Drumset only. I can teach students a variety of basic drum grooves in a variety of styles and can help students understand how to incorporate fills into their playing. I can also teach reading basics.
I am overjoyed and grateful to say I have been playing music for more than half of my life. It has never stopped being the light in my day and now it is my hope to shed some of that light onto you or your child. I am a very friendly and fun teacher with a great deal of professionalism and patience, even more importantly I love teaching and music with a passion.
I have been playing an instrument since the 4th grade (cello) and, as I learned more about how music works, was slowly able to pick-up a greater variety instruments with an increasing degree of ease. In high school, I decided to pick-up the guitar just to "have fun and rock out". I joined a band, played in the high school orchestra, joined the high school jazz band and began to practice songwriting and cover songs. Still, it was not until after I took my first class on music the
ory that I knew how much I not only loved the thrill of playing music but the discovery of how it worked. With this experience I can show you or your child why learning an instrument can be not only an exciting experience but an interesting and enthralling one as well.
I have been teaching music for over 7 years and have had the privilege of teaching children as young as 4 to adults in their late 80's. I am a very attentive teacher who can not only help get you moving in the right direction but keep you on that path until your are a self-sufficient musician. A level of musicianship that simply means you can learn whatever you want on your instrument on your own, whether it be for business, pleasure or for mere self-improvement.
Through my own student career in private lessons I had the chance to study with graduates of the Musician's Institute (MI), the California Institute of the Arts (CAL Arts) and Berklee College of Music. This has provided me with an inside look into how and what each institute teaches, as well as a first hand look at the techniques and ideas that the great players from these remarkable schools have come to produce.
My formal music education consists of 2 years at Pasadena City College where I obtained my general Associates Degree (much of the studies included music) and a semester at California State University Long Beach as a Jazz Guitar Performance Major. Additionally, I completed a great deal of California State University Long Beach's teaching credential program (focusing on the teaching of history/social studies), where I learned strategies and theories of how and what to teach my students - making me that much more knowledgable of my craft. At Pasadena City College I studied with jazz/classical guitarist, Ron Berman, who has played with such jazz greats as Herb Ellis and Jimmy Wyble. At Cal State Long Beach I studied with jazz guitarist Ron Eschete, a former teacher at MI who has toured with the likes of Ray Brown, John Dizzy Gillespie and Jim Hall.
Most importantly I hope to show you or your child a new way to love and appreciate music. And to provide you with the ability and know-how to have the most fun on your instrument as possible.
*** Lesson Details *** Throughout my lessons, I always encourage basic skills including scales, sight-reading and technical exercises. But what I hope to give all my students is a basic understanding of music and their instrument, providing them with a practical ability to navigate the vast world of music for a lifetime.
Beyond these skills, I always have songs, styles and theory for you to work on but I am often more interested in what you as an individual want to learn on your instrument. Getting to learn concepts that you have chosen yourself will help encourage practice and will make the finished product all the more the rewarding.
I can custom tailor a teaching curriculum and/or style for any of my students: we can focus on learning songs, learning to read, how to write music, how music works, and even how to play specific styles of music (including funk, rock, jazz, Latin, flamenco, classical, country and blues). I also self tailor my own worksheets and set weekly goals with my students to help encourage practice, understanding and progress. For students interested in more advanced concepts, I can also teach ear training, music theory, advanced jazz improvisation as well as advanced playing techniques.
All this in a friendly and easy-going teaching environment.

