowledgeable on musical subjects besides just guitar. I've come away feeling that I have good foundational knowledge to build upon as I progress in my playing. I had the five lesson package, which I felt suited my needs. Tip: If you do something like that, space out your lessons at least every other week, so that you have time to practice and grasp what you're learning. Be sure to ask questions if something is new to you, especially if you're a beginner. I highly recommend guitar lessons from Alex!

About Brandon
I started learning piano by the age of 4. Started composition by the age of 5. At the age of 12, I started guitar and never turned back. Music was always the ULTIMATE escape. To me there's nothing that compares to the feeling I get after completing a song, or the rush of a good performance. I decided that I'd rather do nothing else in life but music. After high school I went to the famed Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA., where I was taught by the most amazing musicians I've ever known. Some of the teachers who influenced me were Dan Gilbert from the Guitar World magazine, and David Oakes who trained with Andre Segovia (famed classical guitarist). After that, I continued with my Bachelors in Music at ENMU. My influences are a wide range. I love any music with shred guitar. Anything virtuosic is what I love. I enjoy playing everything
from Latin, classical, blues, all the way to heavy metal. I have a lot of on stage experience that has served me well, and my mission is to give back the inspiration that has been my love for music.

*** Lesson Details ***
The most important thing with any instrument is that you're enjoying what your doing. If you're not having fun with guitar, then you're probably not going to stick with it. I teach beginning to advanced guitar and my students really enjoy the lesson plans. My lessons vary from student to student depending on what they want to accomplish, and what they need to succeed. After the student reaches a certain level I get them to play with other musicians. Sometimes I'll bring in my drummer and hop on the bass so the student can get the feel of playing with a full band! I expect a lot from students and they seem to have no problem delivering,

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home studio- includes amps, guitars and recording equipment. Custom built computer designed for studio use. Pre-sonus Firepods. Focusrite Sapphire pro 26. Ton's of pedals. Pro Tools 10 Professional

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have backup amps and guitars just in case. I bring all the materials for the lesson plans to the student's home.

*** Specialties ***
classical, rumba, metal, classic rock, hard rock, shred, Brazilian, fusion, blues, and most Latin styles.

Brandon has been an amzing teacher! He has shared with me so much more than just learning chords and songs. His positive light has been such a blessing for my path towards understanding music and discovering so much more about the guitar! I have seen such an improvement in my own abilities and understanding of the guitar.

About Andrew
Andrew is a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, backing vocals) who settled in Las Vegas in 2013. After graduating with honors from Musicians Institute in 2008, he wrote a collection of acoustic guitar pieces licensed to The Weather Channel, then spent 5 years working as a show musician and top-40 musician for 3 cruise lines.

Upon arrival in Sin City, Andrew co-founded the local band “Tin Toy Cars” which consists of various Cirque du Soleil musicians from 2 shows. Their debut album entitled "Falling, Rust and Bones" is currently on hundreds of radio stations nationwide and has broken the all-time record for highest new artist debut on the A.M.A. Charts. Look for the album on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby. In January 2016 the band had feature articles in dozens of newspapers and magazines in Las Vegas,
New York, and Los Angeles, and had many radio interviews scheduled to start the year. Their debut music video was premiered by The Huffington Post in March 2016 along with a feature interview.

Andrew also played the guitar/ukulele/mandolin chair in the pit orchestra for the show "Bright Side" which began in May 2016 and was showcased to pitch to Broadway. It's a musical written by Martin Kaye of "Million Dollar Quartet" (Harrahs Casino) and features a cast made up of performers from "Rock of Ages," "Blue Man Group," "Million Dollar Quartet," and others. The orchestra featured members of "Mystere," "Zarkana," "Vegas The Show," "Ka," and a former musical director for vocalist Andy WIlliams. He closed out 2016 performing in the musicals "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and "American Idiot" alongside actors and musicians from "Ka," "The Beatles Love," "Million Dollar Quartet," "Blue Man Group," and "Rock of Ages."

Andrew's first 2 years in Las Vegas were also filled with many diverse performing situations up and down The Strip. These included a well-known top 40 and oldies band, a Mo-town tribute show, a country band that headlined the 2015 National Finals Rodeo, and a few others.

Andrew also owns an arranging and publishing company, HLC Publishing, which produces arrangements and sheet music for various Las Vegas performers, and a few cruise ship entertainers. Currently he is creating the guitar book for a new Rod Stewart and Tina Turner co-tribute act that will debut in February 2017, and he will also play guitar and mandolin in the show.

Andrew also teaches weekly lessons and plays Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings at Family Worship Christian Church. During the lessons, Andrew uses the same software as his professionally arranged sheet music, to keep a journal for each student as they learn, and the journal is regularly emailed to the student as a PDF file.

