Learn the fundamentals of technique, theory, reading, memorization and expression. Many students will benefit from working with Aaron Shearer's inovative concepts and materials. Others will strengthen reading and interpretive skills through working with great works by masters such as Bach, Barrios, Tarrega and Brouwer. Many of my students have successfully prepared for auditions at universities and conservatories, but older beginners and hobbyist are welcome too.

About Luke
I majored in music at Berea College, then went on to The University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where I completed a Masters degree in guitar performance and served as the graduate assistant to the guitar department.

For the past ten years I have earned a living performing and teaching guitar. I am a certified Suzuki instructor, and I've held teaching positions at Winston Salem State University and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, along with at least half a dozen other schools and institutions. I've been featured on other artists' records, and received a grant to release an album of my own songs. I regularly perform in a wide variety of bands and ensembles.

I love to teach, and over the years I have taught hundreds, maybe even thousands of lessons. Having learned something from each and every one
of my students, I am now at a point where I excel at honing in on the individual interests and learning styles of whoever comes to me for help. There are many ways to learn guitar. The best one is the one that engages and inspires you the most. That said, there are also music fundamentals that we all need to know. My joy as a teacher lies in finding a way for you to master the fundamentals while at the same time following your personal bliss and intuition. We plot the course together, combining your curiosity and enthusiasm with my years of experience.

I also love working with kids. While they are having fun jamming, I discretely provide them with the technique and musicianship they'll need to excel in any musical environment, whether it's conservatory study or playing in a great band.

*** Lesson Details ***
Your enthusiasm is the key to your success, so my lessons are tailored to the interests and abilities of each student. That said, my classical background and dedication to effective teaching inform everything I do.

All of my students learn Music Fundamentals:
-Technique (habits of movement)
-Theory (how music works)
-Aural skills (hearing pitches, chords and rhythms clearly)

Many of my students use books. There are hundreds of great books these days, and I will work with students from any book they choose. Listed here are the books I regularly use. They all deliver great results:

-Aaron Shearer "Leaning The Classic Guitar"
-Will Schmidt and Greg Koch "The Hal Leonard Method"
-Joe Pecoraro "Read This First"
-David Oaks "Music Reading For Guitar"
-William Leavitt "A Modern Method For Guitar"
-Mateo Carcassi "Melodic and Progressive Studies, Opus 60"
-Leo Brouwer "Simple Studies"

Many of my students prefer to work without a book, and that is a great option too. These students learn scales, chords and theory and develop a repertoire of songs. I will show you how to play any song you'd like to learn. You can also work on writing your own songs or compositions, or improvising in any context, be it jazz, blues, Indian raga or flamenco.

Singing is also encouraged!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home studio: music stands, extensive library of all kinds of music, great sound system and ability to stream any song, several guitars, recording equipment, footstools, keyboard and percussion instruments.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I'll bring my guitar and books, accessories as needed.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in versatility. I regularly play gigs doing classical, jazz, blues, rock, pop, and world music. All of these genres have a place in my heart, and I've devoted years to learning to play and teach them well.

I am equally polyamorous when it comes to the various things musicians do. I love to sing pop songs, dissect jazz lines, delve into expressive groupings with classical pieces, drill scales and arpeggios, you name it. Reading, improvising, composing and notating, transcribing and playing by ear, memorization, classical technique, blues technique, bluegrass technique, theoretical analysis... hit me up for any of that, or whatever else interests you.

Damien is extremely professional and does an excellent job explaining the fundamentals. As Albert Einstein said, "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough." Damien has a way of explaining concepts so they are easily understood and retained, even for more complex subjects.

Playing and teaching the guitar is my life's biggest passion. I began playing guitar in highschool in a rock band, and fell in love with the instrument. Since then I decided to major in music, became obsessed with classical guitar, and now I'm teaching classical guitar at UNLV while pursuing a doctorate of music there.

I teach all styles though, and I aim to help my students reach whatever goals with music they may have. I also have a good knowledge of music theory, something that's helpful in all musical endeavors. I'm also very good for beginners, as I can ensure no technical bad habits are developed.

About Michael
I moved to Las Vegas in August to pursue a doctorate of music in guitar performance. I'm also teaching at UNLV part time, and want to expand my teaching into the local community. I've been teaching for many years now, at universities, music stores and private in-home lessons like I'm offering on this site.

