I am a guitarist of over 20 years and have played an instrument since I was six years old. I went to college for jazz and classical guitar to expand upon my rock and blues influence. Having first taken piano lessons at six years old, I added tenor saxophone at 10, and guitar at 14. I have 20 years of playing live in a band or for theater work. I believe a musician can learn from all instruments and I try to not just teach guitar, but music.

I am disciplined but fun. Music shouldn't have to be a chore. It should be a chance to challenge yourself and see what you might be capable of with a little work.

I use Berklee instructional books and the Guitar Grimoire as a foundation, but try to incorporate what each student listens to.

After six months, a student will be able to play some scales, arpeggios and ch

I started playing guitar seriously at the age of 12 and have been a guitar teacher for 22 years. My first influences were rock and metal. In my later teens, I became very interested in other music genres such as jazz, fusion and classical. I began my formal music education as a Classical Guitar performance major, ultimately obtaining a Masters Degree in Music Composition from the Queens College Aaron Copland School of Music.

The road I have taken with music has been paved with many unexpected twists and turns. Marco is one of the best teacher ever, I knew him way back in 1997 when I first came in to the state. At first, one of my friend was taking the session and he didn't mind me just staying and observed. After a few classes, I decided to go with Marco. As a new immigrant, language barrier is a problem. He 's patiently teach me from a to z. Making sure I understand everything. Although, I knew some of the basic of the guitar. I was surprisingly I could learn how to read music. Be able to improvise with him during lesson. You're not just learning how to play song/guitar. You learn music theory all in a packet. I still remember one day I was playing in the local shop in HK, people was whispering this guy is good. This is a good memory that I have until now.

I was a student of Marco's for about two-almost three years, and his excitement, love, desire, wisdom and passion for music and teaching is something that can't be described in words. Marco is a teacher that likes to have fun with whatever it is he may be teaching, but he is also very serious about it to make sure his students learn what they want in the best way possible to them. He will encourage his students if they need it and congratulate you every time you complete whatever it is you may have learned from him. I mostly learned techniques/songs from artist's such as Randy Rhoads, Angus Young, and much more from Marco. He will not let you down. He won't give up on you. I would gladly learn from him any time /any chance I'd get.

Marco has been teaching my son how to play the guitar since 2008. I feel that we were blessed having Marco as my son's first teacher. He really understood him and I was brought to tears at his very first recital when I was amazed how much he had learned in just a short few months. He is a senior in HS now and he has a love for the guitar and a passion to learn new music on his own.
Marco is an exceptional teacher who is very patient and understands his students and listens to their needs. He is extremely talented and anyone would be very lucky to have him as their music instructor. I recommend him highly. He is the best!

*** Lesson Details ***
As an instructor, I start students with the basics (open chords, major/minor and blues scales, general rhythm/timing, and beginner technique), and like to get at least a basic ability to sight read (music notation).

For younger students, I get them started on a beginner book for sight reading music and simple/basic songs to start with and build up their ability.

If a student is a little more capable, we start on a more modern/popular song they like. For my more advanced students, we get into music theory (cycle of fifths, harmony, chord language, etc.) and with some students we study specific genres.

My approach is one of building up a student's self confidence, and ultimately making learning fun. I take teaching seriously and value my student's time; so I work to get the most out of them, and to make their lessons worth while. All ages and levels are welcome!

Bill is a great teacher. We have covered rock lead, rock rhythm, finger picking, strumming patterns all while learning new songs and expanding my playing base. I had tried to self teach back in the 1990s so had some bad habits, Bill has worked with my to fix these so I can play more fluidly. Bill is very accommodating to what I want to learn while pushing the expansion of my ability. It's been a very enjoyable experience.

Bill is a wonderful Instructor and truly talented! He is very patient, specially when you have zero experience in Guitar before, that is what you expect from your instructor. My name is Perry and I am a professional classical, flamenco and electric guitarist performing and recording in the Dallas area. I studied with Robert Guthrie at SMU for many years, as well as Brad McLemore of "Soul Food Cafe" and professional jazz musician Chuck Pangburn at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. In addition, I have taken masterclasses w/ many professional guitarists in all styles such as the flamenco guitarist Miguel Antonio.

I am familiar with all styles. I teach using a foundation in classical/flamenco style and technique. I have found that for my own career as a recording artist in both the classical, acoustic and electric guitar fields that the classical/flamenco styles are the most useful for developing and training the hands to become a consummate professional.

I've been playing guitar for 25 years, and this has given me the time to study, perform, and perfect many styles of guitar playing.

