With 15 years of poetry-writing and songwriting experience, Liz loves to teach songwriting with passion and creativity. She uses practices such as improvisation and listening to encourage and develop each student's individual creative style.

About Liz

After graduating California Institute of the Arts with a multi-focus on several aspects of music including African dance, Indonesian gamelan, songwriting, recording, classical voice and piano, folk guitar, and more, Liz had the excellent opportunity to teach theater to a local musical theater summer youth program. All summer, she taught class sizes ranging from 10 to 26 students of the ages 5-10. Her initiative later led to being hired at this local community theater. Along with this theater teaching experience, she has been teaching piano, guitar, ukulele, flute & voice lessons for over 10 years. Her students have gone from knowing nothing about music to learning and performing entire pieces on their own as well as even auditioning & for agents and becoming signed artists in Los Angeles. Liz knows that it is her place in the world to tea

ch music & spread positivity through her own music and would love nothing more than make learning music a positive and fun experience for everyone.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach out of the Alfred's Piano course, but am open to trying out any music books you may already have in your home. I do expect my students to purchase the books they would like to learn out of and to have the material I have given them for homework ready, completed, and practiced by the time we have our weekly lesson. I recommend at least twenty to thirty minutes of practice every day, and will give rewards for having practiced well, and for performing well in our lessons. I would love it for my students to be clear on what they would like to learn, and I love using songs that the student enjoys to make his or her music learning process fun.

***Rates****
$100 per hour lesson | $90 per 45min lesson | $60 per 30min lesson
*A travel fee may be added for house calls.

About Carrie

*****I don't have a current background check through take lessons but have an active ongoing background check through another employer ******

I've been teaching and performing professionally for over 15 years. I have my BA in music and business. I have had some amazing experiences along the way. I've worked with world renowned vocal coaches, sang at Carnegie Hall, and played on various cds to raise money/awareness for charity projects. I'm grateful for all of this, but I love working with students on their music most of all. It delights me to see a student have an "aha" moment where they realize that they have what it takes to be great. I'd love to work with you, but if I don't I hope you reach your goals and have fun doing it ! ~ Carrie Jo ~

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a laid back teacher but you will definitely learn

a lot. I just believe if it starts to not be fun, what's the point? Music isn't just about perfect theory and note placement it's about enjoyment. That's why I tailor make every lesson specifically based on my student's goals. I have students that like a more traditional approach so I use standard method books with them. I also have students that want to learn how to play by ear so we use a less traditional method and I teach them chord structures and how to move around easily on their instrument. My favorite thing to teach is vocal lessons but I love teaching piano and guitar also.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons are taught on an upright piano or acoustic/electric guitar. Student should bring own guitar. No pets. Waiting room out front for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
They need their own instrument.

*** Specialties ***
I've performed at Carnegie Hall and I've had the opportunity to work with world renowned vocal coaches. I offer that as well as techniques that I've developed to help you reach your goals quickly and with great skill !

I started writing songs since I was 17, I have learned that sometimes it takes a hundred songs before you get ten good ones for an album. Well versed in helping create 3 minute songs for radio airplay. If you are into progressive music like Rush and Dream Theatre, I also understand how to write songs without concern of time limit that aren't necessarily made for radio but for pure enjoyment.

About Tim

I love to help anyone who has been told they're not able to play guitar, has quit out of frustration, or been told they're too old or too young to play.

*** Lesson Details ***
Each lesson is customized to your learning style and different for everyone depending on what you want to learn. Most of my students like to learn from scratch which would include the following:
In the first 3 lessons you will learn basic guitar fundamentals, basic 1-4-5 song progressions (the stuff that 85% of all music we listen to is made up of), left hand / right hand coordination, picking techniques, how to strum, mute, & play notes on the guitar.

We can play as a band too. When you are ready, I love to bring out the drum or backing tracks to your favorite artists songs while you play guitar and I play what your not, giving you the feel of a live group

situation that can make learning at your lesson more fun.

Genres include Acoustic, Blues, Country, R&B, Funk, Latin, Jazz, Rock, Pop and more.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My Line 6 Spider Jam will take any wave file and speed up or slow down the tempo and lower or higher the key to your preference.

My favorite artists include Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimmy Hendrix and Tim connects the lessons back to them. Each lesson is fun, and challenging. Tim is fun and always fully engaged. About Maria

MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of my studio is to create well-rounded, educated musicians who will always have a lifelong passion for the art no matter their long-term goals. I strive for my students to be:

(1) Lifelong learners who develop successful learning habits.
(2) Creative and critical thinkers who will become effective communicators.
(3) Responsible and respectful members of society who respect other cultures.
(4) Able to set short-term and long-term goals and be able to see them through to their success.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

It is of the utmost importance that my students are well-educated in their chosen instrument; they must know and understand music and music-making. Students who can play are a dime a dozen, but students who understand the music they are playing are often hard to find. I teach students to kno

w music thoroughly, not just to “play.” I desire my students to comprehend elements of the score, to use their bodies effectively to make good sound, and to interpret music creatively and according to historical performance practices across all genres of music. Thus, I give students a purposeful education in technique, quality literature, performance and artistry, music theory, and music history.

