David enjoys teaching students from all different backgrounds and levels of proficiency. Whether you are just starting out or a virtuoso shredder in the making, he is happy to teach you! Over all, he is fairly laid back, as long as you practice. He usually combines work with reading off of the treble clef (what he likens to "eating your vegetables." You may not want to do it, but it will make you a healthier musician!) with learning more popular songs (or songs the student says they would like to learn) through tablature and chord charts, depending on the style of the song.
David is also very pro music theory. He usually incorporates music theory into the curriculum in conjunction with the material already being discussed. He is also very knowledgeable about composition/songwriting, and if the student is interested in learning more about this area, he is happy to share what he knows!
David is a successful singer/songwriter/guitarist out of Fairfax, VA. He has a bachelor's degree in Music with a concentration in composition from Salisbury University, where he also studied jazz and classical guitar . In the 25 years he has been performing (20 of those professionally) and playing guitar, he has released 4 CDs and written over 200 original songs. He has opened for major national acts like Journey, Maroon 5, Toby Keith, My Chemical Romance, The Used, Thrice, Story of the Year, The Bouncing Souls, Eric Hutchinson, Virginia Coalition and Graham Colton. In the process, he has performed at such notable venues as FedEx Field, Nationals Park, Jiffy Lube Live/Nissan Pavilion, the 9:30 Club, The Hamilton and Rams Head Live.
As a teacher, David has taught in numerous locations in the Maryland area for the last 23 years. H
is students generally range anywhere from 4-70+ years old and come from a wide range of backgrounds and levels of proficiency, from basic beginners to advanced. Some of his students have also gone on to pursue careers in music, others have just learned as a hobby, and some have been somewhere in between the two. All are welcome!

*** Specialties *** Pop, rock, jazz, blues, classical, metal and funk.
I had to switch the lesson to in-home roughly 3 hours before the scheduled lesson. David was great and accommodating. He gave me a crash course on scales, which I didn't know anything about, and explained them so that I actually started to understand.

My first lesson with David was excellent! He is very patient and knowledgeable. I now have extremely high expectations for learning to play the guitar. I highly recommend him. He gave me a thorough explanation about how guitars are made made, the parts, we tuned the guitar and I am ready to groove!

Miss Lisa is very nice, patient and encouraging! My daughter loves her!

Lisa is amazing at teaching. I was looking for singing lessons since a friend of mine asked to sing at her wedding and I am grateful I found Lisa. She has help me with the song, gave me vocal and breathing techniques to reach high tones and even fix the guitar tablatures to match my voice to play it at the wedding. I will keep taking more lessons!!
Experienced in contemporary song writing, as well as writing and arranging music for church worship music, choral music, strings, and classical guitar. Experienced in both playing and recording by ear, as well as writing down formal music charts and scores.
I played on a toy piano when I was very young, learning a bit of sight reading from my Mother, while listening to classical, jazz, and rock music. When I was 12, I learned guitar and later took private piano lessons from a prominent Philadelphia instructor. After playing in a rock band in high school, I went to college and received my degree in Physics. During this time, I joined a choir, and sang and played guitar in a contemporary vocal group where I became the lead guitarist and vocal arranger, and later became the director. I also played guitar in my church, as well as in a small folk group, performing music of the Beatles, Bacharach, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, and many others. I also played or sung in a number of weddings during my college days.
Upon graduation, I moved to the DC area to work in the engineering field, while s
imultaneously pursuing my music ambition. I studied classical guitar at American University with a student of the great Andres Segovia, and also studied jazz guitar with a former student of a prominent jazz guitarist, Pat Martino. Additionally, I sang in choirs and studied composition privately with a prominent Washington area composer and performer from Catholic University, I also began to teach at an area performing arts academy.
My most long-term experiences in music have been serving in my local church for over 30 years, either playing guitar (acoustic, electric, bass), piano, or arranging vocals in a contemporary worship band. I also started a church choir, and led both choir and small orchestra in a number of special performances. Additionally, I led congregational worship in different scenarios. During this time I also taught students of all ages guitar, piano, and music theory, and have continued to today in helping students to find their musical potential and pursue their musical ambitions.
I have recently retired from my engineering career so I can use my musical gifts in my local church and teach music as a second career. I have completed my second degree at George Mason University, and continue to play with other musicians there. More importantly, I continue to learn how to better teach others of all ages how to grow in all aspects of music-making.
*** Lesson Details *** Having taught for many years, my approach is flexible and I can adjust my teaching style and/or curriculum to maximize the student's potential for learning at any age. I encourage disciplined practice while working to make learning music an enjoyable experience. Although I specialize in guitar styles, I also teach piano, and can include music theory, sight reading, composition, and how to improvise on any instrument. I have taught improvisation on a number of different instruments such as violin, cello, flute, and clarinet.
Here are some testimonials from present or former students/parents:
"Mr. S. is very earnest; when he gives you a compliment, you can tell he really means it. He's very patient and experienced and skilled and he is willing to take what he's teaching down to my level to help me understand it." Gregory K., age 10 Geoff is a patient and encouraging instructor. He tailored my lessons towards the skills that I needed. He provides the necessary encouragement when the long hours of practice seem impossible to sustain. I could write a book about Geoff's credentials: highly qualified is an understatement. -- Neal B. Mr. S. is awesome at playing and teaching guitar, and he is nice and helps you. -- Michael B., age 12 I'm sure I could learn to Play Guitar Today using books and videos, but I think I'm on the right track with private one-on-one instruction. Linda H. The guitar lessons are fun, interactive, and instructive. A great way to make learning a delight! Gina R., parent

