About Diego
Diego is one of Chicago's most sought-after Spanish, Flamenco, Classical, and Latin guitar instructors and a master guitarist. He has taught over 4000 private lessons and has given lectures and workshops in over 300 universities, elementary schools, and music schools, both nationally and internationally.

He graduated with highest honors in flamenco guitar performance from the Fundacion Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco (Seville, Spain). He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Research Psychology and focuses on applying the psychology of learning, skill acquisition, and expertise to learning guitar. With this knowledge, Diego is able to help students achieve their goals quickly with utmost precision and effectiveness.

WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT FROM PRIVATE LESSONS?

The very first things we'll learn to do in our private lesson wil
l be to RELAX, BE PATIENT, and HAVE FUN. Yes, mastering (or even just getting decent at) the guitar takes time and dedicated work, but it should NEVER...BE...RUSHED. Ironically, by relaxing and taking it slow, you'll excel rather quickly and, more importantly, CORRECTLY.

Lessons are based on time-tested methods in guitar pedagogy as well as on up-to-date scientific research in the neurological and psychological processes of skill acquisition and expertise. Key concepts you will learn to incorporate into your practice are "deliberate practice," "spaced practice," "interleaved practice," "performance practice," "mental practice," "conceptual practice," and more. My goal, as a teacher, is to help students learn to practice effectively and efficiently in order to develop the neurological pathways necessary to form, improve, and maintain high-level, musical skills.

CAN ANYONE LEARN GUITAR?

Absolutely! I accept students over 6 years old and at any experience level. Whether you've never touched a guitar before our first lesson, have been playing for a few years, or have your Master's degree in guitar performance, I can and will help you achieve your goals (so long as you do your homework).

WHAT KIND OF GUITAR DO YOU NEED?

For flamenco or classical lessons, you will need a nylon-string guitar (e.g., classical or flamenco), NOT a steel string guitar. If you don't own a nylon-string guitar, you can certainly rent one, but it must be available to you for home practice AT LEAST 6 days/week. For general guitar (with a pick), either a nylon-string or steel-string guitar is fine; however, beginners should use nylon-string guitars.

CAN YOU GUARANTEE RESULTS?

YES! If you follow my instruction and practice plan, I can certainly guarantee results!

Consistent and correct practice are the keys to success. The more consistent you are and the more correctly you practice, the sooner you'll reach your goals. This requires you to commit to practicing 6 days/week for an absolute minimum of 20 minutes/day up to a maximum of 3.5 hours/day; NO EXCEPTIONS! Again, you also MUST be practicing CORRECTLY. I'll show you how, but if you aren't practicing this way and are not consistent with your practice plan, I cannot guarantee results.

Whatever your goals are, I'll help you get there.

About Paul
I have played the guitar for twenty years and have studied a wide variety of music including jazz, classical, folk, blues and rock. I’m skilled in acoustic, electric and classical styles of the guitar. I have an open mind about music and can appreciate any style or type. I have a firm background on music theory, so I am able to explain what I am teaching. I excelled in all my classes in college, music and Gen Eds, with a GPA over 3.75. I also have experience in teaching guitar or bass to students ranging from the ages of six to sixty six. I enjoy taking what I have learned and passing it on to someone else to experience. I believe this is one way you can leave your mark in music. I believe the experience I have playing in bands, and learning songs with my ability of having relative pitch will make my students improve quicker. I am a
lso a very skilled sight reader and can recognize key signatures and musical notation. I’ve also been playing electric bass guitar for 13 years now and have the same skill set as my guitar playing. In fact I am hired to perform more often as a bassist than a guitarist.
I went to Columbia College between 2000-2003 and I completed a Bachelor Arts in Music, Concentration: Instrument Performance.
I also went to Harper College between 1997-2000 and I completed an Associates in Fine Arts of Music.

I've had 4 lessons with Paul and they've been very good. I've had 4 other teachers over the years but Paul had tailored the lessons to my goals as a student rather than feeding me random information. He's very knowledgeable and his ear training is excellent. He's easy to work with and helpful. Highly recommended.

I told Paul that my goal is to be able to pick up the guitar at home or with friends and feel comfortable playing along. After 4 lessons I'm playing 12 bar blues, comfortable with several scales, and even writing my own chord progressions. Not only a good teacher he's been very accommodating to my work/travel schedule.

