Experienced voice teacher of over 20 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of technique including breathing and exercises designed to improve strength, power, and range while decreasing tension in the jaw, face and throat. I specialize in teaching students to relax and to not sing from the throat and chest. For non singers I can focus solely on ear training and pitch matching which is often necessary for auditions and performing on other instruments as well as voice.
I graduated from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, GA with a BA in Music Education, voice principal. During my years in public schools I taught a variety of age ranges and subjects including kindergarten general music, beginning band, high school chorus, and remedial middle school English and language arts. I have professional Yoga training and enjoy incorporating aspects of that when tutoring adult, middle school, high school, and elementary students. I also use Yoga, brain respiration and other healing techniques in my lessons as needed.
I was a member of The William Baker Festival Singers and Summer Singers since 2003 before becoming Media Relation Coordinator in 2006 and Assistant to the Music Director in 2008 and left the group in July of 2009 to pursue other musical ventures.

As a teacher, Cyndi has taught "Vocal Technique" to students of all ages ranging from 8-70 for the past 25 years. She was Youth and Young Adult Music Director for Crenshaw Christian Center, one of the largest mega churches in America, as well as A&R for their record label. As a songwriter/producer/artist developer on staff for 12 years, she produced numerous CD
projects. Her song, "The Power of Faith," that she wrote for the Ever Increasing Faith broadcast can be heard all over the world daily on both television and radio. Because of her meticulous instruction, many of her students have gone on to obtain professional careers in the entertainment and music industry. Keisha Renee is currently a The Voice 2017 Team Blake competitor and has been back up singer and opener for the amazing R & B singer, JoJo. Keisha has also sang backups on the P Diddy 2016 Bad Boy reunion tour, she's also a member of Team Minaj as Nicki Minaj's main back up singer as well as numberous others. Julia Michaels, is currently one of America's leading songwriter/vocalist having sold 50 million copies of her songs worldwide and her newest single "Issues" has topped the Billboard chart. Julia was also the first American to ever sing for the closing ceremonies of the 2016 Olympics and has been nominated for MTV, Billboard and Grammy Awards! Jaden Michaels (Julia's sister) is currently topping the Radio Disney country charts with her latest singles for 2019, "Behave" and" Making Up". Amber Riley, another of her students, was a main cast member playing "Mercedes" on the 10 year Gplden Globe, Award winning TV show, "Glee" and has played the lead role of "Effie" on the Broadway musical, "Dream Girls" where she won the 2018 Olivier Award.
As a teacher, I get immense satisfaction from seeing my students excel and fly using the techniques and tools that I have taught them," Cyndi says beaming with pride. Cyndi's training began at age 8 where she studied classical piano for 6 years. By age 15, she and her brother released their first independent single which did reasonably well locally. By age 19, while studying music at Ohio University, she along with her brother won "Right On" magazine's nationwide talent search and were offered two major recording contracts. She decided to sign with Philadelphia International Records under the auspices of Grammy Award winning producer, Thom Bell (who was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame). She studied under Thom Bell and it was there that she learned the art of record production. She also studied vocal production under legendary Grammy Award winning producer, Hal Davis (Jackson five fame). Cyndi was taught proper vocal technique by vocal trainer to the stars, Seth Riggs and continued her private studies learning the vocal techniques of the great Alan Linquist. Her teaching style has subsequently morphed into a combination of all these great inspirational instructors.
As a teacher, Cyndi is kind, patient and extremely enthusiastic when it comes to instructing her students. Her students always see her as their friend and one who they know will bring out the best in them and desires that they grow to their fullest potential.