I aim to give my students the skills to pursue whatever they would like on the guitar. I'm a professional classical guitarist, but I got my start playing rock and roll and am comfortable teaching a variety of genres if the student wants to learn a specific style. I feel I am a great teacher for total beginners as well, I make sure the student has a rounded approach and avoids developing bad habits.

I met fellow classical guitarist, Michael, a few years back. I remembered him for his fun personality, stellar performance, and friendliness. Now that he is my classmate, I've gotten to know him better as a person and guitar player. I can say he is same in personality and friendliness as when I met him a few years ago, and his performances ROCK!

I sat in on every lesson Michael gave my daughter, who had not studied guitar before. He uses the time effectively, balancing sight reading, repertoire development, music theory (which he presents in very practical and immediately useful ways), and at all times instilling the technique necessary to sustain rapid progress. My daughter really enjoyed studying with him, and I really enjoyed watching her go from a blank slate to a guitarist you want to listen to. I completely and unreservedly endorse this teacher.

I have my Bachelor's in Music Education. Before attending Hartt College, I had played guitar for 12 years and studied Classical guitar prior to attending. During my time at Hartt, I maintained my studies of Classical Guitar and continued to teach and play once I graduated.

About Bob
Take Guitar or Bass Guitar lessons from an experienced teacher and Hartt College graduate. In person one on one private lessons or webcam lessons if that is more convenient. Your lessons will be customized for what you want to learn. Rock, Blues, Folk, Country, Classical, Music Theory, chord playing, lead guitar, music reading, songwriting etc. Lessons can be as easy or challenging as you like depending on your goals. If you are new to guitar or bass guitar, if you tried playing guitar before and it didn't work out, or if you have been away for awhile, I'll do my best to make it a rewarding experience. If you have been playing for many years but feel stuck in a rut, I can get you out of it and teach you things you have wanted to learn. Great teaching environment. I also have free supplementary lesson videos available here (at takelessons)
and on my website.

For over 15 years I have been a musician and have learned various skills of the music profession. My principal instrument is guitar (electric, acoustic, classical, extended range) and have studied numerous styles such as classical, rock, blues, jazz, indie, fingerstyle, country, metal, funk, and others. I cater to the goals of the player and focus on lessons that keeps the student interested.

About Cole
My goal as an instructor is to keep the lessons fresh, fun, interesting, and to ultimately guide the students to better teach themselves as they gain experience and familiarity with the instrument and music. Students can have their lessons catered to the music and styles they wish to pursue. Lessons are tailored to each individual student so that we can build upon their strengths and focus on lessons to improve weaker areas. Students will learn how to build dexterity, use proper technique, and be creative. Every student has different goals, some really want to learn theory and read music. Others may simply want to learn to strum a few chords. Whatever the goal, I can provide the instructions to help the student succeed!

I accept all ages and skill levels.

Fun and informative music lesson from a Master teacher. I love all kinds of music and enjoy playing and teaching a variety of styles. We have a proven method and established curriculum but want to help you meet your specific goals first.
Professor of guitar at 2 midwestern universities with over 25 years of teaching experience. Here to help you become the player you aspire to be!

About Jason
As a versatile guitarist, Jason Riley’s professional experience includes recording, composing, teaching and performing in multiple styles. His education in classical guitar and commercial music included extended study in American styles, the Jazz idiom and improvisation.

As a recording artist, Jason has produced and released four solo CDs, Notes to Self (a compilation of original compositions) , Outtakes (original arrangements of traditional works), Spirit of Things (traditional American spirituals), and Funky Folk (familiar folk melodies and some quiet-time classical). An equally successful and dedicated sideman, his playing has been featured extensively on many albums by other artists.

Riley’s uniquely personal playing style, an improvisation-based approach utilizing “live” looping and tongue-in-cheek technical and technological effec
ts, is demonstrated through his humble stage presence, acclaimed work with acoustic and electric instruments and heart-felt tributes to his many musical influences. His versatility of style, mood and character is seemingly unlimited: he can play soft and subtle, frantic and aggressive, he can swing, he can rock, he can play unaccompanied, with other guitarists or with symphony orchestra. His work on stage not only reflects his understanding of classical form and balance, but shows a highly original combination of this classical/rock/jazz background that very few guitarists can successfully execute in live performance.

Jason has won competitions and reader’s polls in both the rock and country genres and has opened for and performed with national and international artists. He has also made numerous radio and television appearances. When not on tour, Jason serves as adjunct professor of guitar at Benedictine College in Atchison, KS and Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph, MO. He has also served as co-director at the Festival Chartres – an international guitar festival in Chartres, France.