He has traveled the US with The Continental Singers, an international singing group, been a choral director
in churches and various performing groups. He has worked as a recording studio engineer, live sound engineer, and theater sound designer.

Don strives to bring out the best in each student. Whether a beginner, intermediate, or advanced student, Don will expand your musical horizon and styles to new levels.

*** Lesson Details ***
All that I request from a student is a desire to learn. I will work with you at your pace to achieve the musical goals you have. Each student begins at a different level.

The first lesson will focus on your musical background. If you are a beginner, that's no problem. I specialize in working with beginning students to teach them all the joy and satisfaction there is in mastering an instrument.

I love to laugh and the lessons are very laid back and fun, but I desire that a student move forward and learn new techniques.

You will be playing simple songs after your first lesson. I'm asked many times by students "how long will it take until I'm good." My answer is: that is in direct proportion to the amount of time you dedicate to practicing. After a month or two, you will know how to read music and have a basic understanding of music theory.

I use various curriculum depending on the student's need. For piano, I generally use Alfred Methods. For guitar, Hal Leonard or Mel Bay. For voice, the curriculum is individually tailored to the students level and goals.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in theatrical performance for actors/vocalists.

I am trained extensively in the Carlevaro technique, but I am also familiar with the Segovia, Shearer, and Parkening approach.

Classical is my specialty and I can teach music from Renaissance to modern and flamenco techniques, as well.

About Perry
Hello!

My name is Perry and I am a professional classical, flamenco and electric guitarist performing and recording in the Dallas area. I studied with Robert Guthrie at SMU for many years, as well as Brad McLemore of "Soul Food Cafe" and professional jazz musician Chuck Pangburn at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. In addition, I have taken masterclasses w/ many professional guitarists in all styles such as the flamenco guitarist Miguel Antonio.

I am familiar with all styles. I teach using a foundation in classical/flamenco style and technique. I have found that for my own career as a recording artist in both the classical, acoustic and electric guitar fields that the classical/flamenco styles are the most useful for developing and training the hands to become a consummate professional.

I teac
h beginner to advanced students of any age. I also can provide pro and amateur electric guitarists an in-depth study of correct hand postures and left-hand/right-hand technique which can help to refine their overall technique and stylistic approach. I can also advise professional electric guitarists on their electronics, effects pedals, and amplifiers to achieve their own individual sound. I also teach Bass, and reading the Bass clef.

My teaching specialties include: Solfeggio, Sight Reading, Music Theory, Scales and Modes, Left and Right Hand Technique, Blues Progressions, Jazz Standards the Classical Repertoire, Flamenco styles, techniques and repertoire, and the works of Sor, Giuliani, and Carcassi, Brouwer, Aguado, Villa-Lobos, Sabicas and Paco de Lucia.

I have an in-depth knowledge of the stylistic approaches and techniques of such guitarists as Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Randy Rhoads, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, and SRV to name a few, and I can teach you the components they use to build their signature licks.

As a rule I only transcribe to give the students examples for lessons. I intend for all of my students to grow as musicians, so my lessons do not consist solely of transcribed solos and riffs.

I have a vast library of music, so I can draw from my own resources to teach you, or from a method of your choosing.

My schedule has a few openings right now. I do teach outside of my stated teaching radius, but ONLY at the 60 minute rate.

I teach people of all ages, from children to adults. I believe everyone is on an even keel, if they are willing and eager to learn.

*** Lesson Details ***
Emphasis on classical posture and technique.
Emphasis on sight-reading.
All students learn to play basic blues and jam
Technique varies depending on the particular style the student wishes to learn.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I presently don't teach in my home studio. I can bring a folding music stand or extra footstool if necessary.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a limited number of learning materials such as copied exercises, listening or practicing CD on occasion. However, I feel that it is the student's responsibility to provide their own guitars, and the bulf of their own learning materials and necessary electronic equipment. This can include footstools, music stands, method books, amps, cables, pedals, etc.

*** Specialties ***
I've been playing guitar for 25 years, and this has given me the time to study, perform, and perfect many styles of guitar playing.

