A 'good ear' is very important to any musician. It can help guide a musician through difficult musical passages and support their music reading. Ear training teaches musicians to play in tune which is especially important when playing in ensembles. Ear training is essential to improvised music especially with jazz, rock, Latin, and funk. Ultimately, a good ear is useful for transcribing and learning music otherwise unavailable in written form.
Although Vince is an excellent reader, he has an even stronger ear (which attributes to his aptitude for learning multiple instruments). Through studying and performing jazz, he's developed and tuned his ear. Vince also relies on his ear by transcribing music for the bands' of which he is a member.

Vince earned the Masters of Music degree in Jazz Performance from the University of the Arts; and earned the Bachelor of Science in Music degree concentrating in Jazz Studies and Theory & Composition from the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz. He studied trumpet through undergraduate and graduate school with Rebecca Coupe Franks
, Dennis Wasko, and John Swana. Vince has also attended master classes held by Randy Brecker, Matt Gallagher, Michael Abene, Craig Morris, Steve Wilson, Claudio Roditi, Pat Martino, Malcolm McNab, Matthew Shipp, Scott Holbert, John Abercrombie, Jeff Curnow, and Alison Balsom.
Vince first began teaching music in 2006 as the trumpet instructor at Silver Creek Central School. He directed trumpet master classes for high school students. Vince later took on various private students teaching trumpet, guitar, electric bass, improvisation, arrangement and composition. While earning his Master of Music at the University of the Arts, he served as the trumpet department intern and was responsible for teaching private trumpet lessons, preparing transcriptions for class materials and live performances, and proctoring music theory exams. Also at UArts, Vince was a teaching assistant for the Freshman Jazz Improvisation class for which he conducted sectionals, administered exams, and offered critiques regarding inventiveness of improvisations. In 2017 he taught a jazz improvisation masterclass at Schenectady County Community College.
Since each student approaches music differently; Vince tailors his teaching to fit students' approaches. He asks each student, "What do you want to accomplish?" Together, they set short and long term goals. Vince believes a strong technical foundation leads to freer ease of artistic expression. His students receive a wholistic approach to music applicable to whatever instrument they choose.
Vince’s original music has been described as “a contemporary instance of fusion done right” (Matthew Aquilin, All About Jazz). His next album, The Nook, is a full length straight-ahead jazz album featuring John Swana. The music harks back to Miles Davis' first great quintet. The Nook was preceded by Sound Plan (2017), Live at PafA (2017), Syzygy (2014), and Syzygy: Remix (2014). Vince is currently self producing four more solo albums. One unreleased composition was recently featured in the Philadelphia Real Book Volume 1.
Vince has appeared as a side man on 40+ albums. He is the trumpeter and arranger with the York Street Hustle, the John Byrne Band, and You Do You. Vince founded the Philly Phatness horn section, which has recorded with regional, national, and international artists, and on film soundtracks. He serves as Musical Director and bassist for Phloyd: a Philadelphia Pink Floyd tribute band. -Young kids in voice can expect their lessons to be fun and educational including using visual tools like scarves and shakers, and imaginative play to learn vocal techniques needed to sing on pitch and with proper breathe control.
-Children in piano lessons will learn music theory and piano technique through simple songwriting exercises, theory games, visual tools and more. They will learn about composer's lives and musical styles, providing them with a well-rounded lesson experience.
-Older children and adult singers can expect to learn about their vocal anatomy in order to better control of their voice and become independent during practice sessions at home. They will learn how to improve breathe control, posture and diction. Time during lessons will also be dedicated to developing stage presence and discussing vocal health. Singers will be allowed to select repertoire from the genre of their choice. They can also learn how to harmonize and sight-sing in lessons if they would like.
-I teach beginning guitar students and help them learn how to play with proper technique and accompany themselves when singing. These students learn to read staff and tab and shape different chords on the guitar. I use theory games and visual tools for kids to make lessons fun
-Music theory/composition students will be taught how to read and write music. Students will be invited to improvise on the piano and record their improvisations.They will be taught how to sight-sing in order to learn how to notate any melodies in their head They will learn how music has changed and been influenced throughout history. They will learn how to read lead sheets and use stylistic invariants in their playing. They will be provided with honest feedback and constructive help on their compositions.They will learn how the human brain processes music and how best to capitalize upon this process for the greatest audience appeal.

I am a Westminster Choir College '11 Alum who graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts in Music, summa cum laude. I also have my master's degree in music therapy from Drexel University. I am also a Member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and a Board Certified Music Therapist. During my time at school I performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kimmel Center, and did music therapy work with older adults, as well as disadvantaged children and parents.
I also have my own parent/child music class I host every Thursday September-May. It's never to early to start a music education!
I have been teaching for over four years and now have a studio of more than 70 happy students. Teaching music is my passion, and I love seeing students grow!
I often draw upon my experience from my master's degree in music therapy, which taught me that music can have a profound effect on the human brain and upon cognitive development. My approach to teaching has a very heavy emphasis on implementing the idea of mindfulness into the students life. I have found that this is not only the quickest way to learn, but also the most motivating way to learn any skill for both my students and myself. A simple awareness of the finite details that go into a craft, while at the same time acting upon them in way that is loose and detached has helped me learn an array of new skills and has profoundly changed my life as well as others for the better.
Very knowledgeable. I liked being educated or informed about the process of my son's lesson before and after.

