As a harp teacher, all of my
students play scales, arpeggios, and technical exercises in
their lessons. I believe having a strong technical base is the foundation for
every part of playing and you can't learn without it. I will set the repertoire
for students according to their technical progress and although I may
take into consideration a student's desires to learn a certain piece, there has
to be time and they have to be ready for it. I have both short term and long
term goals for each student that involve theory, technical ability, and
repertoire both orchestral and solo. Adult students still have to learn
technique, it makes things much more fun and easy six months later, I promise! Beginning students will learn how to read notes, understand basic theory, and technique in a short amount of time, so don't be scared if you have never had a music lesson before.

I have both short term and long
term goals for each student that involve theory, technical ability, and
repertoire: fun, orchestral and solo. Adult students still have to learn
technique, it makes things much more fun and easy six months later, I promise! Beginning students will learn how to read notes, understand basic theory, and technique in a short amount of time, so don't be scared if you have never had a music lesson before.

I require all students make
at least half an hour a day commitment to practice. I teach mostly the Grandjany method of harp technique, however, I also use Salzedo and Renie methods
at times to fit a particular students' build and unique physical attributes as well as what the piece requires. I
have studied all techniques throughout my education and I find them all
beneficial for different reasons. I do, however, believe everyone is built
differently and the technique should help the harpist play and not hinder them
from achieving their goals. Everyone learns at a different speed, but as a
brand new musician, after six months practicing regularly, you should be able
to read music fluently, understand basic theory concepts, be able to play with
both hands and four fingers on each hand, play all of the basic scales and
arpeggios musically and be able to play at least one piece memorized.
Curriculum is based on the student's technical ability and issues and is
individually created – if you learn slower than someone else, don’t worry about
your pace. In the end, lessons are about you personally and not someone else.

As a PIANO teacher, I want students to learn about music and not just the piano. Students will learn basic music theory and basic scales as a part of their lessons. They will also occasionally choose a song of their choosing to work on chords. I do promote note reading and theory, so I am not the right teacher for students who don't want to invest time in learning the basics. These basics are the building blocks of all music and can be used for any instrument the student chooses to learn in the future.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have harps and a piano at my studio, so you do not need to bring your harp to lessons. If you don't own a harp, you can rent one for around $45/month from several sources.

*** Specialties ***
HARP - Grandjany Technique with an incorporation of Salzedo and French school depending on the player's body type and technical difficulties. I make use of the ABRSM as well as local, national, and international competitions depending on the student's level of commitment.

PIANO - I teach basic piano for fun through an Intermediate level. Although some students choose to take CM and ABRSM exams, I do not push them. I want students to enjoy piano and music lessons.

Alexandra Perdew is a one of a kind instructor. She not only pushes her students to excel, but I truly believe that she inspires greatness. She treats her students with the utmost respect and works diligently to provide them with every possible resource needed for learning. She is not a teacher who will let anyone get by with putting in half the effort. She motivates me to work and perform at the highest level possible.

During lessons, students will warm up with scales, arpeggios, and technical exercises in
their lessons, then work on set repertoire based on their level of technique.

About Melody
Melody Tai is an accomplished harpist, dancer, and pianist who has performed throughout the United States and Europe.

She has been on stage since the age of four and has performed on some of the world’s largest stages including center stage at the 2015 Grammy Awards with Stevie Wonder and Usher. Aside from performing, Melody also loves teaching and sharing her artistic crafts. She has been teaching for five years through multiple studios in Southern California, Northern California, and New York City. As a teacher, she prides herself in training the technical and and historical aspects of her art forms to make sure students develop appropriate technique to
avoid injury both immediate and long term. At the same time, she promotes a fun environment and learning experience for even the most difficult students. She trains students of all ages, but focuses on beginning- intermediate levels.

Melody received her musical training from Alexandra Perdew, Mei Lau, Daniel Alfred Wachs, and The Little Dance World company and school. Melody is as lovely as she is talented. Not only does she understand the harp inside and out, but her playing is like nothing I've ever heard. While she can of course play classic tunes, she is also innovative with the harp, tackling some of today's most popular hits. Most importantly, however, Melody is patient. While the harp is her first passion and she is well beyond her years, she is not only willing, but eager to share her talent with others. It has been a pleasure learning from someone who has in time become a friend. I would recommend Melody to any and everyone with the slightest passion for harp. While it is a joy learning from her, the greatest treat is hearing her play. Thanks for everything Mels!

I am a french professionnal harpist. I can make harp lessons in French if you also want to improve your French language or in English. I love teaching! I studied classical music in a Conservatory in Paris. I got my Gold Medal and my first price in Harp. I also studied jazz music in a jazz school. I like playing different kind of music: celtic, pop, rock, jazz, word music and classical music of course. I've been teaching the harp since a long time. I was a harp teacher in a Conservatory in France for more 23 years. I play on a classical harp and electric harp with effects and amp. You can listen to me on my website: http://www.sonates-en-duo. I hope to hear from you!!!!

About Maiwenn
Bonjour, my name is Maïwenn. It's a celtic name. I come from France, from Paris, where I grew up. I love playing the harp. Music is one of the most important thing of the life. You can share it and play with other musicians. Music helps to feel better and positive. I love playing different kind of music because music stays music. I'd be very enjoyed to teach you the harp and maybe to help you to learn few words in French. I started to learn the music at the age of 7 years old. I obtained a gold medal for harp and a degree in music studies at the Conservatory. In 2005 I received my first prize for harp and I became the first harpist in the Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestra of the Paris Conservatory. I regurlarly give many concerts with my different bands. I’ve been teaching harp at different levels for many years. I’ve been working with
a lot event planning agencies specialized in weddings in France for an international clientele. In 2006, I form a classical duo. I am very pleased to propose my duet « Sonates en Duo » an unusual alliance between a soprano saxophone and a harp. We record our first album under the name of Sonates en Duo. In 2011, I set up “Twinkel Quintet”, an electro-acoustic experimental jazz band. Twinkel Quintet explores an unlimited repertory where freedom of expression and experimentation are revealed through my compositions and arrangements of jazz standards, original acoustic browsing with stamps and appliances. For me, the Twinkel Quintet represents, above all, a desire to access and develop a musical project based on her instrument, the harp, - an instrument that is little known in this kind of music, and which provides great scope for creativity. Indeed, the music of the Twinkel Quintet is music that is at the crossroads of jazz and contemporary music, full of moods and colors that awaken and challenge our curiosity.

My teenage son has an array of colorful disabilities that challenge his everyday life. De Luna has been teaching him harp lessons for the past year, and I can honestly say she is the BEST, most caring, thoughtful, patient and filled with knowledge teacher that we have ever had! He has not only learned to play the harp, but most importantly she has taught him to have fun and a love for learning to play the harp. He has gained self encouragement, and self belief in himself.
