The traditional school of Tárrega and Segovia will be expanded with my lessons. I cover five-finger techniques, explorations of sonority (think Julian Bream and beyond), and what have often been called special techniques (percussion, harmonics, golpes . . . ). Traditional repertoire as well as original composition and improvisation will be covered.
I began to teach guitar at 16 years of age. I have taught seven- to 60-year-old students in a wide variety of styles. I studied jazz guitar primarily with Randy Vincent, one of the San Francisco Bay Area's greatest guitar players, and continue to broaden my horizons under the guidance of Matthew Grasso. Aside from teaching, I compose, perform, and research in Music and Language Arts.
Lars is an awesome instructor. Very knowledgeable and also very articulate with his instructions. I highly recommend him. I am an absolute beginner and yet he was able to share so much in the very first lesson itself! He also makes learning fun.
Students will learn how to classically play the guitar properly along with all the techniques that accompany a classical playing style.

I can teach classical guitar from beginner to a college level. My teaching is based on the Lopez-Ramos model which is world class in its results. I also work with students to play the music they desire. I have had students in the past learn bossa nova, south American styles. I also teach theory and sight reading with the lessons.
As a guitarist in my early years I spent much time reworking my technique and gaining insight in how guitar playing really works. My early struggles gave way to a solid knowledge of the guitar and music.
This was gained through no small part through my High School music teacher, through master classes of Manuel Lopez Ramos and Abel Carlevaro and others.
These master classes helped me in a big way to develop teaching systems and principles that can help anyone to learn guitar easier and more effectively.
You will gain from the knowledge of these world class guitarists and teachers which will help you to play better and more musical.
And from my musical background-of playing hundreds of songs and compositions of many styles and understanding o
f musical structure.
I will give you simple technical training to help the hands work together and develop a musical sound. As I teach I look for your gifts (in creativity, musical playing etc) and actively look to enhance that gift.
When problems come along in your studies, I help you to solve them in a way you can apply them for yourselves. Teach and show students how music works and how to play artistically.

Studied at Roosevelt University as a classic guitar major with music education and jazz studies.
Give students a well rounded education in all the major styles-techniques, teaching them finger picking as well as pick technique, chords and improvisation.
I specialize in building a strong foundation both musically and technically for people that have not played guitar or even music before and helping them to reach the musical goals they desire.
For the pick guitar I use the Mel Bay method along with handouts for chords/exercises and finger picking patterns This gives you flexibility to explore many musical styles.
For classic guitar I use the Sagreras or Parkening methods plus the same handouts as for pick guitar.
For electric bass I use the Hall Leonard Method, plus handouts.
I teach children how to practice and to keep a practice schedule.
I operate with a patient approach, a comfortable learning process. This helps you to learn properly and builds a solid foundation for your playing.
In general after 3 months you will know all the basic chords and how to change them. How to play the blues scale, read music /tab plus some songs with basic chords.
For the electric bass you will play blues patterns, read music and tab.
After 6 months you will be in general able to play bar chords, and more complex songs (with full chords).
For the electric bass more complex songs, movable major scales.
Keep in mind as you move through these studies you will be enjoying playing music and be moving towards the goal you had in mind in taking up music including learning the music, the styles you wanted to play.
*** Studio Equipment *** I can provide a music stand and a foot stool. I can get them or show them where to get a method book They would just need a guitar.
*** Travel Equipment *** I can teach lessons at the students home in Des Plaines, Park Ridge, Morton Grove, Skokie, Wilmette and adjoining communities.
*** Specialties *** Be encouraged that you and/or your family member can learn to play and it's not as hard as you think.
What I have found is it takes no special talent to play the guitar, just the desire to practice and learn. Lessons with a teacher helps you to learn quicker and more problem free, unlike other approaches. A teacher can help you personally when you have problems and questions. The investment you make will help you or a family member to play music for many years...
Teach most major styles folk, rock, blues, classical, finger picking, Jazz (Bossa Nova) Also gospel, praise and worship guitar.
I provide formal classical guitar instruction from beginner to advanced. I studied at the American Conservatory of Music and the Chicago Musical College with Paul Henry in addition to numerous master classes.
A job provides money. A career provides income over a longer term. But, guitar...guitar is part of who I am.
My passion for guitar and music has been alive as long as I can remember. Don't get me wrong, guitar and I had our ups and downs. Serious issues! At times guitar was stubborn and difficult. In fact, while attending the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago on the Presidential Scholarship in Classical Guitar Performance, there were days when I considered ending my relationship with guitar. But, I stayed with guitar. With dedication to our relationship and a lot of work, we are still together and happier than ever. And, here to help you work on your relationship with your guitar.
Ranging from learning the basics of guitar, to integrating style, and to mastering how to play songs with ease.
Hello! My name is Austin, and my personal life motto is: doing my best to help others realize and reach their best! I have been teaching a number of topics ranging from music, fitness, to technology, writing, and religious texts for over 7 years. Over these years, I have also worked a myriad of jobs to receive invaluable experience as well as learn how to interact with all kinds of people.
It has always been my deep passion and true joy to journey along with someone who is simply willing to learn the many gifts that life has for us to enjoy! I am currently studying for my masters at Western Seminary, interning at a church, and a certified teacher here at TakeLessons.
Time and time again, I have come to realize that life is about serving, teaching, and loving others with what we already have; teaching is such a simple yet profound
way to practice this!
I look forward to doing my best in order to help you realize, reach, and ultimately relish your best!
My son enjoyed his first lesson with Austin and we hope there are many more to come!

