I have been playing drum kit and percussion for over fifteen years and teaching for about 12. I've played a little bit of everything - pop, rock, punk, hip-hop, ska/reggae, blues, jazz, and even musical theater. I'm happy to share my skills and expertise with drummers of all ages and skill levels (lessons at my studio will be on electronic kit).
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.
I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.
*** Lesson Details *** I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!
o Equipment *** I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.
*** Specialties *** Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm. Drums & Percussion: All genres Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)
Learn basic skills such as sticking, proper technique, timing signatures, rudiments, drum beats, world grooves, sight reading, and just all around fun on drum kit. Find your groove :)
Henri is an experienced, focused teacher and musician who really enjoys seeing students achieve their goals and desires musically. Henri has studied privately with former Berklee Graduate Al Pahanish Jr (Powerman 5000), and former Capitol Records recording artist Morrison Moon. He is a goal-oriented individual with a versatile background and a relaxed, "let's have fun while we learn" attitude. Henri believes music should always be fun and inspiring for everyone, no matter what skill level. FUN is always the focus, because if you are not having fun, why are you doing it?
Henri also has years of experience touring both nationally and internationally with several award-winning Arizona-based performing groups, (Okilly Dokilly, Dry River Yacht Club,The Hourglass Cats, Clint Stevens, Street Drum Corps) performing shows in 46 of the US State
s, as well as international festival performances and touring in Canada, Norway, Mexico, UK (England, Scotland, Northern Ireland), and Republic of Ireland. His past teaching and performing experiences have really helped shaped the musician he is today.
Aside from preforming and private lessons, he is the founder of his preschool program Wee Rock Music, serves as adjunct faculty at Mesa Community College, and is the Entertainment Coordinator for Tempe Festival of The Arts. As a writer, his work has been published in Phoenix New Times and Modern Drummer, and his new children's drum book, Wee Beats, Wee Eats, is set for release in 2018. And also is an accomplished DJ.
Benard also co-scored the 2012 feature-length documentary, The Immigration Paradox, with Tobie Milford. Active in the music industry for more than 15 years, Henri is experienced in production, artist management, booking, merchandising, copyright, graphic design, promotions, licensing, teaching, publishing, writing, and live and studio performances.
A life-long learner, Henri is always finding new experiences and new ways to connect with his students, as learning comes just as much from the student as it does the teacher. You can always find him around "the music."
Henri is endorsed by TJS Custom Drums and Los Cabos Drumsticks.
*** Lesson Details *** Students who study with me can expect for their guitar, drum kit, percussion, or piano lessons to be top-quality, personalized, and above all, extremely fun sessions that will cater to the students musical backgrounds, interests, and needs. I create extremely organized and specifically focused lessons so that students feel comfortable, not pressured, while learning their craft. The lessons I teach are a combination of developmental sight reading music, learning student chosen songs (depending on ability), inspiring and encouraging creative abilities, warm-up and strengthening exercises, proper techniques, listening for internal hearing, composition dynamics, chords, finger-picking (guitar only) and rudiments (drum kit only).
After 3 months of lessons together, students will have started learning several key elements to becoming an outstanding musician. They will have learned proper form and technique, warm-up/skill-building exercises, to read basic notation, and basic rhythms/rudiments. Guitar/Piano students will be able to play at least one song utilizing both melody and chords. For drum kit/percussion, students should have no problem reading basic drum beats and being able to play through a simple song. With proper, steady practice, most students will achieve much more. I also focus on creative thinking, professionalism, and instrument tuning. Finally, the students will have started to develop a solid level of discipline that is required of any aspiring human being! Remember, "practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent."
*** Studio Equipment *** Electronic Roland V-Drums, Acoustic and Electric Guitars, Casio CTK-800, LP Assorted Percussions, Protools LE, Logic Pro, Korg Electribe, Pioneer XDJ-XR, Music Books
*** Travel Equipment *** I can provide drum sticks, guitar, keyboards, percussion instruments, and all developmental material for students to retain and practice.