I studied classical and flamenco guitar with Robert Guthrie for 4 years before and after my studies in the SMU program. I've also played in jazz and rock ensembles since the age of 14. I studied with Chuck Pangburn, pro jazz cat, and Brad McLemore, an indie rock songwriter, early on in my studies as an adolescent.

I encourage most students to learn to play on a classical or nylon-string guitar early on in order to develop proper technique, posture, sensitivity, and sensibility. I also encourage all students to learn to sight-read at a very early point in their studies. Once, this hurdle is cleared many other challenges are easily surpassed.

Presently, I am developing a new method which incorporates solfeggio, blues and popular music forms, and improvisational playing. I also am exploring the vanguard of new guitar technology such as the Moog Guitar, analog effects, and various guitar synthesizers.

I try to introduce an understanding of music theory early on so that students develop a full comprehension of not only the written language of music, but also the sonic-aural language of music.

Perry takes the time to explain flamenco and related styles deeply and thoroughly. He also provides detailed micro-scale feedback on hand/arm placement, orientation, range and which muscle groups to engage. But more than the technical, he has an awesome vibe and makes learning guitar quite an enjoyable experience.

Excellent Guitar Teacher

Within a month of lessons with Perry, my daughter was in love with the guitar! Perry is professional and great with kids! He couples the basics with discourse about genre, and is very encouraging! Perry helped guide us in the right guitar and accessories to get us set up before the lessons began, which was incredibly helpful. I teach all styles of guitar, as I have been in many different types of music situations: Soloist (Classical) Ensemble (Classical and Jazz) Lead and Rhythm (Various Rock and Roll bands) Songwriting and Recording. I am a people person that learned the guitar from many different sources. Most of my learning came from watching others and communicating with others. I like to learn about the people I am teaching so that I can better understand their needs as a musician. My education came as a practical necessity in order to get better as a teacher and performer, as well as make a living doing it. But, by no means do I preach the need to be "educated" but only to be a working, practical musician. I will surely go over the need to read music once the need becomes evident, enlighten you as to why it may be important to understand certain aspect
s of music as opposed to just "picking and grinning", IE learning only "By Ear." I do specialize in music theory, and have many students taking lessons simply for this excellent foundation for songwriting also.

I am a classically trained guitarist that performs both as a soloist and for ensemble in a wide variety of styles. I graduated in 1996 from Schoolcraft College with an Associates degree in Music performance, and then, studying under the tutelage of Brian Roberts went on to receive my Bachelor's degree in Guitar Performance with a secondary in Jazz from Wayne State University in 2004. While at Wayne State and along the way I've performed and participated in several masterclasses with renowned artists: William Kanengiser, John Holmquest, Philip Candelaria, Jason Vieaux, Scott Tennant, and Antigoni Goni. I have also completed the teacher requirements for books 1-a and 1-b for the Suzuki Guitar Institute.

Many of my classical guitar and electric guitar students have went on to study further at the collegiate level, some achieving scholarships. My most recent students are current Berklee school of music graduates now in a band called "Flight of Fire", recently opened for Bonjovi this past summer and are getting air time on local radio stations... well on their way to living the dream! …the bulk of my students become full time professional musicians.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am an extremely patient person who has been teaching for over 20 years. I am laid back so there will be no pressure. With my electric and steel string guitar students, I host a special "Jam Session" 2 - 3 times a year to which will be one of your goals to participate in. This includes playing with a drummer, bassist, singer and another guitar player (usually me) and having it recorded. This should serve as your motivation to practice. This really eliminates the need for me to pull out a "yardstick" and "smack" your hands over the knuckles when not practicing your scales as many old traditional teachers may have done!

At your first lesson I will talk with you and give you examples of music that is played with a Flat-Pick, or music that uses the Finger-Style technique. This will be an important process as it will dictate which direction you will go in as a musician and especially during our lessons.

For the most part, playing with a Flat-Pick is generally used with the electric guitar and with most mainstream styles of music like "Rock and Roll", "Blues", "Rock-a-Billy" "Funk", and playing with the Finger-Style technique is used in styles like "Classical" and "Folk." After a while, I will introduce you to the other style of playing as well, as most great guitar players use both techniques in their playing...musicians (guitarists) such as: “Jimmy Page“, “Brian Setzer”, “Stevie Ray Vaughan”, “Joe Satriani”, “Lindsey Buckingham”, “Paul McCartney”, “John Mayer”, and many, many more.