After 30 years I finally decided to learn how to play drums. Kevin clearly knows what he's doing in any genre of drumming! It seemed like every lesson he had a clear/thorough plan, didn't stress me out by teaching to rapidly, or bore me by going to slowly. A very solid teacher.

Been trying to get my middle-schooler to practice for a few years now. It's like pulling teeth.
Kevin has somehow broken through to him. Fun lessons. Incredibly useful homework. Couldn't recommend him more.
My approach to ear training is an interactive experience between the teacher and student. Students will learn to identify hear and play scales, modes, chords, and charts while utilizing their ear training for better improvisation.
I teach children, adolescents , and adults. I have also worked with special needs populations for many years in a variety of settings. I am very patient adept and compassionate. I am also very skilled at my instrument as I studied music at the University Level. My goals are to combine my experience teaching special education with my experience studying and teaching music performance. I am very enthusiastic about teaching students at advanced levels as well. I teach piano and drumset. I teach various styles of music and hope to engender my students' love for music and the arts. I consider myself a mentor, a Music Therapist, and an educator.

David is a very skilled drummer and a very enthusiastic teacher. In lessons, he seems to like to split time between practicing rudiments and learning to play different rhythms on the set. He is also exceptionally patient and supportive with my 9-year-old, highly distractible daughter. David is very positive, pointing out things that are going well and interesting rhythms that they discover. I am really glad we found David--he is an excellent teacher and I love watching my daughter learn so much about music!
I teach ear training with intervals and tunes. The student listens and then must play what they hear.
Music Lessons should be fun! I have been playing music all my life. I share my love of music with my students and tailor each lesson to their specific needs. I also teach music composition. If you ever had that idea for a song, I'll teach you how to develop it.
Dominic is a fantastic teacher. He makes the lesson so enjoyable, that I don't want it to end. It is the fastest hour of my life. He's extremely talented & professional but still personable all at the same time.

Help with sight reading interval training and dictation
Rachel S. is a Lyric Soprano that hails from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In July, she portrayed the role of Mother in Humperdink’s Hansel and Gretel with the Miami Opera Institute. This fall, she recently worked as a Resident Artist with Utah Opera.
Last spring, she completed her Master’s of Music at Rice University, under the instruction of acclaimed voice teacher, Dr. Stephen King. There, she performed the role of Lady Billows in their 2014 production of Britten’s Albert Herring. Rachel made her operatic debut with Rice University in their fall of 2012 production of Volpone as Celia. With Rice University, she was also featured in their scenes programs as Mimi from La Bohème, Ilia from Idomeneo, Rosalba from Florencia en el Amazonas, and Mrs. Fiorentino from Street Scene.
Rachel has performed extensively with the Aspen Opera Theat
er Center. Last summer, she understudied Sybil Vane in Loehmann’s The Picture of Dorian Grey. In 2013, she performed the role of Suor Osmina in their production of Suor Angelica, and covered the roles of Fortuna and Venere in their production of L’coronazione di Poppea. She also portrayed Pamina, La Contessa, Ilia, Anne Truelove and Laurie Moss in their various scenes programs.
Rachel completed her Bachelor’s of Music at Mannes College in 2012. There, she performed in their Opera Scenes Workshop and their Rise of Modernism Festival, singing Canciones populares Españolas by Manuel de Falla.
She is an amazing instructor and I have already seen my improvement after the first lesson.

Rachel was great! She made me feel very comfortable and taught me so much about singing in the short time that we had. She is extremely knowledgeable about the human voice in general and teaches about proper technique that will not only boost your confidence but will keep you singing down the road. Definitely would recommend for all skill levels!
This is the class where you learn about intervals, singing and hearing pitches, solfeggio, and gain an understanding of music. Ear training goes hand in hand with music theory.

I am a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, and I've played all over the world. I've played with soloists from Frank Sinatra to Diana Ross, Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons to Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo. I still perform and consider this important to my teaching as well.
Some major accomplishments include an invitation to the White House, over 50 solo performances with orchestras starting with The Philadelphia Orchestra at age 15, a performance for the Princess of Thailand, and early television performances starting at age 7. While I had previous experience playing an instrument MANY years ago, I never played the piano and started taking lessons with Lori as an adult. In almost no time I was able to read the bass clef (left hand) notes and within the year I had learned all the scales (majors and relative minors - both harmonic and melodic) and arpeggios (root and inversions). I was also playing "real" pieces of music.
Lori stresses good technique and good practice habits and can suggest more than one way to master a concept. She also makes learning the piano fun.

I began singing at very young age and have never stopped : ) I began teaching music and voice while in college and have been doing so ever since! I'm classically-trained in voice and have a versatile sound and style. I help my students to find their voice and bring it out to the people who are waiting to hear it! We always have fun through learning. I incorporate the basic fundamentals of music theory into my classes as well. I believe it's important and fun!