I've had three banjo teachers over the past two and a half years. Judging by Jared's performance today, he's the best of the lot. The first banjo teacher expected too much too soon, and the second one started me out with the basics, as if I had never picked up a banjo before. Jared is starting our lessons at the right stage for where I am. He's patient and explains things well. If I had started with him two and a half years ago, I'd be a decent banjo player by now. Thanks, Jared!!!!!
*Heads Up! I'll be on tour with Brian Setzer for November and December and will only be available for online lessons :)
1. All my students feel like rock stars! Each lesson is fun and enriching. 2. I provide a clear lesson plan complete with goals, achievement levels, and performances.
*Experienced teacher and professional musician. *Has performed with: The Brian Setzer Orchestra, Great Good Fine Ok, 10,000 Maniacs, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess, Gaslamp Quarter Jazz Orchestra. *Recorded on national tv ads including Coca-Cola, Dreyer's, KFC. *Over 7,000 private lessons taught to over 300 students. *More than five years of classroom teaching experience in San Diego and Miami-Dade public schools: K-5 general music, middle and high school band, under graduate music history, directing college jazz ensembles *Students have inclu
ded: ages 4-96, beginners with no experience, undergraduate music majors, scholarship award winners, members of the San Diego Youth Symphony program, many locals in San Diego, and online students from around the world.
My mission is to provide a positive musical experience for all students. For some this includes rigorous preparation for an audition of some kind, for others it may be an introduction to music fundamentals to foster better listening skills and greater artistic appreciation. All students will be challenged to improve their listening, timing, and technique. All students will learn to play songs that they love.
Students get a minimum of one lesson per week. I am not able to schedule lessons every other week.
Recommendations for best results: 1. Make a three-month commitment to weekly lessons. 2. Practice at least three times a week, for a minimum of 15 minutes each time. This formula virtually guarantees results. Bring your instrument, music books, and a binder with sheet protectors ☺
*Scheduling policies: No Cancellations. If the student is unable to attend a lesson as scheduled I will use the time to email a video lesson to the student. Other alternatives: online lesson, reschedule, add time to next lesson (based on availability). Students may put lessons on hold up to once per quarter with at least one week notice.
To continue weekly lessons, students must maintain at least 90% attendance or the time slot may be forfeited.
Jordan was born and raised in the El Centro, California where he began playing the alto sax in the elementary band program. At the age of 12, he began his study of guitar and drums, performing in several rock and ska bands around his home town and San Diego. At age 14, is where he found his love for brass instruments when he took up the trombone. While in high school he became a soloist with the Imperial Valley College Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of former Basie trumpeter Jimmy Cannon. That lead Jordan to accept the Constance Weldon Music Scholarship to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.
While performing in South Florida Jordan appeared with major acts including 10,000 Maniacs, and appeared on the Spanish television show "Calle Ocho." He also gained invaluable experience teaching in Miami public schools. His first teaching assignment was at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School where he directed 3 beginning bands, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and their highly decorated Jazz Band. Later Jordan moved into the elementary setting, teaching vocal and instrumental music for grades K-5 at Cypress Elementary.
In 2007, Jordan returned to California to pursue a music career in San Diego. He can be seen performing all over San Diego, Orange, and LA Counties in styles ranging from rock, jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, Latin, and more. He performs primarily on trombone, piano, and guitar, but is known to pick up percussion, harmonica, and other wind instruments as well. In 2011, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess were nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the category of "Best Blues Artist" after the release of their first album "From The Hip." They released their second album "Turbulence" last December, and are heard regularly on local San Diego radio. This album has also been nominated for Best Pop album for the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. In 2013, Jordan completed his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.
On stage, Jordan is a talented and versatile performer. He is known for his trombone sound and improvisational ability, as well as his positive relationship with his fellow musicians. In lessons, Jordan is energetic and creative.
You can expect a laid back, yet focused environment. Most of all, you can look forward to progress! Hope to see you soon.

I have been teaching drum for 22 years. I have an earned Masters degree in music and enjoy teaching students of all ages. I am happily married with 5 children at home--4 of them are musicians as well (the youngest is 4).. Students will quickly learn not only the basics of music theory, but will be playing songs as early as their first lesson. It is extremely rewarding watching students have fun, excel, and fall in love with making music. I look forward to working with you.
Hello, my name is Doyle B. and I am eager to help you reach your goals! I've been teaching private lessons since 1992 and have loved helping my students win competitions at the state level, learn how to advance rapidly on their instrument, and fall in love with making music. I have 3 earned degrees from Pensacola Christian College (B.S. in Music Ed., 1992), Hobe Sound Bible College (A.A., 1993) and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Master of Church Music, 1996). I have experience teaching all of the band instruments, violin, guitar, and piano. I'm an enthusiastic, upbeat person who greatly enjoys working with people of all ages. I am presently employed at Hobe Sound Bible College and Christian Academy. I presently have students in New Jersey, South Dakota, Florida, and Maryland, who I teach using Skype or FaceTime. Fortunately,
I have a couple openings in my schedule to teach any one who is serious about excelling on his/her instrument. I look forward to helping you reach your potential.
Hello! I specialize in teaching younger beginners ages 5-12 the basics of drumming in a way that helps your child locate and develop their innate musical senses and skills. I help kids learn how to "feel" music naturally and how to "speak" the musical language with ease. I focus my lessons on fun experiences that can't help but lead kids down a path of musical discovery and development.
Hello! My name is Mike and I'd love to help you learn how to play the drums! I'm a lifelong music lover and I started playing the drum set at age 12. I love helping my students learn the drum beats and fills from their favorite songs. I center my teaching around fostering a natural ease and love for playing the instrument, while building strong technique, notation reading skills, and musical knowledge. I have a relaxed personality, and I am quick to recognize your learning style. Whether you excel at learning by ear, or if you are a natural reader, I will help your strengths shine through while also taking the time to strengthen your weaknesses. Most of all, I love to groove, and would love to help you!
Mike is one of 4 drum teachers to enter my son Larry’s life, and absolutely the best one. Larry has shown more improvement in the last 6 months with Mike than in the last 4 years combined with all of his previous teachers.
As my son has a disability, it is often hard to find a teacher that can not only help him to find enjoyment and enthusiasm, but treat him like the serious musician he is. The best part of his teaching… Larry doesn’t even realize he’s learning. To him, they just jam.
I’ve seen my son grow not just as a drummer, but as a musician and student since Mr. Mike became his instructor. Now, he can listen better, play better, and have more fun on his instrument. I am very grateful for Mr. Mike’s patience, compassion, and skill set as a drum instructor and for the confidence he brought to my son.