Although students differ in ability and development, I maintain high expectations for our students. I expect attention and respect in lessons, faithful and diligent practice, careful adherence to instructions, and an “I’ll-do-my-best” attitude. If students regularly meet these expectations, then they will excel to the level that they are able. It is my joy to help students master their music, to do the best they can, and to strive for and achieve excellence.

Lastly, I want students to enjoy and appreciate their instrument, music, and music-making; and I know as as a teacher, I am very influential in making this happen. Students develop enjoyment of music by understanding music, experiencing success in music, being exposed to good and varied genres of music, and receiving instruction from a teacher who is enthusiastic and encouraging. It is my goal to provide all of these opportunities for students, and as a result their lives will be enriched as they enjoy their instrument.

My daughter takes guitar from Maria and I didn’t realize how much she’s progressed until we went to a friend’s recital. 8 months with Maria and my child is leaps and bounds ahead of kids who’ve been taking for 2-3 years. It’s really motivating for her to see. Maria has standards which are non-negotiable but she’s patient and truly guides the kids to success. I’m so happy with our choice as her as a teacher.

Maria has been wonderful with our son. Very motivating and goal based. The recitals blow me away year after year. The progress these kids make with her plus the longevity of her students says a lot.

I frequently take trips to Nashville to co-write with prominent writers, I teach my students to use words appropriately, allow the words to inform the music, and become dynamic songwriters.

About Josh

I am a professional singer, pianist, songwriter, and recording artist. I graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a Bachelors of Music, specifically voice.

Voice students can expect to improve week to week in their vocal technique. Every voice has a unique timbre; I teach students to release built up tension and apply foundational techniques in order to unlock their own individual sound. I can help any student to sing with freedom, confidence, and expression.

I teach piano students of all different ages and experience levels. I studied classical piano for 16 years, and contemporary keyboard for 7 of those. I can teach students to read music and pursue classical excellence, to learn how to play contemporary music using chord sheets, or both depending on the goals and preference of the student.

As a professional recording a

rtist I frequently take trips to Nashville for co-writing, recording, and meeting with record labels. I have written with well-known writers like Mia Fieldes from Hillsong, Tony Wood from Provident Label Group, Stu G from Delirious?, and Jon Steingard from Hawk Nelson. I love to mentor students who want to become effective, dynamic songwriters.

My personal passion is contemporary music but I firmly believe that great technique is essential to any and every style. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!

"Flexible, patient, fun teacher!

Jared came to house over the span of year to complete my lessons. I have a very erratic schedule, but Jared communicates
easily and we were always able to find a good time for lessons.

I didn't really know what direction I wanted my musical education to go, and Jared was very sensitive to that. We started with basic exercises, and worked up to basic and intermediate music theory, until we reached the point where I was writing songs on my own. He even showed me a few different methods of songwriting.

All in all, I had a great time. Would def recommend!"

"Love my classes with Hilary so far! I'm developing myself as a songwriter to launch my professional music project very soon. Half of the class is basic pi

Songwriting can be a very vulnerable thing to do and Hilary creates a safe, professional space for the writing to happen. I'm excited to take more classes with her and definitely recommend her!"

"Fawn is original, passionate and a musical genius who makes learning fun

Fawn’s way of teaching is quite original, passionate and always to the point.
She can make the most insecure person get out of their own way and become more secure. Working with her, I get a glimpse of genius in action. She really is a musical genius and I have been learning an incredible amount from her. My songs keep getting better under her training and guidance and I finally got a placement in a sitcom from her re-write. I look forward to watching my own abilities continue to grow and become stronger."

"Fawn is an investment in my future, money spent well

Fawn takes you on an unexpected fun, whirlwind of learning when you take lessons with her. Can’t r
ead the notes? No problem, she’s got you. Vocal problems? Oh yeah, she fixes that too. Trouble in the studio? Voice off pitch? Need mic technique? Weak on piano? Sight singing? Can’t play the blues? Can’t play classical? Need to learn how to write a song? Can’t find a hook for your song? Don’t worry, Fawn to the rescue! Seriously, is there nothing this woman can’t do? I soak up her wisdom like a sponge. I’m currently working in the studio with her on my debut album and we are half-way finished. It is sounding ah-may-zing! I am learning so much from this studio wiz. Having her in my life the past 3 years has been the right choice and an investment in my future. Here’s to another successful year with Fawn on my team."

Songwriting Tips: 11 Examples From 7 Hit Songs

By Suzy S.

Writing a catchy song that delivers a strong message can be quite difficult. Here, voice teacher Emmanuel N. shares the songwriting tips you can glean from several famous singers...     When it comes to lyric-writing and songwriting, nobody can really teach you how to do it – it’s better to show by example. Whether you’re simply writing lyrics to a song you will one day sing (or someone else will sing for you) or you’re songwriting to a musical piece you found or created, …
