I'm Ahmad a very enthusiastic musician. I started out teaching myself guitar at the age of 12. I moved to the U.S. in 2001 and studied music for 15 years receiving my B.M. and M.M in music and audio production at San Francisco State University. I then moved to Los Angeles then studied and trained with John Mayer, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, George Lynch and many others. I have performed hundreds of concerts in the U.S. as well in Europe and the Middle East with Artists such as Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Guns N Roses, Michael Angelo Batio, Ratt, Sammy Hagar, Dokken and many others. I ranked #1 in the Slash Guitar Center competition. I was in the "list of top 5 guitar players ever" according to The Examiner, also picked as one of the best guitarists of 2013 and 2014 consecutively in the Rockwell UnScene magazine, and ranked 3rd in the Steve Vai Sam Ash Best in Shred competition.

I find a student's strengths and weaknesses using various ways to encourage each student. I am very patient, ...

I never thought I would spend money on guitar lessons given the number of free tutorials you can find online. Even as frugal as I am (extremely), after my trial lesson I knew lessons with Ahmad would be worth it. Lessons with him are literally the only fun purchase I make room for in our budget.
If I hadn't signed up, I'd probably still be playing the same few songs, watching random videos and not actually improving. Instead, each week we choose songs I want to learn that also introduce valuable concepts and skills. After a lesson, you leave feeling motivated, encouraged, and excited to practice a new song! If you want to actually progress beyond beginner, take lessons with him!!! Can't recommend him enough!!!

I started lessons with Ahmad last year as a birthday present from my wife, and I can I look forward to my lessons as much now as I did then! Ahmad has provided the exact style of instruction I need and has continued to help me grow as a guitar player.

Ahmad is able to connect with his students to understand their goals and objectives with lessons. I appreciate how he is able to tailor his teaching style and method to each individual and adjust as needed. His knowledge of music is superb and his musical interests are wide. Ahmad can flex between jazz to classical guitar to the newest pop single as easily as changing radio stations.

As a classically trained musician he can not only play the music, but also knows the music theory. I look forward to my lessons every week, and I can't recommend Ahmad highly enough!

Ahmad is a fantastic instructor. He begins work by teaching proper technique with the type of music the student is interested in and goes from. He can work with interests from punk rock to classical, electric to acoustic, no theory to complex music theory. A very talented musician and an excellent, encouraging, patient instructor. My son was a music novice with an intense desire to learn and practice (2-4 hours a day). In just 18 months he advanced his music theory knowledge and skills so far that he was able to easily improvise jazz solos. You can't go wrong working with Ahmad!

As a professional concert artist, I have traveled the world performing and working with great musicians. My focus has not only been on the art and craft of performance, but on pedagogy and the process of learning - which is an art in and of itself! My lessons are compactly designed and and focus on the individual capacities of the student, not only on guitar playing, but also the skills necessary to be a complete musician: rhythm, harmony, theory, technique, interpretational prowess, a well-chosen, diverse repertoire, improvisation...

Having initially studied classical guitar, I have gone on to learn many different styles on many different instruments including multiple ethnic instruments and musical systems as well as historical instruments and performance practice (lute, vihuela, baroque guitar, etc).

I also compose and am delighted when students wish to learn theory and composition techniques.

About Polivios

As a professional concert artist and composer, I have been incredibly fortunate to travel the world, giving concerts in a wide variety of musical styles alongside some truly incredible artists. I am deeply passionate about teaching and the learning process. I truly feel that making art, and especi

Albino - I just wanted to say thanks again so much for everything you did for me, I'm having so much fun recording. I just finished up my first track and was able to include guitars, bass, piano, drum and vocals, I can't believe how quickly you taught me all of this stuff. This is a huge improvement from where I was a few months ago. Thank you again!!!

Albino is an amazing teacher and musician. He has the ability to inspire you musically and make you feel very comfortable while doing it. He has taught me many new approaches, tips, and tricks to music theory. He has helped me to be able to really understand why things are the way they are, and not just figure things out on paper like an equation. Definitely the best tutor I've ever had! I'd highly recommend him.

I teach nylon string classical guitar. I always start lessons with new students by getting to know what music they love to play and listen to, and I will develop my lessons accordingly. People often mistake “classical guitar” for any fingerstyle acoustic guitar. However, if your interest is indeed classical music, I will teach music of the medieval, renaissance, baroque, classical, romantic, and contemporary periods, of various composers from around the world, such as John Dowland, J.S. Bach, Fernando Sor, Francisco Tárrega, or Heitor Villa-Lobos.

If you have experience with classical guitar, I will ask you to demonstrate your skill level by playing a piece you know. If you are picking up guitar for the first time, the first lessons will be devoted to learning correct posture and technique, and you will begin playing your first scales, exercises, and open chords. After a few lessons, you will begin to learn to play single-line pieces. Classical guitar players also play with their ...

"I really enjoyed my lessons with Aidan. He is very knowledgeable about the guitar, a really nice guy, very easy going and it was so nice to take lessons in a home rather than a tiny music store studio. He explained things well and gave assignments that were appropriate for my level. Unfortunately I wasn't able to continue due to physical issues. I would recommend him 100%."

"I've been studying classical guitar with William (at his location) for almost 3 months now. Initially, he helped me find an instrument that would meet my needs and taught me how to care for it. I'd call him a connoisseur of classical acoustic guitars! He know how they should sound and has valuable guidance to provide for beginning guitarists like me who may not be as able to see or hear the differences. I'm glad I got his advice before making a commitment / investment on a particular instrument.

I am 46 and have a musical background (I already play both piano and trombone). William has very effectively adapted his teaching to fit with the skills I already have. In some cases that means speeding up and in other cases going back to basics to make sure I have the fundamentals down.

His knowledge of music and musical instruments enables him to very effectively describe to experienced musicians how the guitar is different from what they are used to and what they'll need to pay attention to.

William has been very focused on the details of correct technique, preferring to slow down and work specific things rather than moving on or cutting corners for the sake of getting through the method materials. If you want to learn how to play completely, correctly, efficiently and without hurting yourself William is your teacher.

One of the things I appreciate the most is William's patience. He's a stickler for correct technique so he doesn't let errors slide, but he corrects in a way that is both helpful and encouraging. There's no bit of guidance that he's given me that, when I put it into practice, doesn't dramatically help my progress. I've learned in a very short time to really listen to him. He knows what he's talking about.

I can wholeheartedly recommend William to anyone wanting to learn to play guitar. He's one of the best music instructors I've ever had!

I'm happy to answer anyone's questions on my experiences with William or this review."

"Ahmad is a gifted and patient instructor. I was looking for a jump-start towards learning to play guitar after years of false starts on my own and Ahmad was the perfect choice for me. It's rare for someone with his playing ability to also be able to impart knowledge to those with far less innate ability but Ahmad is able to relate to his students at their level (whatever it may be). Ahmad has a way of making his students understand that bad habits can be overcome over time and he has distilled his approach so that anyone he works with can improve. I'd recommend him for anyone looking to improve regardless of their skill level."

4 Essential Classic Rock Guitar Solos That Will Make You a Better Player

Learning to play other people's guitar solos is a great way to begin learning to write your own! Guitar teacher Nils B. shares his tips to learning four classic rock solos so you can develop your technique... An essential part of every musician's development is to imitate those who have already mastered their instrument. After settling on a song, give it a couple of close listens (preferably on headphones or a decent stereo), pick up a good transcription, then learn the rhythm parts, while …