Has challenged me to improve my technique and has taught me how to play more advanced beats.

It’s hard to express how much Mike’s drumming lessons have made a difference in our son’s life. Mike is a visionary teacher who cares about and connects with his students.

Ever since I've been taking lessons from John, my playing has gotten drastically better. He's incredibly knowledgeable, has access to tons of resources, and is super outgoing and engaging. Lessons with him truly made drumming into my passion, and he played a large part in helping me earn a music scholarship for college. I would recommend him to anyone and everyone.

I love taking lessons with John. I'm definitely a weird case for any instructor - I've been playing for 15 years, but I never worked with any teachers on building out my fundamentals correctly. John pinpointed my ability and exactly where I needed to improve. He didn't need a ramp up period - in only one lesson we hit the ground running.
After just a few months of lessons, I've improved enormously and it feels like there's more potential on the horizon. The exercises he gives me are spot on and for the first time I'm really enjoying practicing. Taking lessons with John is the real deal - he's truly transmitting what it means to play and I can see him easily transitioning between players of any ability with patience. I admire him as a musician, and he's also just an awesome guy. Would recommend to anyone.
Why these lessons are different: - Formally trained conductor/composer/producer - Individual or group session options including full band production - A long roster of satisfied clients - Broad base of musical styles (rock, classical, jazz, blues, metal, bluegrass, folk, theater, big band, symphonic, pop, punk, country, march, gospel, avant-garde...) - Over 20 yrs teaching experience and work with recognized professionals including work in some of the top-rated private schools in the United States - Over 30 years performing experience
My process is based on (but does not adhere strictly to
) the Classical approach to Western tonal harmony and asks that the students develop certain fundamentals of technique and theory. In my experience, this structure creates the strongest foundation for pupils to build the rest of their musical lives on, whether professionally or solely for personal enjoyment. All of my students are on the fast track to studying music theory. Whatever level they are at when I start with them, I guide their efforts into bringing the students up to a certain level of comprehension regarding the mathematical aspects of music and how it relates to their instruments. This understanding of theoretical principles of sound allows the students to play any style of music they wish, no matter how their tastes may change throughout their lives.

Darrell helped me a lot to get a handle on my Ableton rig. I needed to set up midi tracks, locate presets to create cool sounds from plugins. Then I needed to export the audio of a couple of those tracks to import into a separate Pro Tools project. Lot of progress, thanks Darrell! -- Frank S

Absolutely loved the lesson and loved Darrell. He made me feel very comfortable and made the lesson fun. I learned a lot and really am looking forward to the next ones. Very excited to be embarking on this new venture in my life.

Since I play other instruments, I can show you how to jam to anything and sound good while having a blast!
For children, I make lessons fun and varied with learning and musical games to keep them excited and engaged.
For everyone, I can teach you the most efficient ways to learn any musical skill based on experience and leading scientific books on learning, while keeping lessons fun!
I've studied piano and other instruments for 30 years, have been teaching music for 20, and have been a full time professional musician and music teacher for 11 years.
As a musician who was raised on classical piano but has also spent his life playing in bands, jamming, and composing in several genres, I believe that a well-rounded musical education is not only practical, but that it brings out the most enjoyment in music.
I also believe in teaching students whatever they love whether it's classical, rock, pop, jazz, world music, or a mix of everything! The more they love it, the more they will practice, and in turn the more they will love how they have improved - a circle of awesomeness!
As a professional musician, I play over 130 shows a year throughout North America as lead singer-guitarist for Celtic Rock group The Whiskeydicks, a
s the touring pianist for classical crossover group Vivace, as a solo singer-guitarist-pianist, and as the lead singer-guitarist-pianist-composer for my own symphonic-rock-fusion group, The Living. I've also toured extensively in Europe as keyboardist and backing vocalist for singer-songwriter Melanie Dekker.
My compositions have been performed by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, The Plastic Acid Orchestra, Turning Point Ensemble, Ad Mare Wind Quintet, Vivace, The Living, The Whiskeydicks and cellist-singer-songwriter Cris Derksen.
I have a B.Mus in Piano and Music Composition from The University of British Columbia. I'm an IVA Certified Level I Voice Instructor and have studied Vocals with John Henny, Jeffrey Skouson, Guy Babusek, and Spencer Welch; piano with Terence Dawson, David Vandereyk, and Ross Taggart; composition with Dorothy Chang, Keith Hamel, and Armanini; drums with Jay Deachman and Morgan Childs; bass with David Spidel; and accordion with Jelena Milojevic.
I've just moved to LA from Vancouver where I had about 40 students, so this is the time to sign up as I have room for new students for the first time in years!
I have been working with students of all ages and levels for over 26 years and have learned something meaningful from each and every one them. Nothing makes me happier when I see them getting into great schools and acquiring lucrative jobs that make them happy, My students walk away with tools to not just play a musical instrument but a skill set strong enough to tackle any task. I am equally versed in performing on and teaching drum-set (Pop, Rock, Jazz, Latin etc...), all the percussion instruments of the orchestra (ask about my state of the art recording studio where all of these instruments live), and hand drums including congas, bongos, Djembe etc... Anything you can strike scrape or shake is available for study either online or at my studios.