*** Specialties *** I teach any style of guitar, including classical and jazz. I also teach improvisation or "playing by ear" on any instrument; my experience includes piano, violin, cello, clarinet, and flute. I'm very familiar with 60's music (e.g., Beatles) I've performed a lot of folk music, rock music, and classical music I've played classical guitar and in classical and jazz ensembles at weddings and other special events.
I totally enjoyed my class with Geoff. We immediately started my lesson with tuning the ukulele. Then we went over the cords and strumming. I have been researching on playing the ukulele and his explanation on the strumming was a lot better than the book. He is teaching me how to play by listening to the notes which is great because I would be able to play the Hawaiian music for my hula classes. In addition, his studio is only a 5 minute drive from my house, which means I don’t have to deal with traffic.

Geoff is great! Really knows what he’s doing. I’ve learned a lot in the three weeks that I’ve been working with him.
Nobody can write a hit song on their first try. There is a saying: It takes ten years of practice to become an overnight success. Well, with my assistance and expertise, you could shave a few years off this timeframe. It takes many years of trial and error to be able to find your voice and create well-crafted and mature music, but I can definitely guide you. I have been a songwriter for well over 15 years and I guarantee my knowledge and experience would be extremely valuable for a new or aspiring songwriter. If anyone would like to hear some of my original work, just message me.
I have been playing guitar for over 20 years. I was blessed to have a great instructor who motivated me and provided me with a great foundation to build upon. I would like to be able to pay it forward and do the same for you. I studied music at UMBC, and I received certifications in audio production and recording techniques from the Omega Studios School of Recording Arts and Sciences. Along the way, I have learned how to play many other instruments and sing. I have worked with many great musicians over the years, been in several bands, recorded professionally in several studios, and performed in numerous venues around the country. I worked in musical instrument sales for 4 years, so I have a vast knowledge of musical gear, and would like to share that knowledge with you. My current passion is to put my knowledge and experiences to use i
n guiding students to learn everything they will need to know to become the musician they aspire to be.
I love teaching! I love connecting with people to find out what inspires them and I feel that I learn as much from my students as I teach them.
I have almost 30 years of playing experience in a variety of styles and over 20 years of experience teaching the guitar to many hundreds students of all ages and backgrounds. I have taught in many different situations, including through schools, music stores and privately. I am primarily trained as a classical guitarist and I hold a Master of Music Degree in Guitar Performance from The Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University. I have been told by many of my students that I am patient, understanding, very approachable and fun.
Whatever our goals may be in learning to play a musical instrument, the experience and skills we gain in doing so can serve us in every area of our li
Music is for me a journey of self-discovery. I would love to share in and be a guide on your journey too!
I started taking lessons with Roger almost an year ago. I was completely clueless when I signed up for classes. He convinced me that I can play a musical instrument. He has guided me a lot throughout. From picking up a guitar, to teaching me my first song. He is very passionate about music and that shows from his work as a musician and as a teacher. Roger tries to make sure that his students love music the same way he does. As a teacher he is very patient and flexible. He tailors each class to his student's needs.
He is one of the greatest teacher I have worked with. I really look forward to my lesson every week.

