Drum Lessons in Glengary. Amazing Teachers.

My approach to teaching drums will have you playing within the first few weeks of lessons. I teach with the focus on getting students ready to play in any sort of ensemble. Jazz, rock, pop, funk and free styles will all be discussed.

I have a background in fundamental rhythm, rather than teaching the student to simply play, I teach them to read and write their own rhythms and drum beats in a fun and hands-on manner using methods that music teachers around the country use in their classrooms. Furthermore, I have years of experience teaching children as young as 4 years old from their very first lesson. I’ve developed my own method for children to read drum music using simple and an easy to understand rhythmic language.

My teaching technique is learner-centered. I work with students to help them build a strong vocabulary of drum rudiments and have them apply their newly acquired drumming knowledge to the songs and genres that interest them most. I have found this to be ideal for those at the beginning and intermediate levels. For the advanced drummers out there, I may be able to assist with some minor application of technique or perhaps deviate from standard drumming practices to acquire a fuller awareness of the body's interaction with not only the drumsticks and drum set, but how to maintain total postural awareness.

For those interested in flamenco, I have a lifetime of experience with the rhythms of flamenco, am a professional cajón player, and study/perform flamenco guitar.

I'm a professional drummer, and studied jazz drums with the legendary Billy Hart at Oberlin Conservatory of Music. I have experience playing jazz, Latin, pop/rock, African, and contemporary Christian music at a professional level.

Though advanced jazz drumming is my specialty, I love teaching drum lessons to students of all skill levels, and welcome beginner and intermediate students as well as advanced ones.

Lessons with me will be catered to your individual needs. I also have a jazz-drums-specific curriculum that we can through together if that is your area of interest.
