I teach every student the technical skills and applied theory necessary to work in any contemporary style on guitar. I use the "Be better than you have to be" approach. Want to be the best on a bad day? Be better than your chosen style requires. I studied classical and jazz in order to excel at rock, folk and blues.
You will learn to read music and charts for guitar, as well as movable scale patterns, movable chord forms, and how to apply it all to master the fretboard.
Have you hit a road block? I can help. Are you brand new and want to be sure you understand the instrument completely? I can help.

I've been teaching guitar for 5 years helping students develop a love for the instrument and learn more about music along the way. There are many styles I'm comfortable teaching from folk (fingerpicking or flatpicking), rock, blues and funk and I would love working on developing a unique style of your own. Within the first few lessons you'll have a solid base of strumming, picking and chord changes and even a few simple songs under your belt. Moving on from there I will craft lessons to move you toward a "goal song," making sure to cater your progress to your needs while keeping a focus on good technique. I enjoy working with students of all ages and experiences and I can't wait to meet you!

About Ryan

He specializes in guitar, banjo, mandolin and ukulele, but also dabbles in accordion, piano, drums, harmonica and several others. Carolyn is a wonderful teacher! Our 9-year-old daughter has been taking ukulele lessons (online) with her for a few weeks now. She came to LOVE her lessons, and has already made a lot of progress. Carolyn is an accomplished musician and singer (beautiful voice!!), yet she has no problem taking a beginner's perspective and explaining things in a clear, simple, kid-friendly way. She is fun and easy-going, and also incredibly patient. Overall, great experience!

"Greg is an excellent teacher. He keeps lessons interesting and caters to what his student wants to learn. The very first class he asked me to come next class with 5 songs that I ultimately wanted to learn. Over the course of the following lessons, he would incorporate skills needed to play those songs. He would reference my "dream songs" when learning other skills and explain that I would need this later to be able to play my songs. It is awesome because all while I was learning what I thought was random guitar knowledge, he was prepping me to play my "dream songs". He is also hilarious! He has a great sense of humor which helps keep the lessons fun and interesting. He is easy to approach if I am confused by something and is able to come at it in a different manner to get me to truly understand. He also has immense patience which is awesome for someone like me who doesn't always have time to practice as much as I would like. I would highly recommend Greg to any age student as he knows how to make learning guitar fun and approachable!"

"Why would anyone defame such a wonderful teacher? He is so dedicated and follows through with his lessons by consistently sending links all through the week that helps with understanding all you need to know about musical sounds. Its been an intriguing experience for me. Pay no attention to anonymous critics; they choose to remain anonymous not to help you, but to help themselves. I would recommend James to anyone seriously interested in honing their skills in the acoustic guitar. Cheers!"

"Rich is top notch! My daughter has taken banjo and guitar (acoustic and electric) with him for about 6 years. She has also had several excellent teachers over the years, in piano, violin, and voice and great theory instruction in general. But when it came time for college auditions, she attributed a large part of her success in the theory portion to Rich's preparation. What's most special about Rich is that, even while he's teaching the theory, he ALWAYS keeps it fun. He's has a great formula - scales/theory, a little music history, songs/technique, fun. We'd give him 10 stars if we could."
