I studied solfeggio as a kid and in college. Can practice dictations, harmony exercises etc.

About Anastasia

After Anastasia’s Carnegie Hall Debut in 2006, the New York Concert Review wrote: "For a critic, hearing a new pianist with a truly warm, luscious tone is like breathing in the scent of jasmine blooming - a pleasure to be recalled again and again - and so I'm happy to report that from the first not

As an adult beginner, I chose Anastasia for more personalized instruction, especially in technique, after learning the basics through community center group lessons. I have not continued only because another equally well-qualified instructor who lives close by, within walking distance, has become available. I am very pleased with the lessons and pointers that I have received. Anastasia is professional, encouraging, and friendly. An especially helpful part of her instruction is the set of comments and suggestions that she writes down to guide practice between lessons. If the neighbor instructor does not work out, I’ll be back.

My 5 year old takes classes with her. She is a very shy and anxious child. Ms Paniyeva has been very patient and accommodating. She can read and play in 5 months. I can’t believe her progress. I think we were very lucky to find her. My daughter calls her always Smiling.

I'm satisfied with the lessons I took, even though seven months of piano still not enough.

I learned a lot in seven months with Liana. I was pleased to have her, but I'm still slow. I think I need six months more in order to gain enough speed. Anyway, Liana is a good instructor to start with. She encourages and leaves you with no fear.

Ah, ear training. Sounds scary, is actually a ton of fun. I love it. I do it with all my students, with my mum, with my 6 month old daughter. If you are already serious about music, ear training will deepen your ability to hear and respond, compose and improvise. If you are a regular human, ear training will open your mind and sharpen it. Better than Sudoku!

I'm a complete newbie and Indigo has been a great instructor for helping to get me going! I appreciate that she brings in some basic music theory from the get-go so that you have a basis for understanding / navigating the instrument. I appreciate her patience and emphasis on slowing down and practicing with consistency.

Indigo is a fantastic teacher! I've taken lessons with Indigo both online (recently) and in-person (when I used to live in NYC). Indigo's teaching style really resonated with me - she provides incredible support and encouragement for beginners and her instruction has always helped me understand the weird nuances of singing and how to unlock my voice. She has also helped me with more advanced music theory/guitar during lesson to compliment the singing and help with songwriting. She also makes the online format work really well (which I can't imagine is easy) and I've always felt like the online lessons were as valuable/productive as the in-person lessons I took before I moved.

Throughout my career as a musician and educator, I have learned/taught moveable and moveable do techniques, and solfege. Plus, as a historical horn player, I rely on my skills as a musician to identify tonic as I transpose into multiple keys. My listening skills curriculum uses real songs, spanning from early baroque to yesterday's top hits, where students and I listen to map out the progression of the bass line. Singing, and then memorizing the sounds in the head are the best practices! I use Ottoman books for sight singing training, and then work on chord progression skeletons based on the set rules of music theory.

Hi there! My name is Annie. I am an active performer, and educator based in Iowa City, IA. I hold a Master’s degree in Horn Performance, with an Early Music Minor, at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. "Annie gave our (University of Iowa) a terrific hour-long presentation on the history and technique of the natural horn. It was excellent, engaging, and informative in every respect, a demonstration of the skill and knowledge of a real professional. The students greatly profited from her expertise, and I am plotting to have her back soon to teach us more. She is a wonderful player and teacher!”
Sherri
We hired Annie to teach private French Horn lessons to our daughter after the school year was cut short due to the pandemic. After just a month of lessons, she was playing with more confidence, enthusiastic about practicing(!), and expressing pride in her progress. Annie has excellent communication skills, is a natural at teaching kids even in the virtual (via Zoom) environment, and takes a sincere interest in her students’ development and overall well-being. Best money we’ve spent on music yet!

Learning how to hear is one of the most important parts of becoming a musician. I struggled with ear training initially -- this means I know how to help you improve! I have a plethora of techniques, exercises, and resources to help you learn to transcribe melodies and chords, and learn exactly what those intervals are you're hearing. Ear training also does wonders for your playing or singing. It helps with intonation, phrasing, and technique, and makes learning new music easier! Ear training, sight-singing, and music theory are all intertwined, and I will include all of those in our lessons to enhance your ear training, making you the best musician possible!

"Chris is an awesome teacher! I have been taking lessons with Chris for a few months. I had spent quite an extended period studying with other instructors but Chris is still helping develop me to a better musician and guitar player. Have been working on some ear training stuff that other instructors maybe would not have taken the time to work with me on! Working on hearing and playing the divided sky by phish right now not an easy piece of music. Also working on more phrasing and country blues licks and theory. I would definitely recommend Chris to anyone👍🎸"
