I have 17 years experience performing drum set, hand drums, mallets and many other percussion instruments. I received a Bachelor's in Music for Percussion Performance and Music Education from the Sacramento State School of Music and I received my Master's in Music for Percussion Performance from the University of Nevada, Reno. I have experience teaching in public schools (high school and middle school levels), the collegiate level, music camps, and I have maintained a private studio for over two years. I have a method of teaching based on what you want to learn while also going over technique, posture, musicianship and music theory. My teaching is based entirely on the student as many people have different ways of learning so I do my best to make myself clear. My goal is to make lessons fun and informative, so let's enjoy the journey of making music!

My music lessons are fun and educational. Students are busy and dealing with life. Music should not be another thing you "get through". Whether you're young and dealing with multiple subjects in school or you're an adult with a job and responsibilities, music should be the place to escape all of that. I want to teach you whatever you would like to learn and develop a curriculum based on your own wants.
Want to learn songs from your favorite bands? Great! Let's do that!
Want to prepare for college auditions to become a music major? I can help you with that!
Want to play music with your friends and be a part of a cool band? I've been there and done that, and can help you with that too.
Whatever your reason for playing music, whether its for fun or scholarships or auditions or whatever, music should be FUN! I want to help you with that.
There are materials like "Stick Control" and "Survival Guide for the Modern Drummer" but at the end of the day, I want to help you play music, ...

I'm a full time touring musician, I studied music in school for 8 years, but I can honestly say I've learned more about music through my years as a touring musician. I find great joy in sharing all the things I've learned over the years.
I like getting to know my students; their expectations and goals as an aspiring drummer, and I build my curriculum around their needs.
In my lessons you can expect to learn, and have fun!

In the beginning, I was hesitant to pick up a new instrument. However, after the first lesson with Mr. Michael, I wanted to learn more.
Mr. Michael is so friendly and outgoing. Mr. Michael stands out as a music teacher because he makes the lessons fun by incorporating the student’s interests, whether it’s death metal or cool jazz! The worksheets never feel like homework. I’ve noticed a huge improvement just after a few lessons. His lively personality is so encouraging, and I look forward to every lesson.
Every lesson is tailored to the student’s strengths and weaknessses; he provides worksheets that are challenging but not overwhelming. When going over difficult material, he breaks it down and follows up with praise and positive comments. I never feel discouraged. The lessons are structured yet engaging. After every lesson, I feel a sense of accomplishment and the urge to practice.
If you have been searching for a drum teacher, Mr. Michael is the guy! He is a lively teacher that is passionate about his work. You will not regret choosing Mr. Michael as your teacher!"

Matt teaches my 10 year old on drums and has done an amazing job. He has instilled the basics and foundation of drumming while still holding the interest of my son. At the same time he is developing his ear and teaching him how to play and adapt to different styles of music.
I highly recommend Matt for all ages of drumming kids and adults alike."

Casey has been an amazing drum teacher. He understands my style of music and motivates me to become a better performer. I've improved lightyears since taking lessons fro him. He always has a positive attitude and is extremely reliable and punctual, which can be very rare in the music industry. I am so happy I met Casey!"

How long does it take to learn drums? Find out the reality in this guest post by Seattle, WA drum teacher Mason L... Many of my new drum students ask me this question a few weeks into their lessons: “How long does it take to learn the drums?” The answer to that question depends on what you’re trying to get out of drumming. If you want to master a few songs and beats, it might take a couple months; if you want to be reliable and confident enough to be in a band, it might take a year …