I expect my students to be providing the necessary musical equipment as well (guitars, drum kits, percussion instruments, piano/keyboard) for private lessons in home. If they do not have these in the home to practice with, the lessons are much less effective for your student.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in the following styles of playing:
Rock, Hip - Hop, All Latin, Jazz, Funk, Blues, R and B, Gospel, and Dance. I also have a very good feel for World Music as well. I have a very free-spirit for playing, so I often mesh the above stated styles into a more progressive style of playing. I believe that you must be feeling what you are playing.
I also specialize in DJing, beat programming/sequencing, recording, organizing song-writing/song-structure, musical score, live performance, and professional music marketing. I am able to show you how to use programs such as Logic Pro, Protools LE, Adobe, and Pioneer programs to take your creative abilities to the next level.
I believe that these days, it is imperative for musicians to have four major components in their professional arsenal: 1) Discipline and chops on your instruments (including reading music notation); 2) Know how to successfully market yourself and your music; 3) Know how to properly develop a learning ear to record/produce your songs/tracks as well as for others; and 4) Understand and effectively utilize music production programs.
I look forward to working with you and helping you achieve your musical desires. Thanks so much for stopping by and have a music-filled day.
***IMPORTANT NOTE, PLEASE READ: I am located in the metropolitan Detroit area. But, I am available for online (remote) lessons; with a very good online set up (tripods, cameras, etc). I am also available at my teaching space, and have two great drum sets, set up side by side; one for the student, and one for the instructor. I am also willing to commute to the student, within a certain radius, with a nominal fee (for gas and commute time). Thank you for your time and interest.
I have 25 years of experience as a working musician, combining: Private drum instruction, freelance studio work, and collaboration with musicians and bandmates in both a live and studio setting.
I have been a member of solid Metropolitan Detroit bands, most notably including: Friends of the Family, Night Train, and The Mobius Loop. I have been blessed wit
h many great opportunities, most notably supporting national acts, such as: The Headhunters, Melvin Seals, Mofro and Strange Folk. And, I have recorded at excellent Metropolitan Detroit studios, including: Studio N Armada, Riff Lab Studios, Woodshed Studios, The Disc, and CVF Studios. More recently, I have participated in recording projects with a group called The Nova Junction, and with talented producers Dan Lesnick and Josh Ackerman. Along with teaching drum lessons, I am presently collaborating on original material, with a newly formed rock band, called Electric Temple.
I am looking to add dedicated students to my current roster. I am very experienced with teaching students in a wide age range; as I have students that are 5 years of age, and students that are 60 plus years of age. I took private instruction, studying under two EXCELLENT drummers from the Detroit Metro area: Darryl Pierce and Donny Gruendler. Mr. Pierce (among many other accomplishments) currently tours internationally and nationally with a well known artist by the name of Bettye LaVette. This group has made frequent television appearances, including: David Letterman and Austin City Limits. Mr. Gruendler, is currently the Vice President of Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, and he has been featured in several Modern Drummer publications.
I have learned a great deal through private instruction, and therefore teach from experience. I utilize and apply many of the techniques that I personally found useful; through my own personal instruction. The two full drum kits, set up in my teaching/rehearsal space, have proven to be an exceptional teaching tool. References from teachers, students, producers, and bandmates can be provided on request.

Bill is top notch. I worked with Bill on Long Island in a club date band several years back. During that time he taught my nephew the drums. Bill's patience and knowledge paved the way for my nephew to get accepted into a top music school. A great player and a great teacher!
Experienced Music teacher of 8 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of their instrument and theory skills. I specialize in all styles. Typically, I use a variety of method books to pick from to meet the needs of the students. I also have many tools available to use during lessons. My students have gone on to NYSSMA and on to college auditions successfully!
I have been teaching private lessons since 2008, but have been studying music since I was only 4 with non stop private and in school lessons. I now have my Bachelor's degree in Music education and am working toward my Masters in Music performance and Instruction.
I love working with my students. Watching them succeed at what they do is what makes my day great. I always love to have a fun atmosphere around me and enjoy every minute it. Music is great for self expression a great Escape or an easy pass-time. It's nothing that should be stressful, but the opposite and that is what my lessons aim to do. Provide an educational, but fun and expressive learning experience to carry with you or your child throughout your lives.