*** Specialties *** My style of vocal training concentrates on singing in the 'Ng" position and using cuperto as the primary way to produce more tone with less effort. I also train my students to breath properly utilizing the lower lumbar area along with breathing from their diaphragm. I generally train vocal students in all genres of music and I stress stage presence in conjunction with proper vocal technique.
Not everyone is born with perfect pitch, but in my informed opinion, everyone can improve how well they hear pitches and intervals to help in their playing. Cello and Violin, which I also teach, requires some degree of interval training in order to shift. Other instruments such as flute which I also teach, can benefit from ear training to help with intonation and improvisation.
Having grown up in a musical family with her mother a professional violinist, Hallie has been exposed to the joys of music since childhood. She learned how to play Suzuki piano at the age of three, and later percussion and string instruments from when I was six years old, and has playing and making the world more beautiful ever since, first attending Interlochen Arts Academy, then later went to Prague Conservatory and Czech Budweiss Conservatory. She has played professionally with the Prague Film Orchestra, and even more recently has been a teacher for the Flutes and Strings classes at Unison World School in Dehradun, India.
Currently Hallie is the teacher for the strings program at Sunlake Academy of Math and Science, a teacher for her own private studio based in Tampa, FL, as well as a freelance musician.
*** Lesson Details ***
My approach to teaching varies with the age level of each student. With younger students, imitation is often one of the best methods of learning and I prefer the Suzuki method for students up to age 8, especially with strings. For older children and adults, learning music notation and basic music theory for a full understanding of musical language are more important to get them to the level where they can learn any music that they want to play for fun. For students who wish to excel in their school band, a more practical approach with technique specific warm-ups and exercises seems to be the best in general.
*** Studio Equipment *** The In-Studio lessons are taught in the living room which includes music stands, sheet music, whiteboard, video recording equipment and microphone, and seating for parents/students. No pets. Parking in driveway. Siblings are welcome.

I have played and studied music for 30 years, performing internationally and appearing with groups on local and national radio and television, and have had the good fortune to share the stage and even record with some very talented individuals!

I began my violin studies at age 9, with my public school string program. I continued through high school and into college, playing and singing with auditioned district ensembles, school musicals, and chamber choirs, coming in as runner up in my high school's concerto competition, landing a full-tuition scholarship, and performing twice in Carnegie Hall. I studied opera, vocal pedagogy, and passed my piano proficiency exam from the advanced class.
In 2003, I earned my violin performance degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and soon after, joined the Kansas City-based Celtic folk group, Tullamore. I have enjoyed 13 seasons with this lauded regional group, playing countless esteemed Celtic festivals across the country and embarking on five international tours of Ireland and Scotland, as well as a Caribbean cruise hosted for our fans. Our sixth international tour is scheduled for 2019 in Scotland.
In 2014, I relocated to Hampton, Virginia, where I auditioned for the Hampton Roads Philharmonic, and currently play as a first violinist.
From 2015-2018, I had the joy of fiddling and singing with Brackish Water Jamboree, an award-winning Americana band, featured on NPR's Blue Plate Special and Out of the Box series with Paul Shugrue, and host of the NorFOLK Festival.
Throughout this time, I have enjoyed teaching a full and enriching music studio of students: hosting recitals, open mics, and ensemble rehearsals, and watching students achieve goals they didn't know were even possible. I continue to teach online via Skype, Zoom, and TakeLessons Classroom, and I look forward to working with you to accomplish your own musical aspirations!

Ear Training is a vital skill for all musicians. We'll explore different scales (major, minor, modes, pentatonic, octatonic, etc), chords, sight singing, and more. I rely heavily on songs that are commonly known (lullabys, pop songs, the students own musical preference) to teach dictation, chord recognition, interval recognition, and functional pitch recognition.
Ear training is a must for aspiring musicians of any instrument.

I have been looking for somebody to help write and notate my songs. I went to some producers and music teachers for help with my songs. I wish I would have to run into Carlos back then. Carlos is very knowledgeable about songwriting and just music in general. He takes his time to always listen to my ideas and then helps me organize my melodies and chords. He even helps me write my songs down. I am glad I am working with him and would like to recommend Carlos to any songwriter.
