    About Tim G.

    4.8
    (47)
Unlike other teachers that teach multiple instruments and add harmonica to their list, Tim's sole focus and expertise is the harmonica! Tim began playing harmonica at the age of thirteen. In addition to the guidance and nurturing he received from his musical family, Tim studied with harmonica greats Cary Bell and Jerry Portnoy. He also completed courses in music while earning his bachelor’s degree with honors from Kent State University in Ohio. In addition to harmonica, Tim is a fine singer, songwriter and guitarist. An expert blues player, he is also accomplished in the folk, rock and country genres. Before moving to Nashville in 2015, Tim was regarded as one of the finest harmonica players in New England.

On my lesson today, we discussed using a volume adapter for a voice microphone. It plugs into the microphone and then the XLR cable plugs into the adapter. This allow you to sing and then reduce the volume and hold the diatonic harp right against the microphone and use your hands to control the sound. You need to remember to turn the volume up after your solo, so some practice is needed. This works like a typical harp microphone and you don't need to change the volume on the PA. That knowledge was a game changer for me. Harp Man Dave

Tim Gartland has helped me to learn the chromatic harmonica and the major and blues scales over the past 6 months. This has been a real game changer for me since I have been focusing on just the diatonic harp. I would highly recommend taking lessons from Tim if you want to learn the harmonica and impress your friends and family. Harpman Dave
