Using a Kodaly based approach, students will learn to identify melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic elements and ultimately to be able to read music from written notation.

Ear training encompasses perceiving how sounds are moving so that it can be sung, notated, or played back. Conversely, training the ear enables one to mentally hear notated music in advance of playing it. This valuable skill speeds all aspects of musical learning.

Ever since I took Music Theory in high school, I have absolutely loved ear training. I am well versed in singing both solfege and the number system. I can train interval recognition, chords, sight singing, melodic transcription and more at a high level.

About Quentin

I go to the University of Georgia for Double Bass Performance. I've spent about 11 years learning and sharing everything I can about this wonderfully complex instrument. So many genres of music can be played on the double bass, and once you add my secondary instrument, the bass guitar, you're a nece

I was nervous to start and Quentin quickly put me at ease as a student. I am an adult learner who can read music and has basic understanding of piano and wanted to move to the next level. He asked the right questions and shaped lessons and practice time which have proven extremely helpful. I look forward to more lessons and can easily recommend his lessons.

Ear Training is an important lesson for those looking to take music to the next level. It's also good for dance students, or vocalists looking to expand their knowledge. This course covers an intro to Ear Training best practices, learning about music notes and their values, listening and practicing the ability to recognize time signatures, note memorization, and music memory. We will practice hearing and counting and recognizing time signatures, Key signatures and take a deep dive into the history and tempo structures of all genres of music as well as taking a look at how genres developed throughout history! This is a really fun class.
Ear Training is available for all instruments and is also a great class for those who can not play an instrument but want to learn more about how music works in our society. This class is vital for those students interested in songwriting or composition.

About Rachel

I started my musical path in a Ballet Studio. I fell in love with the crackle of the vinyl record playing as I learned to listen and dance with the rhythm. I started playing the guitar when I was in elementary and took classical lessons until I was a teenager. I really enjoy the art of practice

Developing our ears is a crucial part of nurturing our musicianship. Having the ability to hear specific aspects of music allows us to strengthen our understand and appreciation of music.

Like my trombone lessons, ear training lessons will start by solidifying (or reviewing) fundamentals. Once established, we will build upon those fundamental skills to further develop our musical ear.

I could tell Paul definitely knew all the tiny details about mastering the trombone since the first lesson. He recognized what I needed to improve upon in order to reach my goals in a timely manner, armed me with the tools to do so, and I have no doubt that I will achieve those goals as the lessons progress.

Stephen's a great instructor both from a technical and personable perspective.

He's got a cornucopia of musical knowledge that's evident from how speaks to how he teaches. If you like any film score, chances are he knows how to play it.

Speaking as a beginner, I can say he's been very patient and knows a bunch of exercises and books to learn everything thing from theory to practical pieces to finger exercises.

He provides constructive guidance on what you're doing wrong, and I'm happy to see myself improve under his tutorage. (oh and if you're a sci-fi fan, you'll have a lot in common with him)

"I needed help singing in the church choir. Rebekah was amazing and personally took the time to teach me and work with me to help me to be able to sing in the choir on Christmas Eve. She was very patient and never criticized, but gently taught me to sing various styles of notes. I'm not a musical person, so I can't really get the terminology right, but she helped me to be able to located the different notes in the hymnal as I was singing. On Christmas Eve, with Rebekah's lessons, I accomplished what we had set out to do and was able to sing in the Christmas Eve service.

I've also known Rebekah personally for a long time now. She is full of personality and is exciting to be around. She is very professional and kind to all of her students. She is patient, considerate, and her students thrive under her supervision. I would highly recommend anyone to chose Rebekah as their personal instructor and not only for themselves, but for their children as well."