We'll focus on the fundamentals of good right- and left-hand technique through a mix of pieces and etudes. You'll learn to read standard notation, but my focus is on getting you actually playing music. We'll also talk about issues of muscle tension and musicality.

About Brendon
I am a composer, guitarist, arranger, engraver, and songwriter located in Brooklyn. I completed an M.M. in Composition at the Yale School of Music in 2014, and have taught extensively for the past eight years in a variety of settings. I currently teach guitar at Saint David's School in Manhattan, and taught private composition lessons and TA'd electronic music courses at Yale. I've also taught guitar and musicianship in public elementary and high schools in San Francisco and New Haven, as well as several music schools and my own private guitar studio.

As a guitarist, I perform with legendary NYC experimental groups the Glenn Branca Ensemble and Dither Quartet, as well as my own groups Invisible Anatomy and Marateck. I've played at the Barbican in London, on the Beijing Modern Music Festival, the Ellnora Guitar Festival, and Lincoln C
enter Out of Doors, among many others. As a composer, my work has received support from the ASCAP Foundation, Roulette Intermedium, and the Jerome Fund for New Music, and been performed on four continents. At age 71, my fist lesson with Steve was August 6, 2015. His instructional style, skillful listening, knowledge and passion for music inspired me to practice and practice and write and write. To those ends, Steve encouraged me to attend an Open Mic Night or two after 7 guitar lessons. Though I was shaking like a box of pills at my first OMN, I eventually overcame my fear and played and sang several blues tunes I'd written. My journey continues. Sometimes I feel like I'm six years old, yet I'm learning how to play better under Steve's guidance. His influence on me has been, and continues to be, profound. Steve's integrity is unimpeachable. I enthusiastically recommend Steve as a music teacher. Art Beane

The most important thing a teacher can do for a student is to guide him or her to a point where advancement becomes a self discipline.
This is accomplished by getting to know a student's learning style and adapting to it. And absolutely laying a strong foundation in fundamentals of music.
I've been teaching private lessons for over five years and all of my students have extensive instruction in music theory. I also encourage experimentation and creativity to work in some music composition.

About Sharon
Music has been a central pulse to my entire life. I started taking piano lessons at age 5 and picked up the clarinet in elementary school. By the end of middle school I was writing songs on the piano and guitar and trying to get anyone I knew to play in a band with me.
In High School I finally did manage to play in a band that would play shows in the Greater Rochester Area in New York State. Once I hit age 18, I packed my bags and moved to San Diego where I continued working on my craft and started my new life.
I never stopped playing music, writing songs, and trying to find people to collaborate with. By the time I started my career as a hairstylist, I knew that I had to share my love and passion for music with others and endeavored to build a student schedule.
My first students, as an adult, were my future in-laws. Mother, father and si
ster in-law learned piano, guitar and music theory with me. My late father in-law had a left leg amputation and was blind. We taped rice on the back of the guitar neck so he would have a tactile reference to his frets. It felt so good to bring a dream of his to life and to prove to naysayers that anyone can play, even if the challenges are far greater than average.
Within a year, I had enough referrals to fill 2 days of the week with students. I have held 3 recitals and plan on having a holiday recital this year.
I will never stop sharing music with others and look forward to meeting any new students granted via this platform.

I approach each student differently. Every musician and person is unique. That being said I believe everyone learns differently. I make learning guitar fun by focusing on music that my
Students are passionate about. I discover where their strengths are and build on them
for confidence as I continue to include exercises that build on skills my students are having difficulty with, without them even knowing. I beleive teaching music deserves a custom approach. I also truly believe if your not having fun playing music, you're not going to get better. I teach with the balance of fun and strengthening weaknesses. Theory, chord transitions and shaping are my focal points.

About Chad
I have been a professional recording artist song writer since I left my job as an electrical engineer for the FAA 3 years ago. My specialty is songwriting. I think everyone has at least one good song in them. When it comes to learning our musical crafts, I truly believe a good environment with good people all having a good time is the best fundamental approach! I do not believe there is one certain way to learn things. That is why I (like many others) will learn certain subject easier using custom approaches. Let's have some fun, learn some tricks and get you jamming, singing and even writing your favorite songs today!

I attended the prestigious Berklee college of music, have been teaching guitar for 10 years and playing for 20. I create lesson plans before every lesson to make sure that my students progress efficiently. I realize that most of the students I gain from takelessons.com will be beginners. Starting off with simple, one finger open chords, and simple melodies is business as usual. I can also teach students their favorite songs using this method. Of course reading music is an option, and I assign a theory book for this based on the students current skill level. As students progress, I teach scales, chord strumming patterns and things of the like. I love teaching and always have fun with my students, it's great to see them excited about learning they're favorite songs. I've been doing this a long time and it doesn't feel like work to me, I'm enthusiastic and well prepared.