To make learning the guitar Fun, I make sure to incorporate your main interest(s) first. Whether it be learning your new favorite song(s), learning how to write a song, or just learning some basics that you can use for when sitting around the campfire. This will be intertwined with which style you choose to start with: Flat-Pick or Finger-Style.

Pending on the level that you are starting at, (beginner, intermediate, advanced) I will include tidbits of music theory that will be used in a consistent manner. These will usually be progressive, pending on your level. For example, the songs you learn will be written out in an easy to understand chart that will have the fundamental aspects of theory (IE, chords, key, and rhythm pattern) that all musicians should understand.

With Children learning with a Flat-Pick, I encourage the use of a basic guitar instruction book.
Level One (beginners) :

"Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book One" by Will Schmid.

I will also use as a substitute for Level One:
"Alfred's Basic Guitar Method" by Alfred's Publishing Co.

More advanced players who can read music already (and graduates from book one) I prefer;
"Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book Two"

With Adults, I will ask if learning to read music interests you. It is a vital part of a practicing musician, but sometimes your needs may require a more one dimensional approach as time may be of essence. Again, I learned by ear and educated myself later...so I understand the person who wants to hold off on reading right away.

Students who want to learn the Classical (Finger-Style) approach will be encouraged to purchase a beginners book that I use written by one of my first instructors/mentor. It is a very intuitive book that covers the technique in great detail yet is very easy to understand (along with my help.) I will provide means of acquiring this book at your first lesson.

Students who want to learn the Folk (Finger-Style) approach will usually start in the above book, unless your an adult who just wants to learn some basics.

At your first lesson I will also provide you with documentation that goes more in depth about the various styles of guitar as the above info is scaled down.

Reviews of my Book on Alfred Brazil: Guitar Atlas,  I love this series and this is the best of the six titles I have. Billy really knows his stuff; the analysis of time at the beginning is superb: something I now use in my teaching. This is definitely for intermediate and higher guitarists, but the pieces are worth the effort to get right, and the accompanying CD shows you what you are aiming for. This is as good as my other Brazilian guitar book (by Nelson Faria) and much more compact and easier to follow. Highly recommended!

This book is essential homework for students of Brazilian guitar. It is one of the best resources out there, along with Nelson Faria's "The Brazilian Guitar Book." The original etudes are not only instructional, but are nice pieces in their own right. An excellent value.

*** Lesson Details ***
I've taught all levels over 20 years both in NYC and Brazil. I work with the material that the student wants and also through recordings and charts introduce much music that the student might have been unfamiliar with. My lessons are catered to the individual. There is no obstacle anyone has that is too great to work through. My approach to rhythmic training has helped many. I have simple way of breaking down the guitar fingerboard which can used as a guide to learn harmony. I'll get you into the horizontal aspects of guitar, traveling across the neck, making music across one string as well, mastering the guitar in a small fret range - " vertical position playing".

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have guitar for the student, either electric or nylon. Cavaquinho students bring their instrument. First time students must bring their instrument so I can see what they are playing on.

I have been taking lessons with Billy since January 2015. I am a total beginner and I really think I have made the best choice ever to pick him as my teacher. Billy is an experienced guitar teacher and a professional player that knows great techniques for beginners. He has been teaching me basics of guitar in a smart way, and at each lesson I feel I learn something new and at the same time I can clearly see how much progress I have made since our first lesson. He has also been teaching me how to read music and tabs which proofed to be extremely useful every time I want to learn a new song by myself. Highly recommended!

I cannot recommend Billy enough. I studied jazz improvisation with Billy for three years, and later returned to study Brazilian guitar and Piedmont-style finger picking with him. I had been playing for more than twenty years when I started studying with him and he not only helped me improve my playing technically and creatively (on electric and nylon stringed guitars) but also expanded my knowledge of theory and helped me develop new approaches to composing and arranging. I am still working with the material he gave me and take lessons from him whenever my schedule allows.

I took Brazilian guitar lessons from Billy for several years. His method focuses on absorbing the many rhythms of Brazil and translating them from percussion instruments to the guitar. Much of his effort is devoted on achieving the elusive Brazilian swing, which non Brazilians need to learn. Billy is excellent in breaking down the rhythms and explaining them. He even has a book out on his method. He covers various Brazilian genres: choro, bossa nova, samba, baiao and more.
Billy also is an accomplished jazz, classical and flamenco guitarist with a thorough understanding of harmony and improvisation. He is very patient and has years of teaching and performance experience. You will be lucky to study with him!

