Just like a classical approach on piano, I believe that a similar approach on guitar is the best method. It helps establish good technical foundations, it gets you playing better, sooner and it also helps remove the mystery from some aspects of music.
A classical guitar approach takes lots of patience, but is very rewarding. Studying from a method book such as the “Berklee Guitar Method” is the first step. Then, learning to play Bach and other early composers is next. Playing in all major and minor keys and learning solo pieces is a long term goal.

I studied jazz guitar with Derek DiCenzo at Ohio State University, and have performed extensively in the genres of rock, blues, country, and classical music.
Since 1998, I have taught as many as forty private students per week, many of whom have gone on to pursue the instrument through college, conservatory, and performance.

Classical guitar is my first love and what brought me into the world of music. I began teaching in 2006 and have continually sought to improve my teaching over the years. When learning classical guitar (or any instrument) there are many approaches. Ideally, I believe that it is best for students to learn all of the keys to playing (physical technique, musical understand, a sense a rhythm and collaborative abilities and much more) before they jump into learning lots of pieces.
...But let's be honest, most of us don't have the patience for that. I know I don't. I want to make sure that you get all of the key elements to play the way that you want, but I know that you want to learn guitar because of the music! So even if you've never played an instrument before, it's my goal to have you playing music in the first lesson. From that point, we'll learn more pieces, and we'll continually add new musical elements so that you get an understand of not just how to put your fingers on the ...

I have also been working on music theory and basic guitar chords - Ahmad has helped guide me to a better understanding and technical proficiency.
Lessons are conducted in a friendly and supportive way and his positive attitude plays a vital role in motivating me to keep working at guitar. I think no matter what your guitar goals are, Ahmad can help you move improve and keep taking it to the next level."

As someone who knew nothing about playing/reading music of any sort, I find myself recognizing and playing a few chords and notes just after about 10 classes! All thanks to John. I agree with the other reviewer that he truly has the patience of a saint. He is very laid back and helps me learn at my own pace while enjoying myself throughout the process irrespective of how much practice I put in. Whole heartedly recommend John for learning the guitar. Thanks very much John. You are the best!"
