We'll focus on the fundamentals of good right- and left-hand technique through a mix of pieces and etudes. You'll learn to read standard notation, but my focus is on getting you actually playing music. We'll also talk about issues of muscle tension and musicality.

About Brendon

I am a composer, guitarist, arranger, engraver, and songwriter located in Brooklyn. I have taught extensively for the past ten years in a variety of settings, including teaching private guitar lessons at Saint David's School in Manhattan, teaching private composition lessons and TA'ing two electron

Brendon helped me get started writing songs / producing music. Brendon was very helpful getting past anxieties with getting started and feeling overwhelmed by all the possible ways you can go about making music. Each week he had suggestions on how to improve the structure of my music. Also, he was willing to go wherever my interests were at.
Furthermore, he's nice.

I have been teaching since 2008 and have a BA in Music. Classical Guitar is my specialty. I have been studying and teaching it for many years. My students have learned pieces like Recaurdos de Alahambra and Leyenda (Austarias). I have played many recitals solo and as a duet with a flute. Classical guitar takes many years of practice, patient, and dedication. It is my belief, however, that classical is one best forms of training out there.

About Andrei

Teaching music is one of my passions. I value each student and the time I have with them; helping them to explore the world of music. After each lesson, my students walk away with a deeper understanding of music and have enjoyed their time. Music is a lifelong skill that can always be practiced and

My teaching philosophy is all about self-education: not only will I teach you how to play the guitar but I will also help you learn how to teach yourself. The work required to learn an instrument doesn't come from 30 to 60 minutes of lessons from a professional, it comes from the intensity of focus you spend playing the guitar throughout your time outside of lessons.

We will start with the end in mind; what is your goal? What music or songs do you want to learn? Then, together we will build a lesson plan to accomplish that goal. Throughout the lesson plan, along with playing your favorite songs, we will cover several aspects of being a musician: proper technique; musical interpretation and expression; music theory, which will include understanding notes, scales, chords, harmonic progressions, and analyzing music; communication when performing with other musicians; and building habits and techniques toward effective practicing.

The great thing about this process is it establishes ...

Hello there! I am a former instructor for the Junior Appalachian Musicians program, teacher at the Mountain Music School, and a Luthier of twenty years. I like to emphasize the fun and magic in music, these lessons shouldn't be a source of stress, rather a source of joy! Each lesson is tailored to the student, and will move at a pace comfortable to the student. I have spent two decades playing a large swathe of music, though I gravitate towards old time banjo and classical guitar.

About Kyle

I am a music lover first and foremost, my roots are in mountain music, clawhammer banjo specifically. That music captured me from an early age and I hit the ground running with it. Though it didn't take long before I picked up other genres and instruments. Classical guitar quickly became one of my f

First and formost I love creating music. Whether that is playing, writing, or teaching. Making music is basically all I have done for the past 20+yrs. I play and perform on multiple instruments so that gives me an insight into how different instruments interact with one another either in a band situation or songwriting/arranging. My main goal as a teacher is to get you playing and making music as soon as possible. I want you to enjoy learning music by playing your favorite songs and really be excited about the whole process. Through learning songs the lessons and supplemental materials can become very personalized to the students' interests.
I throughly love sharing my knowledge and experience with my students. Knowing the joy music brings to my life fills me with the passion to pass it along to my students. Every student gets their own Google Classroom where the lesson materials and communications can happen quickly and directly. I record each lesson and provide the replay of ...

He cares about hands position in the guitar in order to play the guitar in a comfortable and efficient way. Also, he tells you what you are doing wrong in a very subtle way. "I was self taught for @ 5 months then decided to get lessons. I wanted a pro to be able to assess where I was at and give me the right instruction.

Tomas was able to to give me just that. He also taught me some neat strum patterns that made it fun. My wife really likes the sounds I can make with the guitar after only 2 lessons with Tomas.

On top of that he is a genuinely pleasant person to be around. I can tell he loves teaching people guitar.

My wife really likes the genre of music I am learning because she grew up with it. I like it as well as the finger skills that go along with it.

I believe this experience learning from Tomas will greatly influence the personal music style that I end up developing into."

A Little Bit of Country: Easy Classic Country Songs for Guitarists

If you're a fan of classic country music, you've come to the right place. Here, guitar teacher Willy M. shares his favorite classic country songs for guitarists... I grew up in the late '70s and early '80s in the rural Midwest when "Hee-Haw," a country television program, was something that everyone knew about. It was the Grand Ole Opry’s rendition of a high-theatrical experience, and a showcase for classic country artists to play their tunes. Willie Nelson, one of my favorite songwr …

Should Classical Violinists Learn to Improvise?

A few weeks ago the Washington Post published an article about musician Hannah Hanh and her struggles with improvisation.  As a classical violinist, she hadn't had much training for spontaneity, naturally. The article points out improvisation as a technique that has fallen by the wayside for many performers these days. And it asks an interesting question: Can (and should) classical musicians learn to improvise? We've talked a lot about improvising on the guitar and drums, but where do classi …
