Murray is patient, encouraging, and obviously very knowledgeable about his subject area. He is also flexible and creative in unpredictable technology related situations. Looking forward to more lessons. I believe I can learn a lot.
Learning is one of my main pursuits. My name is Azuri and I have studied music for over a decade and have my degree in guitar performance from musicians institute. I've had the gift of studying many artistic crafts and spend my time today trying to further my own study, while sharing what I've learned with my students.
Art is one of the most important tools we have as a culture and contains in it a shared history, tradition and the keys to future ones. Whether it be through the primal qualities of music or the impulses of dance, the records of drawing or descriptions of writing, these are the tools for our expression. I have had the great fortune to study, in many different settings, a small piece of these traditions and sharing them is paramount in respect to receiving them. I love sharing knowledge and I hope to elevate yours as a st
Teaching Philosophy -
My teaching philosophy is built on well rounded communication, explanation and examples. So, that a student can truly understand and learn a topic, surrounded in a very humorous, light and supportive environment. Along with being provided good information, a student learns better and feels more motivated to learn when there is a balance of positive support and confidence building accompanied by constructive criticism and examples/information that can help a student assess what ever walls they may be meeting in their musical growth.
I understand that all students/artists have different goals they wish to achieve. So it is very important to me to accommodate each individuals needs and wants to help them grow in the fields they wish too; However, In that I have played music for a long time, I understand there are certain things that a student may not have been exposed to yet; It is important that while focusing on a students artistic goals they respect and are open to the suggestion and guidance of their teacher.
I truly believe music has an amazing influence on the world and has the ability to change peoples way of thinking. Therefore, I try and keep an open awareness to all music, so that I can understand all different musical languages utilized to communicate to people, and I don't believe I will ever know them all. I hold it to attention to influence my students somewhat similarly so that they can shape the landscape of how we communicate musically in the future.
I also try and be very patient with my students. Knowing that when I feel rushed, it makes information more difficult to comprehend, remember and allocate. I love watching the gears run in my students head, so I try and provide information that pushes a student but is within their abilities.
HUMOR is very important. I like to break people out of their shell by telling a joke and hopefully getting one back, so they feel more comfortable and free. One of a Artists worst enemies are nerves. Keeping things light-hearted and maybe even a little small talk can be very helpful to a students development and growth on a topic. After all, Art is meant to be fun and we should enjoy every moment of it, in fact we should enjoy every moment in life period.
I understand music requires focus and discipline and I have certain expectation of a student to understand that and practice. You can't buy chops, you can't buy music theory etc. you can get help but eventually your the one who must understand it and play it.
I am here to help you. Based on what I know and what I have extensively studied, I will do all that I can to help you achieve your musical goals. I am here to answer your questions and help you grow. I love teaching because I love sharing knowledge; As long as your seek it, it is here for you. Otherwise, I'd still love to hear some jokes.

*** Lesson Details *** I'm very disciplined but am also very light hearted. It's important for me to assess things seriously, so that one can understand a topic or piece of information.
I generate my lessons based on the individuals needs and therefore draw from various curriculums, sources and examples, such as : MI curriculum for ear training, Theory, Single string Technique, Reading, Rhythm guitar, Ted Greenes Chord Chemistry, Berklee Guitar Method, as well as The Real Book, other artist books(Eric Clapton, etc.) The Guitar Players Hand Book, Bach pieces and self developed curriculums, relative to the topic at hand and students personal goals, amongst many others.
-Beginning students within three months of consistent lessons should have the ability to solo and playing chords to songs that they are interested in and songs provided in the lesson along with a basic understanding of the major scale and its relationship to all of the diatonic music.
-intermediate students should have an elevated understanding of scale and chord patters along with the theory that explains modal relationships and use of these concepts.
-Advanced students should learn all of diatonic scale shapes and modes assuming they don't already know them in which case their specifically situation will be assessed
-Professional students I expect to have specific questions therefore where they grow should be largely subjective.
Overall, in a short amount of time on a scale of 1 - 10 I expect to in three months at-least elevate a students musical abilities one full point if not more.

