Guitar lessons are tailored to students of all ages, ability levels and musical interests. Guitar students will be taught music literacy, technique and musicianship in a creative and innovative way. While incorporating traditional guitar methods with contemporary sources, students are exposed to a wide variety of music from various cultures and time periods. Students will be encouraged to perform in the community and to participate in ensembles.

I can help you get started on the fundamentals of classical guitar playing which would include the following:
- Learning to read music from beginning concepts to contemporary music notation.
- Left and right hand techniques for classical guitar playing which also carry over to acoustic steel-string fingerstyle guitar playing.
- Learning beginning to intermediate classical guitar repertoire from classical composers of the 18th and 19th centuries to contemporary 20th century composers

For classical guitar we will use my favorite standard method book by mel bay, which will allow you to work ahead of lessons and develop ideas and questions.

I teach most styles of guitar, but my favorite genre is classical guitar. I love the music of Fernando Sor, Tarrega, Carcassi, Giuliani, and many others!

I cannot learn something without wanting to immediately begin sharing what I know. That's what inspired me to begin teaching, and it continues to drive me today.

My credo is, "Take fun seriously." There is a reason we say that we "play" music; it is meant to be entertaining, for the listener and the performer. I know you want to learn to play an instrument so that you have one more pleasure in your life, and not to take up a new profession. But I also assume the highest potential in my students. If something is worth learning, it's worth learning well. My goal is for people to say to each other, "There seem to be a lot of good guitarists coming out of the Madison area. What's in the water?" My bottom line: Whatever your personal objectives, it is my job to discover them and help you meet them, whether you're interested performing at the campfire or the concert hall.

I like to show my students how the guitar can be a small orchestra. The possibilities of sounds and colors that it can provide is unknown to other instruments and that is what makes it so great. Unlike the piano where a small hammer hits the strings or the violin where the bow frictions them, we have to produce the entire sound on the guitar with our own hands. The process is more personal and, even though it can be harsh at times, it is always satisfying. I also try to bring a more creative part of music when studying the instrument, which keeps classes more dynamic and interesting. I bring my own experiences so that the students can relate in different levels of difficulty.
