Jessica is a virtuoso on the ukulele. She has the patience of a saint with less than adept students. Yet she is insistent, in a gentle way, about instilling correct form in her students' approach to the uke. In addition, she is a walking encyclopedia of songs that span the range from traditional to standards to current day favorites, and from country to r&B to rock and roll.

I am so fortunate to have found Jessica to teach the Ukulele. She is sweet, kind and truly a pleasure. very unassuming yet so focused on my particular needs when I lose my way. I strongly recommend her. I am so fortunate. Wait, did I say that already? Thank you Jessica.
I have been songwriting for over 32 yrs. I focus on the creative process of songwriting and tapping into the core ideas that help bring the individual to the for front of originality.
Knowing at the age of 5 that music was my life, by being brought up surrounded by praise music and gospel, my early exposure to music helped me to find every Instrument and style just my thing! I wanted to play everything and learn all aspects of music. I started with singing in the children's choir and then developed into piano and music theory. At the age of 12 I began to learn classical guitar, and at 15 took on various styles like Flamenco, Jazz and Rock. I graduated from High School having played in the school band achieving recognition In national Institutions Like IAJE (International Association for Jazz Education) and state band finals. I was also composing from a very early age, and at 18 released my first album (self-titled) which can still be heard and purchased today through various music outlets, since i have released over 15
albums with various ensembles and bands. In college I already knew from my previous experience that I wanted to teach and pass on the joy that music brought to my life. I studied Music Theory and Jazz and finished my degree in Music Education. I have been teaching all in all for about 14 yrs. And I have enjoyed every minute I have spent with my students learning as much from them, as them from me. I am looking forward to meeting new and eager students who really want to bring their inner music out to share with the rest of us music aficionados! and develop their skills to the peak of their abilities.
*** Lesson Details *** My teaching method ranges depending on the student. I believe in my experience that everyone learns differently, therefore everyone develops at their own pace. I try to find key strengths in each student and expose this to their advantage, using their abilities to further develop their skills, this method has shown the most promising results and students usually find themselves playing and performing just a couple of months after their first lessons. Part of my method involves a lot of performance and recital opportunities to help break any fears and inhibitions a student may bring with them. Music is about sharing, so an early exposure to this method helps to strengthen and stabilize a core acceptance of a students style and path, giving them and those close to them a very clear picture of their development and achievements.
*** Studio Equipment *** Has all instruments at both his home and college studio
*** Travel Equipment *** I provide lesson material, song charts and a progression scale. I require student to have an Instrument and recommended technique literature.
*** Specialties *** My classical training began in High School with Influences in Segovia, and Romero I studied classical for 4 yrs. and trained in Jazz and Improvisation with performances In Big Band and group ensemble. Also sang and played in the school gospel choir.
If you needed a reason
There is no question that music touches us instantly and activates images, emotions and memories that linger with us throughout our lives. As a casual listener or an obsessive music elitist, there are times in our lives when we get blown away by a sound so unique our entire body vibrates and resonates with the touch of something out of this world. I can honestly say when this happens to me I feel as close to a spiritual connection than anything I have experienced otherwise. I believe it is these exact events that have triggered my need to be completely involved in the making, performing and consuming of music. The creative process, to me, is the single obvious reason we exist in this world. We create and share, learn and interpret, build on previous ideas and inspire others to perfect upon this process. It is no doubt a very humbling experience to realize you are part of it all. During this process you come to realize how important you are as an Individual, how there is no other vessel like you in this world, nor has there ever been or ever will. You are here now and your voice, your talent, your gift is an instrument to the great choir of the human spirit. No one but you can relate this, a reason to be, to create, to give.

Hi, there! My name is Nicole and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2009 and have loved helping my students discover and define their unique style, improve their approach and technique, and create success by their OWN definition in their respective or intended fields of work and study! I went to both Langston University and the #1 Jazz Studies program in THE WORLD at University of North Texas. I have studied vocal music performance, public speaking and small business/entrepreneurship. I'm a positive and passionate person and my teaching style is personal, fun, and positive results driven. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!
Nicole is a very good tutor. She listens to your requirements and then puts together the right exercises for your lessons. Very enjoyable and informative. Looking forward to my next lesson!

This is one of my favorite aspects of music- song creativity & arrangement! I can teach many styles of songwriting- rock, pop, blues, jazz, country, classical, etc. Whatever the student is interested to understand the concepts and theories to writing a good song.
