Writing songs is so much fun, and easier than you think! Having studied jazz and pop theory and songwriting at Westminster Choir College, and the Berklee College of Music online, combined with my own personal experience writing music as a singer here in northeast Florida, has prepared me to teach the beginning fundamentals of songwriting.
About Heather M.
More important than my conservatory education and my experience as an educator and a performer is my passion for teaching music and acting and my undying belief that anyone can learn to be a musician and an actor. I'm currently available to teach lessons in my own St. Augustine home studio and

Weather you have written 100 songs or you want to write your first song, I can help. We will go over melody, singing technique, and work on making your song/songs the best they can be. I have worked with many songwriters of all genres to help their songwriting ability, including many bands who currently play out in the Phoenix area. If your a beginner and only have a melody in your head, I can help you put that melody down into your own music (playing piano or guitar is very helpful for you to know basics of songwriting). If you have any questions regarding songwriting lessons, please feel free to ask me by clicking the ask a teacher button at the top of my profile.

Voice lessons are tough. This isn't like a golf swing where someone can show you physically what to do or reach out and position your elbows where they need to be.
This all has to be articulated by a teacher, and is has to be articulated to someone (YOU) who doesn't even know what parts you're trying to move around.
It takes a great teacher. Eulis is a GREAT teacher. He gave me physical descriptions, character descriptions, accent descriptions, … everything I needed to position everything where it needed to be, even when I didn't always know where it was.
A lot of progress and a lot of fun. Thank you, Eulis.

I love songwriting, and have been writing songs pretty much since the day I started playing music. I mostly write songs on the guitar and for voice, but I have plenty of experience writing music for all instruments, as well as writing songs for rock, pop, and jazz bands. I can help you with your own songs no matter what style of music you like. I can help you learn the elements of song writing that are universal to all styles of music so that you can find your own sound, as well as how to get the sound of a specific style.

Writing songs is not as difficult as it may seem. I have guided many students through the process. It is truly a fun and creative time for both student and teacher.
Some familiarity with harmonic and rhythmic concepts, as well as some analytic terminology is necessary to get the ideas out of your head and into the air. I like to start by analyzing the songs of others and discussing them. Then we get down to the brass tacks and talk about the song as if it were no different than the blueprint of a building.
