Ear Training Lessons in Imperial. Amazing Teachers.

Experienced with over twenty years in ear training, available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation for ear training skills. Within the first couple of sessions you will be confident in your new found skill.

Being an arranger and doing transcribing work, I use my ears a lot. Learn how to hear the difference in different chord types, and how to transcribe simple melodies.

Usually supplemented with learning to read music and understand basic levels of music theory, ear training focuses most on connecting what you've been reading to what you're hearing. I use solfege (movable and fixed "do"), number systems, and I am amenable to other systems that you prefer. Let's improve your pitch and rhythm!

I have been teaching ear training since 1989.
There are three different levels:
Level one: grades four and below:
Basis theory provides students with a fundamental background in the development of coordination and rhythmic awareness, listening awareness, responses to pitch, dynamics and tempo, and emphasizes basic reading skills.
Level two: grades 5-8
This level involves study of scales, intervals, chords, melody harmonization, and form with appropriate analysis and creative work. The ear training levels stress the singing, aural recognition, and writing of all elements studied in the theory classes. The materials used are selected from music literature appropriate to the age level and degree of advancement of the students.
Level three: grades 9 and above