A fun, friendly, and professional Music Instructor at your service for Voice, Guitar, Piano, Bass, Drums, & Ukulele! I have a BA degree from Florida Atlantic University in Music Performance for Classical/Flamenco/Jazz/Blues guitar and I've also performed on the Piano/Keyboards for a couple different bands too. Love to play & teach pretty much all styles of music! It is always a pure joy & truly rewarding to see my music students grow and flourish in their musical abilities. I have been enjoying doing this now for 20+ years- all ages & levels. I am also in a multi-dimensional rock project and a recording artist with my band Vision.
I believe it's important to learn the rudiments of music to build a good foundation (scales, chord vocabulary, theory, song-composition, performing techniques), but I also base the lessons on whatever th
e interests and strengths are for the student. For example, if you enjoy jazz more than classical we'll focus more on what you are particularly passionate about. I have also been a part of School of Rock Programs in which we provided performances for the students a la Jack Black. Please contact Takelessons to let the musical journey begin...
Songwriting lessons are in some ways similar to Composition Lessons (see "Composition") with a focus on popular songwriting, including musical theater and commercial music. You will learn about harmony and form, but lyric writing and also how to tell a story through song. You will also work on how to create a catchy hook, how to keep your song focused and clear, how to create a "turn" at the end, and how to grab and keep the listener's attention.
Natalie is a NYU and BMI Workshop trained composer of songs, musicals, and concert music who has helped many songwriters find their voice and fine-tune their skills. She is particularly adept at identifying what is keeping a song from working (whether it be music, lyrics or both) and helping writers get to the heart of what they want to say.
Natalie's work has been heard in New York at Lincoln Center, 54 Below, The Duplex, Laurie Beechman Theatre, The Flea Theatre, and Greenwhich Music House, as well as in San Diego, LA, and Nashville. She wrote the music, book and lyrics to Home/Front which was produced in 2014 to sold-out audiences. It was a semi-finalist in the New York New Work Festival in 2016 and in currently in development for a U.S. base tour.
Other musicals include: Across a Wire (reading 356 Studios, New York, NY), Hall
Pass ("Flyers and Fryers," Rancho Bueno Visto High, produced by Blake McCarthy), The Big C (songs, Dramatists Guild), "Performance Anxiety" (music/lyrics, The Flea Theatre, Raw Impressions Musical Theatre Marathon), andThe Music of Natalie Lovejoy (The Duplex). She is listed in The Directory of Contemporary Musical Theatre Writers at Contemporary Musical Theater.
Natalie holds a Masters in Music Composition and Theory from New York University where she studied songwriter and concert composition with Dr. Steven Rosenhaus. Natalie is an alumnus of the famed BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop in New York whose other alumni include Alan Menken, Robert Lopez (Avenue Q, Frozen), Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home), Tom Kitt (next to normal), and Flaherty & Ahrens (Ragtime). She also studied songwriting through the Johnny Mercer Workshop at Northwestern University with Craig Carnelia, and Andrew Lippa, Nashville songwriter Lari White, and Amanda McBroom ("The Rose").
Natalie loves working with composers and songwriters of all ages and ability levels. Please click on individual lessons to learn more.
"I took composition lessons with Natalie and looking back on my work before starting with her, it was scattered, lacked structure, needed honing. She is already a crazy talented composer herself and it translates to her teaching. Natalie is really great at asking the right questions. Why did you write this? What are you trying to say with this piece? What feeling are you trying to tap into with those chords? I can attest to writing with much more confidence and just as important, REWRITING with much more confidence. If the song doesn't work she will let you know but subsequently, she will let you know what DOES work and what to build on. Very supportive, as well as very critical, in the best possible way. It means she cares about the work you're creating. So much so that after running several rounds of rewrites by her, I completely trust the product I am putting out there. I will continue to come back to Natalie to hone my craft." -- Tristan S, composition student, New York, NY
As a professional composer of over fifteen years, I absolutely love having the chance to share my experience to help songwriters of all levels continue to grow and improve and refine their abilities. Songwriting is both one of the most challenging and most rewarding musical subjects to teach. Every student brings such diverse interests, skills, and goals to the table, and therefore, each curriculum of study can vary greatly. However, nearly every student I work with will spend time focusing on three key areas of study: first, refining the basic and essential technical skills of songwriting (understanding the principles of melody and harmony and lyrics and the ways in which they intertwine); second, and understanding of what songs mean and the ways in which songwriters go about passing that meaning along to their audiences (which will involve a good amount of listening and analysis); and finally, developing their own voice as a songwriter, so that they can say what they mean to say in ...
Teaching and playing music have always been closely linked for me throughout my career. I began performing professionally at thirteen, and two years later began giving private lessons, constantly incorporating new techniques and lessons I was learning from my gigs into my teaching curriculum. This early start in both areas has provided a wonderful foundation for my teaching and performing careers, both of which have continued for more than a decade and a half. During that time, I've had the joy of working with students of all ages as a drum instructor at Northfield Mount Hermon, a music teacher at Greens Farms Academy, a general music and chorus teacher at Amherst Middle School, a summer music instructor at Deerfield Academy, and with continued private lessons. I've also recorded drums on over 20 albums and played hundreds of shows with a
diverse group of artists across the country.