I studied classical and flamenco guitar with Robert Guthrie for 4 years before and after my studies in the SMU program. I've also played in jazz and rock ensembles since the age of 14. I studied with Chuck Pangburn, pro jazz cat, and Brad McLemore, an indie rock songwriter, early on in my studies as an adolescent.

I encourage most students to learn to play on a classical or nylon-string guitar early on in order to develop proper technique, posture, sensitivity, and sensibility. I also encourage all students to learn to sight-read at a very early point in their studies. Once, this hurdle is cleared many other challenges are easily surpassed.

Presently, I am developing a new method which incorporates solfeggio, blues and popular music forms, and improvisational playing. I also am exploring the vanguard of new guitar technology such as the Moog Guitar, analog effects, and various guitar synthesizers.

I try to introduce an understanding of music theory early on so that students develop a full comprehension of not only the written language of music, but also the sonic-aural language of music.

Within a month of lessons with Perry, my daughter was in love with the guitar! Perry is professional and great with kids! He couples the basics with discourse about genre, and is very encouraging! Perry helped guide us in the right guitar and accessories to get us set up before the lessons began, which was incredibly helpful. We are very glad we selected Perry to teach our 7-year old to play guitar and look forward to watching her grow under his guidance.

Time is spent on exercises, learning songs, and personal projects

About Bryan
Bryan is a lifelong student trained in both Contemporary and Classical methodology. Bryan's extensive education paired with his passion for music make him the perfect teacher for any student. Bryan's love for music started at a young age. He began taking private guitar lessons at the age of 10 learning the basics. This knowledge has served as the basis for all of his musical training as it provided a strong backbone of fundamental skills to build upon. Graduating from the University of Oregon in 2005, he practiced and perfected the classical approach to music. Bryan's education continued at the Musicians Institute based in the music capital of the world, Los Angeles. Here he diversified his music skills with vigorous training in the contemporary study of music. This contrast allows Bryan to teach everything from Rock n' Roll to Beethoven!

Bryan Specializes in the guitar and Bass Guitar; however, he is proficient in piano and drums as well. His interests range from simply perfecting the art of guitar playing, to composing modern music for entire bands. Additionally, Bryan's expertise extends into the technological side of recording and producing music. Thorough knowledge of popular computer programs allows Bryan to complete almost any music related task.

Bryan has been teaching private lessons for the past 10 years.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am an incredibly patient teacher with only one goal in mind: help the student progress steadily! For this reason, every students lessons will be different. However, a typical lesson will aim to improve on 4 basic categories... Guitar technique and dexterity, Music Theory / Improvisation, Learning students favorite Songs, and Personal projects. Personal projects can range from writing songs, to recording songs, or to learning the basics of other instruments.

As a lifetime musician I have a very good idea of what works for most students. However, my goal is to be YOUR teacher, and I will focus on whatever it is that interests you the most!

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio is made up of high quality equipment. It currently includes electric guitars, Acoustic guitars, BASS Guitars, baritone guitars, a piano, Mac computers and a Professional PA system. He also does a good job of explaining how he uses his intuition as a guitar player and musician, which helps me develop intuition of my own.I would definitely recommend Bryan!

I can teach you how to play classical guitar. You will learn how to hold the guitar, move your fingers, play melodies, exercises and learn compositions.

About Richard
I started learning how to play the guitar around 15 years old. I have over 35 years experience. I took lessons for three years of reading, writing tab and notations, chord charts, melodies, classical guitar, soloing, taping, techniques, song learning, ear training and transposing. From the songs, I've learned to play the rhythm and solo. Over the years I self taught myself guitar by listening to my favorite artist. I played in local bands for many years and performed in venue's in my home town. When I play in bands, I'm always labeled the lead guitar player of the group. I help everyone out with their parts and timing. I have recording experience in the studio as much as my home studio using Steinburg's Cubase. I took a music theory course and received a certificate.

I like to format my guitar lessons based on what style of music my students would like to play. We could learn how to hold the guitar and use our fingers in the most efficient ways to build and learn chords, we could be tackling tabs and learning about finger picking techniques, or we could focus on songwriting, song structures, chord families, and theory. Whatever fit your style, you'll be able to play your favorite songs after we work hard together!