I have been teaching the guitar since I graduated high school in 2011. Since studying classical guitar performance and pedagogy at the Peabody Conservatory, my teaching involves concepts explained in the Aaron Shearer method as well as ideas I've picked up through my own experiences. Guitar is an extremely difficult instrument to play well and I hope to make the experience as beneficial and rewarding as possible for students.

I am a classical guitarist who recently graduated from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD as a student of Ray Chester. I began my studies at Peabody with a classical and jazz guitar double major with a computer music composition minor. I have performed in masterclasses with Manuel Barrueco, Sharon Isbin, Andrew York, Lorenzo Micheli, Matteo Mela, Gohar Vardanyan, Adam Holzman, Marcin Dylla, Matt Palmer, Pablo Sainz Villegas, Thibaut Garcia, and others.

In 2014 and 2015, I was selected to perform in the Peabody Conservatory's "Thursday Noon Recital Series", where I performed "Impromptus" by Richard Rodney Bennett, and "Sonata III" by Manuel Ponce. In 2015, I commissioned and presented the world premiere of the guitar duo piece entitled "Sol Negro" by composer Peter Dayton.

For summer 2015, I was
granted a merit scholarship to Le Domaine Forget International Music Festival, where I studied with Bruce Holzman. I was a finalist and top prize winner in the 2015 ASU guitar competition. During my last year of study at Peabody, I also studied privately with Matt Palmer, who authored "The Virtuoso Guitarist: A New Approach to Fast Scales."

In 2016, I was granted a scholarship to study at the Aspen Music Festival under Sharon Isbin. I am now pursuing my masters degree under full scholarship at the Florida State University College of Music, where I am also a graduate teaching assistant to Bruce Holzman.

I play and teach classical, jazz, rock, acoustic, and have extensive knowledge of theory, ear training, and guitar technique/pedagogy/fretboard harmony.

Tom is a great teacher. I have been studying with him at FSU for a for a few months, and he has greatly improved my strength of sound. He has also helped me work on my musical expression.

Tom is a very good instructor. He is very patient and will work with you on whatever you need. He will find the weak spots in your playing and bring them to your attention. He also never hesitates to compliment you if you deserve it. Tom is also very good at helping you achieve a high level of musical expression. Overall Tom is a great teacher.

From 2013-2015 I taught group music classes through Soli Encore in Orange County, CA, in violin, guitar and K-2 creative music (Orff-based instruction with singing, xylophone, hand percussion and flutophone). The last two years of that position I managed the entire program including hiring teachers, writing curriculum, and teaching classes myself. I had also consistently held private violin, viola, and guitar students. In both violin and viola I saw my students move up chairs in their orchestras and excel in local, district and state honor orchestras. I sent students to great schools for music like Orange County School of the Arts and Ne
w England Conservatory.

As for my performance career, I have committed to always being a member of an orchestra, band or performing group of some sort because it's my passion and I endeavor to teach from personal experience. Over my last ten years in SoCal I performed with several groups including the Blackbird Music Project, Montage Orchestra and Symphony Irvine. My last year concluded my position as Principal viola of the Dana Point Symphony for four seasons. I was in two bands during my college years. With Galanis I was a part of several Western U.S. tours that took us through California, Arizona, Utah, Idaho and Montana. I have had the privilege of working with artists such as violinist Anne Marie Calhoun, Jimmy Hopper, Andy Grammer and Stevie Nicks. Some of the larger productions I have been a part of include appearances on TV shows like Melrose Place and the Bachelorette, and performances for former President G.W. Bush and at the Governor's Ball for the Academy Awards.

My performance career continues to grow here on the East Coast, where I have lived since August 2015. I have been a member of the McLean Orchestra and have been added to rosters for the Alexandria Symphony, Arlington Philharmonic and Washington Sinfonietta. I currently hold a Bachelor's of Music in Viola Performance from Azusa Pacific University where I studied with Robert Becker, founder of the American String Quartet with a BM and MM in Viola Performance from Juilliard. I am now enrolled as a graduate assistant for my Master's of Music in Viola Performance at the University of Delaware.

When I'm not making music I'm running far, studying nutrition, cooking or spending time with my beloved friends and family!

I had the privilege of studying guitar under Michael for over 10 years, starting when I was 10-years-old. I am now 27, and if it weren't for his teaching, I would not be the musician I am today. He is a phenomenal instructor and very advanced in his musicianship and understanding of music theory.

Michael is also a great guy who became a friend and mentor to me growing up. He is very patient and encouraging! If you are looking to learn how to play guitar (jazz, classical, rock, etc.), then I would recommend Michael Moore 10/10!!!!!
