Kevin J. has been writing, recording, and playing music for over 25 years. Music is meant to be fun and it is his goal to help others enjoy music. He has been a teacher for 11 years and has composed hundreds of songs. He is passionate about teaching his students the songs they want to learn, no matter the difficulty. He specialized in guitar, drums, and song writing.

I'm Lucas, a professional drummer and educator in Chicago. I'm passionate about playing music and am so grateful that I get to make a living doing what I love. I played drum set with Blue Man Group, I regularly perform at the top jazz clubs in Chicago, and I've toured the country with indie bands. I'm also a high school percussion ensemble director and college drum set teacher, so I have a broad range of experiences to pull from as I craft a customized plan to help you meet your drumming goals.

I started playing the drums in my hometown of Tucson, AZ at 9 years old, following in my mom’s footsteps, who played drums at my church. It wasn’t long before I started playing in punk bands, jazz groups, and youth orchestras. I moved to the Midwest to study music at Northern Illinois University, and eventually went on to earn a master's degree at DePaul University. I have 17 years experience performing drum set, hand drums, mallets and many other percussion instruments. I received a Bachelor's in Music for Percussion Performance and Music Education from the Sacramento State School of Music and I received my Master's in Music for Percussion Performance from the University of Nevada, Reno. I have experience teaching in public schools (high school and middle school levels), the collegiate level, music camps, and I have maintained a private studio for over two years. I have a method of teaching based on what you want to learn while also going over technique, posture, musicianship and music theory. My teaching is based entirely on the student as many people have different ways of learning so I do my best to make myself clear. My goal is to make lessons fun and informative, so let's enjoy the journey of making music!

As a Beginners course, this is suitable for complete beginners who have never played drums before. Its also helpful for self-taught drummers who want to go through all the basics and fill in any gaps in their playing and improve their technique.

Course Objectives:
Develop a full range of beats, rhythms, fills and breaks
Execute Single strokes, double strokes and paradiddles
Establish Good posture, grip, sticking and hi hat technique
Learn to play with a click and develop a better sense of timing
Understand & execute Techniques for playing songs in a contemporary style

How to choose and tune a drum kit

Play Their first ever rhythm and break

I began playing drums/percussion at the age of 10 and have been playing for over 20 years. I love playing and teaching all types of styles of music, especially jazz, rock, funk, Latin, and country. Within the first few lessons, I will provide you with tips on technique, how to practice, and how to listen to music in a new way. You will be grooving in no time!
