Harp:
A stringed musical instrument that has a number of individual strings running at an angle to its soundboard; the strings are plucked with the fingers. Harps have been known since antiquity in Asia, Africa and Europe, dating back at least as early as 3500 BC. The instrument had great popularity in Europe during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, where it evolved into a wide range of variants with new technologies, and was disseminated to Europe's colonies, finding particular popularity in Latin America. We will start by learning how to tune, seating and hand/plucking placement. I have an easy to follow technique where you will learn the strings, notes, how to read music, rhythms, plucking techniques, and songs. As the student advances theory and soloing will be incorporated.

Karen is an incredibly skillful teacher. She is very passionate about music and it easy to be comfortable with her. She shares her training and knowledge very clearly. The vocal exercises seem very unique and holistic for body and voice health. She is very encouraging, caring, and soul-uplifting. I feel like I have a new connection with my voice and all that is connected to using it... as an instrument and the journey is only just starting. 45 minutes went by so fast. I am looking forward to my next lessons.

I thought I wanted to take viola lessons. Then I read her website and I realized that she might be able to help me get my voice back! I thought there was no hope ever. She has been extremely generous with her time, and I haven't seen her yet, but I'm not buying the viola I was planning on buying. I play cello, and piano still, but I am going to see if she can help me with my voice. She sounds incredible. I never dreamed that I could even have HOPE like this!

I am a harpist at heart since the day I set my eyes on this angelic instrument at the age of 12. Every sound made is immediately comforting and soothing. My experience ranges from teaching children and adults of all backgrounds. I founded Harp4all Music Conservatory and have regular harp ensemble practices and recitals. I teach from several method books including Harp Olympics and Fun From the First. My teachers include Susan McDonald, Elizabeth Richter, Ellie Choate. I have been teaching harp for over 10 years. I teach with a strong emphasis in technique, employing mostly Salzedo styles with a few French styles in hand and arm position.

I have a series of books from which I teach for all ages, all abilities. At any point I encourage the student to learn songs they like, creating an enriched atmosphere of learning.

I teach music theory, exercises, and sight-reading alongside our weekly studies of pieces and songs. I will help you find the right materials so you can enjoy your lessons!

It is my goal to have students perform pieces with comfort, strength and for memory.

My teaching philosophy is to cultivate a love for music while learning the best way to approach the instrument and learning how to play well. Like any good goal, hard work and patience are needed, but ultimately love and the pursuit of making music.

About Elizabeth

Elizabeth L. has studied music from the age of six. At nine, she began taking harp lessons with Elizabeth Motter, formerly of the Illinois Symphony and currently of the Cincinnati Symphony. Elizabeth spent many summers furthering her studies at various harp camps around the world. In the summer

Caitie
My daughter Caitie very much enjoyed her harp lesson with Elizabeth last week. She usually detests “online lessons” primarily because the instructor has not spent enough time tailoring his or her didactic teaching methods to the specific limitations and practicalities of the computer camera and the internet transmission ability. I was actually shocked (happily) when she boasted how talented Elizabeth is in her online teaching abilities. She stated that “WOW! She is a true professional - she truly understands how to teach online by articulating and directing very clearly.”
Priscilla Marotta
Articulate and enthusiastic teacher. Elizabeth is invested in meeting each student’s goals. She is pleasant and warm.

I can't recommend lessons with Tori highly enough!

I've been obsessed with oil painting, and every kind of 2D visual art, for as long as I can remember, but I never really believed in myself to do it until I worked with Tori.

My drawing, painting, and even my 3D work progressed more, and more quickly, working with Tori than they had in years

Thank you Tori!!!!
Lisa
My three boys (ages 11-15) loved working with Tori. We still have the block print-making pieces, paintings and charcoal drawings displayed in our kitchen. Their favorite project was creating plaster casts of their own faces. Tori is very thoughtful, patient and has a great zen energy. I highly recommend Tori!

"Liza is extremely flexible and patient. She has tailored each lesson to my specific needs and has given me tools I needed to make me a better harp player. She chooses pieces that challenge me and has allowed me to chose from several different pieces/styles that I would enjoy learning, too. If I had to miss a lesson for some reason she went above-and-beyond to accommodate a make-up lesson. She has always been very encouraging and I have loved having her has my harp teacher! --Olivia (14 years old)"