Experienced teacher of ten years. I specialize in beginner and intermediate piano, guitar and drum students. All ages welcome. Lessons will focus on building a solid foundation of note reading and technical skill while also being customized to your interests and goals. Let's get started!
I am a music teacher who graduated from Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa. My main instrument is percussion and I also teach guitar and piano lessons. I have been teaching for ten years. Along with teaching I have played in numerous Pit Bands and have been a Praise Band Drummer for five years.
I'm an easy-going and passionate drum and percussion educator who truly enjoys working with students, not only to achieve their short term goals, but to share a life-long love of music and a desire to continue learning. I believe in fostering a student’s love of music. While I wholeheartedly devote lessons to developing a strong foundation of fundamentals, I also try demonstrate how they apply to a student’s passion. Simply, I like to teach how to learn and appreciate music - a skill that can be applied to all areas of education and life. If you want to learn something that I don't know, then we can learn it together. If you have other musical interests, like beat-making on your smartphone or playing other percussion instruments, we can incorporate those interests into the lessons. I believe that we can be complete musicians, not JUST drummers, so I like to involve music making into all we do in our time together.
Hello prospective student! I am a drummer, percussionist and producer with nearly 25 years of playing and teaching experience in the New York and Los Angeles areas. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music Management from William Paterson University in NJ with a playing concentration in classical and orchestral percussion, although ROCKING OUT on the drum set is my real love.
I am a student of Dom Famularo, Drumming World Ambassador, educator and author of the award-winning book It's Your Move, among many others. I also studied drum set with Tommy Igoe, bandleader and best-selling author of Groove Essentials and Great Hands For a Lifetime. I currently play in local L.A. bands Little Galaxies and Glowbird, as well as around town wherever I am hired. I have performed live with well-known pop stars as well as provided incidental music for musi
In addition to that, I am an avid songwriter and producer and I really look forward to incorporating electronic music into our lessons together.
In my lessons, I will start with a few custom lesson plans to gauge your skill level before moving on to method books. For beginning students, I like to focus on what makes music universally fun. We work on listening to music, feeling the pulse, and recognizing the rhythm. From there, I will introduce you to music notation and what it means when translated to sound. I also try to plant the seed of good technique by focusing on posture and stick handling.
As you become more advanced, I like to focus heavily on reading and developing playing techniques. At this point, I introduce a few method books for content to practice. We'll get started with Stick Control by George L. Stone to develop a foundation in dexterity. From there, we will use Tommy Igoe's Great Hands For A Lifetime to further develop healthy playing technique in a system based on rudimental drumming. Having been a student of Tommy's, I am uniquely capable of teaching this method to you.
On drum set, I typically start with Joel Rothman's Basic Rock Beats before moving on to John Lombardo's Rockin' Bass Drum. These two books cover many variations on the rock beat that are suitable for almost any playing style or occasion. As you develop into a proficient intermediate drummer, we will start to work through Tommy Igoe's Groove Essentials books for learning different genres and styles, with the focus being on groove, sound and musicality. I love getting to this stage in our face-to-face lessons because I can record you playing along to the songs in my studio.
At this point, you'll be able to handle mostly any reading and playing situation, so we may move on to more advanced studies like independence, polyrhythmic beats, odd time signatures, and linear time playing. From there, you're only limited by your imagination and desire to keep going!
Christian Johnson is one of the finest percussion instructors I have ever known. He worked on our marching band staff for several years serving as the drumline instructor. Thanks to his patience, professionalism, and wonderful personality, the drumline grew to unseen levels and helped thrust the band into one of the finest in the state for many years.
I strongly recommend Christian Johnson for any type of percussion teaching.

I started a bit behind the other kids in elementary school band. Chris was the drum instructor for the high school marching band at the time and my band teacher highly recommended him for private lessons.