Austin is an excellent instructor. He was very patient with me and helped me to work on the areas that I felt needed the most improvement, developing new techniques and skills to take my game to a higher level. I highly recommend!

I am an adult and absolute beginner in volleyball and was looking to learn some basics and Austin did a great job of teaching me.
I have been fortunate enough to study with many great classical guitarists since I started playing the guitar. My first instructor was a student of Andres Segovia, the father of classical guitar! I also studied with great classical guitarists while earning my degree at USC. I took years of lessons with both Adam del Monte and James Smith, and I am always glad to share everything I learned on to the next classical guitarist!
I have a deep passion for music making and music education. I take pride in watching my students progress, develop and excel. I have helped all level of students, from early beginners getting over the beginner lessons hump, to students preparing to enter college and hobbyists or professionals trying to sharpen their skills. I am proud of the work that I have done and love to share my knowledge and experience with others!
Joseph is a classical Guitar Instructor who has had experience with several guitar students ages 7 and above. He covers everything from theory, technique and performing.
Joseph Gulasarian is a professional guitarist who has trained under well known flamenco/classical guitarists such as Vahagni Turgutyan, Sarkis Turgutyan, and Saro Babikian for over 8 years. Joseph has also performed at various venues and recitals, such as USC, performing art studios and cafes! He makes learning easy and takes step by step procedures to benefit his students the best he can. Making learning fun and enjoyable to all his students.
Joseph is a very knowledgeable and friendly teacher. He is organized and carefully plans for each lesson. My playing techniques improved a lot since I started working with him. He helped me better understand the music I play and think of beyond the technique and hitting the right notes. Thus, I became more expressive and musical player.

Joseph is a great instructor with a wonderful, upbeat personality and a great deal of knowledge. My daughter is enjoying her guitar lessons and learning quite a bit in a short amount of time. He is highly recommend!