In my lessons, my highest priority is meeting students at their level and making sure that our work is helping them to progress towards theirs goals as a musician/instrumentalist. With a combination of focus on musicality, technique, and developing a musical vocabulary, students will both improve their fundamental skills on their instrument, while also expanding their more general musical understanding, all within a safe, supportive, and encouraging learning environment. I look forward to working with you!
Jan is one of the most nurturing people I've had the pleasure of being around. She's constantly helping me with all aspects
of my career, including gaining my own students. She takes the time to ask how I'm doing personally and does whatever she can to encourage me. Jan has given me many tools that have greatly increased my skill as a vocalist, and the things she has done for my songwriting are revolutionary! She's been able to get me to think of my songs as a story, with the angle of thinking about writing a movie script, an entire story before I even begin to write lyrics. It's me write much better songs and I could not have done that without her. I highly recommend!"
"Enormous Student base an affirmation of an Enormously Successful Teacher
Fawn is a warrior for justice. She rights all the wrongs of other teachers bad c
oaching. She turned my sons bad piano habits around in just 2 lessons! My daughter's bad vocal habits changed after the first lesson! I have never seen anything like it. We are grateful to have found her. I now have confidence that my children are in the best hands possible. I love the energy she puts into her recitals and the enormous student base she has is an affirmation that she is doing great things in California!
"Fantastic lessons! I learned a lot about songwriting and even made a portfolio of songs I've written!"
"Any time I've needed guitar help with songwriting, Garrett has always come in with something and we've come up with some pretty good songs. I'd recommend
him to anyone!"
"Indigo is a fabulous and diverse teacher! I've been taking lessons with her for about 9 months. Although my lessons are "officially" for songwriting, we
divide our time among that, guitar technique, and music theory. I've experienced so much progress and fun in several areas, and I attribute that to Indigo's teaching and guidance. I even wrote and produced my first solo song! Don't miss the chance to work with a great musician and teacher!"
I've learned a lot about playing guitar, songwriting, recording, and singing from Omar and taking lessons with him definitely has helped me
become a better musician. The lessons are interesting, fun, and really helpful. Great teacher."
"Fawn is an investment in my future, money spent well
Fawn takes you on an unexpected fun, whirlwind of learning when you take lessons with her. Canât r
ead the notes? No problem, sheâs got you. Vocal problems? Oh yeah, she fixes that too. Trouble in the studio? Voice off pitch? Need mic technique? Weak on piano? Sight singing? Canât play the blues? Canât play classical? Need to learn how to write a song? Canât find a hook for your song? Donât worry, Fawn to the rescue! Seriously, is there nothing this woman canât do? I soak up her wisdom like a sponge. Iâm currently working in the studio with her on my debut album and we are half-way finished. It is sounding ah-may-zing! I am learning so much from this studio wiz. Having her in my life the past 3 years has been the right choice and an investment in my future. Hereâs to another successful year with Fawn on my team."
Hi I am Matt Ellis and I have been taking lessons with Kimberly for about 5 months. My singing ability has improved incredibly. When you
sit in on a lessons with Kimberly she analyzes your voice very carefully and matches exercises to what she thinks is best for you.Personally I have had trouble with sustaining my voice for long periods of time due to vocal damage.I noticed right away after my first couple of lessons my voice just seemed healthier and in better shape with the exercises we did.Now my voice sustains better than ever! With a larger range and I now have a ear for Harmony as well. I would suggest Kimberly to anyone who wants to improve there voice and learn in a very comfortable environment.Within the first 10 minutes of my first lesson I was totally comfortable to just let loose and sing!Without being worried about my tone because she creates a very safe atmosphere for improvement. So If your looking for great lessons and a great teacher GO TO KIMBERLEY!"
"I had the pleasure of attending Jan's "Acting for Singer/Songwriters" class at The Songwriting School of Los Angeles. A door opened for me. I became more
courageous. It was a process. And I am forever grateful to Jan for helping me uncover more of my soul's voice."
The late Amy Winehouse tribute album Lioness: Hidden Treasures has been making waves on the UK music charts, securing the #1 spot just days after its release. Although the posthumous album has had its share of drama and questionable reviews, the collection - with its mix of covers and raw, unfinished tunes polished up by the producers - seems fitting in depicting Amy as the troubled, tattered star that she was.
As she sings at the start of "Best Friends, Right?": "I can't wait to get away f …