Roger teaches our 8 year-old daughter introduction lessons for guitar. His casual approach and friendly demeanor are a perfect approach. Our daughter anticipates weekly interaction with Roger; she considers him a friend who plays guitar games and patiently listens to her stories while they play.
Roger is both a skilled musician and measured teacher focused on the long-game of loving music rather than immediate gains. We are very please with his work.

Roger was my first guitar teacher, and one of the best teachers that I've had the pleasure to work with. As a professional guitarist, I have had the chance to look back on when I was studying with Roger and compare my opinion now to the opinion I had while I was studying with him. My opinion now is the same as it was back then: Roger is an exceptionally capable and talented educator. He is very easy to work with and is always flexible in each lesson. Flexibility is important; an ideal teacher will have lesson plans with specific skills that he/she feels the student needs to learn, but they will also allow the student's current interests to guide the lessons. Roger was always happy to address any questions or concerns I had, but also made sure to guide my attention to critical skills that helped me grow as a musician. One such skill is proper technique, which is necessary for improving the student's ability to play and for preventing injury. With his background as a classical guitarist, Roger was able to teach me perfect left and right hand technique, which is something I still consider to be one of my strongest assets as a guitarist. His skills and interests extend far beyond classical guitar into genres like rock and jazz. In our lessons we would work on just about anything. We covered topics and styles like Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Wes Montgomery, improvisation, James Taylor's fingerstyle playing, music theory, and sight reading. Overall, I found Roger to be an ideal teacher for students at any skill level, from total beginners to those who are highly experienced.
Having written many songs, both for demos and my album, I can teach lyric choice, vocal and guitar phrasing and common pitfalls for songwriters.
I have been playing guitar and bass for over 35 years and traveled the world playing concerts in Clubs and Stadiums. My band ESTUS was signed to Columbia Records by Clive Davis, I played with the Eddie Kirkland Blues Band, formed Fat City in Woodstock NY, and played toured nationally with Quicksilver Messenger Service. Currently I play in RSB, the Rick Sickmen Band, and teach at the School of Rock in Vienna. I want to share my knowledge and extensive experience with students to 'play it forward' while having fun.
*** Lesson Details *** From beginners to experienced players everyone has their own goals and style of learning. I will try to have my students playing songs as soon as possible, in the style (rock, blues, country) that they want, while teaching some basic music theory to build on. My studio is fully equipped with instruments,
amps, recording equipment, drums and PA system.
*** Studio Equipment *** guitars, amps, drums, 16 track recorder, soup to nuts
I encourage all students to try writing music or at least coming up with their own basic ideas. I will then work with the student's ideas to help them learn how to develop an initial idea into a large more complete musical form. If the student is able to write more complete songs I will coach them in techniques to improve the structure, harmony and melody of their work. I try to demonstrate ways that they can improve their writing without simply rewriting their ideas for them. For all of this I draw on my many years of experience as a composer. I try to guide the student towards developing a process of writing music that works for them. My main goal is to help them to grow into their own musical voice rather than to simply do what I suggest.
I have been teaching guitar for 25 years in the Washington DC metro area. I work with students 12 years of age and up, but I am especially experienced at teaching adult students regardless of whether they are beginners or have previous guitar experience. I have performed in acoustic Celtic, new age, funk, progressive rock, fusion and contemporary jazz groups and am currently performing regularly as a solo acoustic guitarist. I have composed over 40 works for solo guitar as well as numerous pieces for small jazz bands. I have played on numerous CDs including my most recent solo CD 'DARK MATTER'.
*** Lesson Details *** I tailor the lesson materials to suit the interest of the student but I am dedicated to teaching students at any level to learn to better understand the fundamentals of the language of music. My teaching focuses on critic
al fundamentals of guitar technique including chords, scales and rhythm guitar playing as well as the art of improvisation. A significant amount of time in the lessons is spent actually playing with the students so that the technical concepts are put to use in real music situations. To further the student's understanding of music I frequently teach elements of music theory to those who are interested.
*** Studio Equipment *** I have guitars and amps available for student use although I prefer that the student bring their own instrument. I also have all the needed accessories, cables, stands etc.
*** Specialties *** Adult students (and older teenagers ) whether beginners or experienced are a particular specialty of mine. Adult learners want to be treated as adults and often times benefit greatly from a more mentor oriented approach to teaching. I like to describe myself as both a teacher and a coach so as to emphasize that the student and I are on the same team sharing the goal of improving their guitar playing and musicianship. We are both on the same path of musical discovery. I am probably just farther along on that path with insights and knowledge that will hopefully help them along their way.
Dennis has a great comprehensive approach to teaching guitar. He helps you understand the nuances of the instrument, and provides specific instruction based on your individual needs. He has a wealth of experience and knowledge, and shares anecdotes about those experiences to help better understand topics relevant to your own personal pursuit of improved playing.
Even if you aren't sure exactly what you want to get out of lessons, Dennis is quick to provide material that will help you improve your skills. They are laid out in a clear way and act as a great resource to add to your collection of practice material.
I'm happy I took lessons with Dennis, and others should definitely work with him if looking for a laid back atmosphere and a steady pace of improvement and understanding.