After joining Barry Manilow’s band in 2003, he has appeared to sold out arenas all over the world and recorded Grammy nominated, Emmy winning and chart topping albums and DVDs. David received two Grammy nominations for both the classical and pop genres which include Absolute Ensemble’s Absolution and Manilow’s Gold album In The Swing of Christmas, both featuring The Matt Herskowitz Trio with whom he has traveled the world. The trio’s albums, Forget Me Not and Jerusalem Trilogy were nominated for the Felix and Juno Awards for “Best Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year”. David has worked with Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga, Kesha, Tony Bennett, Michael Buble, Andrea Bocelli, k.d. Lang, Leslie Odom Jr., The Killers, Paul Simon, Usher, Baby Face, Reba McEnt
I was honored to take a hand percussion lesson from David after hearing him perform with a major arena tour and a phenomenal jazz trio!. Although the setting for the lesson happened to be intimidating, David was able to help me focus on my strengths as a player and showed me how to build on them. He excels at building confidence and inspired me to integrate world percussion into my work as an elementary school teacher. I highly recommend him as an educator who knows how to motivate and bring out the best in students. I look forward to taking lessons online in the future!

David taught me since 2011. He is the most handsome, serious, responsible teacher I ever had. He helped me become a well-round musician rather than just a percussion player. To be honest, he is the most suitable teacher for me.

As an instructor, David exudes the perfect balance of amiability and intimidation. He will inspire you to work your absolute hardest without scaring you away. Personality-wise, he is that happy medium somewhere between Mr. Rogers and J.K. Simmons in Whiplash. I studied with David during my college years and 7+ years later I still utilize his concepts in everyday practice. There are many specific stories, ideas and exercises of his that have always stuck with me and come up quite often when I am working on something new or teaching a lesson or class of my own. Whether we were learning orchestral excerpts, 4-way independence, Bach fugues or just playing quarter notes with the metronome, I always left our lessons feeling highly motivated and anxious to practice. It's also great to have a teacher that can blow your mind with his own playing. It might be difficult for some teachers to get students into something like the tambourine or triangle but when he picked one up and casually played some insane rhythms and advanced techniques I was immediately inspired to learn to do the same. Not to mention his drum work on Matt Herskowitz's "Forget Me Not" - some of the things he does on that record still keep me up at night. I'm very grateful for my time as a student of David's and glad I can still learn from him as a friend and colleague!
"After having taken some lessons online with various instructors, it is clear to me that Clément has been my best experience. Learning drums online was nev
er easy but I am very busy so that's my only option, and he made sure that I always understood him clearly, sent me some exercises to practice after classes and always encouraged me and made me believe in myself. Still take lessons to this day and now I have my own band ! Thanks Clem :) !!"
"My son’s first lesson went really well! Mr. Charles was really accommodating - as we were running late and he patiently waited and completed our full firs
t session. My son is already looking to his next lesson."
"Renaud was a great teacher, full of enthusiasm for music and drumming, for passing on his expertise, a lot of fun to learn from and very patient. He was
very flexible with adjusting to my varying schedule."
"Stephen is a really good teacher. He is experienced, nice, and patient. Especially I am a Chinese, even my language is bad, he can also find the different
way to let me know how to study. Every class I feel happy."
"Both of my boys like him , he is very professional and has a lot of patience to teach my oldest son who has learning disability."
"Dave is very patient when dealing with new students. He has a good sense of humor, which is very relaxing to the tense, first time student. He thoroughl
y and easily explains every step and most of all patiently when asked the same question twice. Dave makes these lessons fun!"
Whether you've just started learning drums or you've been playing for years, there's a lot you can learn from watching some of the most famous drummers.
We know you’re listening to their music, but are you listening to their expertise? Take a page out of the books of these famous drummers, you will definitely learn a thing or two...