Very professional!! My son enjoys every single lesson and looks forward to it each time!! Compassionate and a great teacher!!
Touring guitarist, experienced composer for film/media, and professional music instructor for the past 8 years! I graduated Magna Cum Laude from McNally Smith College of Music with two bachelor's degrees; Guitar Performance and Instrumental Composition. I have taught students of literally all ages (4-76) and most specialize in guitar, music theory, and composition. I also teach beginner to intermediate piano lessons! My greatest strong suit as a teacher is my incredible flexibility in adapting to the student's learning style. Originally a self-taught guitarist, I know the struggles of learning or continuing to better oneself on an instrument. I guarantee you that I will work hard and patiently with you to help you reach your musical goals!
Greetings! My name is Ethan Elseth and I have been working as a professional musician, composer/arranger, and teacher for the past 5 years. I tour nationally and internationally as lead guitarist with Minneapolis's very own Har Mar Superstar and am an active composer/arranger specializing in music for media, film, and anything orchestral. I have an extensively wide range of experience and knowledge in my specialized areas; having done work for the MN Orchestra, the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra, the Quad Cities Symphony Orchestra, written music of nearly every style for clientele, performed and toured in a multitude of different ensembles, and have taught students aged 5 to 75! I love passing down my knowledge and sharing my experiences with the eager student and seeing the "lightbulb going off" expression on my student's faces when somet
Fourth lesson in with Ethan and absolutely love it! I was recommended by a friend to try him out and don't regret it one bit! I wanted to learn more about music theory and how I can pair it effectively with my guitar playing and composing.

Ethan's personality and teaching approach has made the last 3 months of learning guitar very enjoyable and inspiring! His playing and compositions amazed me from the very first lesson. His teaching environment is very beautiful and professional (he lives in an artist loft) I've recommended him to friends who've started taking lessons with him as well! :)
"With a patient and intuitive approach, Juan tailors each lesson to fit not only the student’s skill level, but also desire for depth of understanding. Whe
n I first began taking lessons, I was only able to plunk a few chords and play along with a few basic songs. However, over the course of a year and a half with Juan, I gained a foundational knowledge of the classical guitar, as well as the confidence to site read and play a range of other styles of guitar music. He seamlessly integrated music theory concepts into song studies, helping me learn major/minor scales and chord shapes, and then apply this knowledge to better understand song structures and composition. It has been such a great experience learning from Juan, especially because he is both an exemplary teacher and guitar player!"
You are really great with Ben, btw. I like how you are patient with him, compliment him and encourage him. He clings on your every word. He
is also very impressed with the talent you bring to the table when you play at the lessons. It's fun to be a part of that!"
"My experience with Raymond has been wonderful! I have been studying classical guitar with him for a few years and have steadily improved even though I ha
ve less time and energy to practice than I would like. Raymond teaches the process of learning music, and as I have opened up to this process, I have seen great results, not only in music, but in other aspects of my life and learning. Raymond's instincts about how to help me learn are an example of the way he goes the extra mile to tailor each student's instruction to their needs. Hearing him play is also incredibly inspiring! Along with his wonderful personality and sense of humor, these qualities keep me excited to play the guitar, and always brighten my day! I highly recommend Raymond as a teacher to anyone who loves music!"
"Ivan Gomez is one of the best guitarist I’ve ever met, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to take many online classes with him. Unlike many teachers Ivan pu
ts a lot of attention in technique, saying that it’s the most important aspect of the your playing. I’ve been able to learn a lot about the guitar, as he showed me many ways to improve my playing. I highly recommend him for other students of any level."
"Professional and patient with kids!
Mr. Richard, as we call him, has been fantastic with my 7 year old son. His early recommendations maximized my son's
guitar interaction and the visible (audible?) progress being made actively encourages practice at home.
Mr. Richard is able to give simplified homework that my son can understand. As opposed to "practice for 20 minutes per day", Mr. Richard was able to identify what works with my son's personality and established practice criteria that was much more effective."
"David was knowledgeable and helpful. He tailored the lesson to my goals. Now time for lots of homework with a metronome!"
"Mark was great. Very knowledgeable. Has a calm approach. Nice guy."
"Great and motivational teacher who cares about your progress."
"I pressed the wrong star on my review!!! I meant to press the last start, not the first!!! Alex was a wonderful teacher to our son from middle school al
l the way up to graduation. Because of Alex, our son developed a love for the guitar and plays for fun while in school and had the opportunity to play for worship bands this past summer!!!"
Learning to play other people's guitar solos is a great way to begin learning to write your own! Guitar teacher Nils B. shares his tips to learning four classic rock solos so you can develop your technique...
An essential part of every musician's development is to imitate those who have already mastered their instrument. After settling on a song, give it a couple of close listens (preferably on headphones or a decent stereo), pick up a good transcription, then learn the rhythm parts, while …