Dennis was my instructor and is a bit modest about his experience. He taught me on my mom's crappy nylon stringed spanish acoustic guitar back in the 80s. I hope he reads this and remembers the little studios at Fox's Music in Falls Church. He patiently taught me Rick Springfield songs, probably against his taste and better judgment. Anyway, he got me started in my teens and I'm still playing some of the tunes he taught me (plus a few hundred others) on a slightly nicer guitar these days, in my 40s. Keep rockin', Dennis, and thanks for helping spark a hobby I still enjoy decades later!

Dennis is a friendly and kompetent teacher and I am looking forward to his next lesson!
I can help you to tell your story through song: working with melody, lyrics, chords/accompaniment and/or interpretation to create a moving musical connection within yourself, and with your audience.
I am a professional singer-songwriter and have been teaching lessons fulltime for the last 12 years. I teach students of all ages and levels of experience. My current range of students include: kids with learning/developmental disabilities, teenagers who have starred in school musicals, and performing adult singer-songwriters. Whatever your background or desire, I can help you to cultivate your unique musical potential, and to strengthen your creative voice.
As a professional vocalist and pianist, I have worked freelance, in a variety of settings, over the years--including solo, in wedding bands, small jazz and rock/pop groups and with big bands. I have been singing with the Mood Swings Big Band for 6+ years. During that time, we have performed at the White House, the Chamber of Commerce and in Kennebunkport, Maine (at the Bush e
I also have an extensive professional and personal background in meditation (10 years), astrology (5 years) and healing (particularly Reiki, 4 years). I am very interested in the intersection between a healing/mindfulness-awareness approach and singing/playing piano.
Jennifer was very attentive and worked very well with my 6 year old!

I read previous reviews which assisted me in selecting Jen. After connecting with her I realized she had the perfect location (less than 10 mins from my house in Catonsville) and professional patience with my twin 14 yr old sons. They had a little experience before the lessons with Jen, but after only a few lessons, their piano/keyboard playing was much sharper than before. She has a beautiful voice and the boys always felt really positive after each lesson. They were more eager to practice at home to demonstrate the skills she taught them previously. Also, Jen hand writes lessons for the boys, which helped them better understand sheet music. She's a Gem. Well worth the investment!
Jan is an excellent teacher! She is very creative, fun to work with and puts heart into everything she teaches. Her professional expe
rience and knowledge cover a broad range of musical talents which is perfect for me because she is able to help me with my vocal techniques, dramatic expression and also my songwriting skills. She has opened my eyes to discover the whole story in my songs and uncover deeper emotions in my performances. My wife & daughter have also taken singing lessons from Jan and enjoy her very much."
"Fawn is an incredible songwriter and coach! She has turned my mediocre songs into hits and I have placed several on television shows since she helped me m

So incredibly sweet, talented, and such an amazing teacher! From the moment I met fawn we immediately connected. She genuinely cares
and makes you feel so comfortable, so opening up to her when it came to writing songs was incredibly easy and natural. Very giving with her time and she will help you tackle any problems you're having in order to achieve your goals."

Earlier this week, Eddie Vedder announced the venues for his upcoming solo tour, stopping in 13 cities to promote his 2011 album "Ukelele Songs." The tour begins on April 11th in Las Vegas, and then works across the country, ending on May 16th in Orlando. Pearl Jam embarks on its European tour just one month after.
Vedder's passion-filled lyrics, ranging in topics from personal to political, have made him one of the most prominent songwriters of the rock-and-roll genre. Pair that with his …