Chris was able to get me caught up to the other drummers within a couple months. I was finally able to read sheet music fluently and began to be assigned more advanced parts to play in the school band. Each week Chris gave me homework assignments such as working on different rudiments or reading and playing different types of percussion sheet music (bells, xylophone, etc). My lessons with a Chris paid off over the years, as I was able to join the high school marching band as a middle schooler and went on to win accolades for my drumming in the school plays. Everything I learned and accomplished most definitely stemmed from my lessons with Chris!

Christian is a very knowledgeable and patient drum instructor. As a music teacher and producer myself, I like to have a good understanding of instruments I don't play such as drums, and Christian has helped me have a much deeper understanding of drumming techniques, concepts, exercises, and styles. He is quite versatile, has a great understanding of music, and is a very effective communicator. I highly recommend!
Along with hand drums such as doumbek, I can teach you to transfer rhythms & techniques to other percussion instruments. At first I thought I couldn't learn middle Eastern instruments or gongs, but discovered I could. Learn to hold a steady beat to support the music, or someone soloing and eventually learn to solo yourself. My lessons build on the lessons before to develop a wide vocabulary. We'll explore and play other percussion instruments, too, if desired. Drum and be merry, come one, come all!

All ages are welcome. Even old dogs can learn new tricks. :-) Shall we debunk this saying?
Looking forward to hearing from you. Let's dive in!
"Chuck has been teaching my son drums for several years now. In addition to being an accomplished musician and sound board technician in his own right, Chu
ck is also a great drum teacher and all around friendly guy.
I have seen my son’s drumming improve drastically over the last few years while he’s been under Chuck’s tutelage. Chuck has also taught my son how to mix his drumming with other instrument tracks on the sound board in order to create CDs and MP3s to send to his grandfather.
If you want a drum teacher who approaches his craft in a spirit of excellence, Chuck Reichel from Sound Picture Studio is the instructor for you!"
"Professional and Fun
Murray does a great job of encouraging the student while he is teaching. He takes the time needed to explain the very basics before
moving onto the more difficult concepts. He played for me and my family after my lesson was over! We really enjoyed it! He knows what he's doing and he has the instrument knowledge to back it up!"
"Brent has been a great and patient teacher for our son. Our son started learning drums with Brent when he was 5, and we have been working with Brent for a
year. Today our son has started reading music and also can hold a pretty complex beat (for a 6 year old) for at least some time! Thanks Brent!"
"Our son loves his Drum lessons.
Benk is very flexible, affordable and our son took to him very well. He even records what he has learned each week so we
both can keep track of his progress. He is much more affordable then other drum teachers or studio's in the area, and even will come to your home. If you are looking for a GREAT Teacher you should take some time to talk to Benk."
"Joshua has been excellent with my son Max (10 years old). He's very patient and positive. His calm demeanor is great for instructing. He keeps Max inte
rested and enthusiastic. Max enjoys taking lessons from Joshua, and I would highly recommend him to anyone of any age."
"It was great!"
"the best one of my faret"
"Jimmie arrived on-time and ready to start. He dove right into getting to know my son and started teaching him on bells and learning rhythm since that`s wh
at my son will be expected to know for his first year of band in the fall. He was very good at connecting with my son and easily had him enjoying the lesson. You can tell Jimmie has a passion for teaching children and his face lit up talking about it. He heaped praise on my sons accomplishments and my son said he truly enjoyed the lesson and can`t wait for next week. I`d highly recommend him to teach your child. I don`t think you`d find someone else with the same passion for children. So glad I made the decision to hire Jimmie and look forward to many years of him being involved in developing my son into a awesome musician. Thank you Jimmie!"
"V patient w/beginners and provided excellent tips and encouragement. Would recommend to anyone starting out on drums or adding another instrument to their
repertoire. Provided great insight that also helped in cross-training, if already playing another instrument."
In the age of reality television, talent isn’t always a prerequisite to stardom, but some of today’s celebrities are legitimately multi-talented -- and some of them are even drummers.
Here are 10 celebrities who play drums.
1. Miles Teller
If you saw Miles Teller play drums in "Whiplash", you probably thought he had a double, or that the filmmakers used camera tricks or CGI, but that was actually the actor playing the drums.
Not only was Teller a rock drummer as a teena …