My name is Aleksis B., but many of my students know me as Mr. B. I am a professional instructor and performing musician who combines a love of music with a desire to help others who want to achieve their highest musical potential. I try to make that passion show in everything I do.
My education includes classical voice training with Michele Howard Hansen, an opera singer that often performs at the Kennedy Center. I studied piano with Geoffrey Chappell, who writes for Jazz Times. I also received compositional training on multiple instruments from Stanley Cowell, who recorded and performed with legends like Miles Davis.
I have been performing professionally since 1992. I studied education in college and did my student teaching in a music class at Goshen Elementary School in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
I have been teaching music pr
ofessionally now for over twenty years. Some students want to take a few lessons to see if it is something they will enjoy, others have worked with me for over a decade. I have mentored several students who have gone on to professional careers. I have experienced a lot of success teaching young children and those with special needs. I have been blessed with a tremendous amount of patience and truly enjoy teaching anyone who wants to learn.
Whatever your goals or abilities, I look forward to working with you!
*** Lesson Details *** Experience fun based lessons as my teaching approach is relaxed and inspirational. I enjoy working with all ages, adjusting my teaching methods to accommodate your learning style and abilities. Learn to play the music you love! You learn best when you enjoy what you are playing, I can help you play along with your favorites or even write your own songs. I always ask my students at the beginning of a lesson "What would you like to do today?" Then structure the lesson accordingly into a routine that the student can practice on their own. Generally the time is divided into warm ups, learning new material, then picking a fun song the student choses. Whether your interest is Classical, Jazz, Rock, Pop music, etc... I'm here help you reach your goals so let's make your dreams come true with music together!
*** Travel Equipment *** Books, Guitar, music stand, metronome, picks, tuner, page clips, capo, media player, laptop, Keyboard (on request), and recording equipment (on request)
*** Specialties *** With Voice I specialize in helping people prepare for auditions such as American Idol. I have students who simply want to be karaoke stars. I have several professional singers that hire me as a voice coach and producer for recording sessions. I have taught children as young as 2 and those that retired with a lifelong dream to sing. Though my training is classical, I can teach Jazz, Pop, Rock, Rap, R&B, etc...whatever is fun for the student. I highly recommend learning to read music but I do not push it unless parents want their child to.
With Piano I can teach traditionally from Alfred and Bastien Piano Courses depending if they are auditory or visual learners. For Kinesthetic learners I use Hanon scale exercises and Rothman Rhythm Exercises. For those that want to learn notation I introduce classical and Jazz composers unless there is a popular artist/band/movie theme etc...that they would like to learn. However I do not push students to read music unless their parents would prefer it. I tend to keep more students that want to learn to play by ear especially adults by using rhythm training and music theory exercises and then applying them to songs they love. For piano I haven't had much success with children younger than 3. I also have a lot experience working with special needs children.
For Guitar I teach Classical, Acoustic, and Electric all styles and genres. I encourage sight reading but don't mind using tabs. I use more exercises with these students, since the first month students have a hard time making a sound. I try to make the lessons fun by having students strum chords along with songs they chose. I teach lead and rhythm even songwriting and composition. Job satisfaction for me is seeing my students leave a lesson with a smile on their face so I make sure to be a fun based teacher that doesn't give the student a hard time about not practicing.
For Recording and Performance I use the knowledge I gained doing Pro Audio Sales for Guitar Center from 2000-2002 to help clients build their own home studio. I have lots of producers and engineers I work with on a regular basis to produce broadcast quality audio and video recordings and help my students use their lessons and pre-production for those opportunities. I can teach Garage Band or Pro Tools classes on navigating the software and utilizing all the commands. I can also teach room acoustics and using the right microphone and how to position them with the right equipment and the right acoustics to get the best possible tone that they are looking for. I can also teach editing, mixing, looping, sampling, midi, and mastering so that the student can eventually work on their own writing, performing, and recording their music.
I have taught drum set, snare drum technique and percussion for over 25 years. The majority of students study with me for years. Several of my students have gone on to major music schools such as Berklee College of Music. Several students are working with major recording acts such as Linkin Park, Adam Lambert, Paul McCartney and others.

Keith is great! My nearly 6 year old son has only been seeing Keith for a few weeks, but he’s already learned so much. Keith is everything you want in a teacher - he’s funny, patient and has a really great way of explaining drumming concepts is such a way that even a student as young as my son can grasp. Even my son has said Keith is a great teacher!

I am a classically trained percussionist with a great deal of performance experience in different musical contexts.
I have been teaching privately since 2010, when I accepted a position as a graduate assistant at Bowling Green State University. My responsibilities included teaching private lessons to undergraduate percussion majors and coaching percussion ensembles. I began teaching students from middle school through high school age around the same time, and my students have since included a number of adults.
I enjoy working with students of all ages and levels of experience, as they all bring something unique to their lessons and challenge me to adapt to their varied styles of learning.
My daughter was shy at the beginning, but Stephen was able to warm her up and get her talk. Even she didn't learn a lot, she is excited about the new class coming next week.
Stephen is good at teaching her in different conversations.
He is a good teacher for kids. Highly recommend!

Lessons are tailored to the students' level and goal. Caring and compassionate instructor. Your dream is my dream and I will diligently work with you to help you on your path. If you have the will to learn and practice, you will see improvements and achievements. I've been teaching music to children and adults for about 20 years both privately and at teaching studios. I have played as a substitute church pianist, ballet accompanist, and have spent the last four years playing for a variety of private and corporate events and weddings.
"My 9-year-old son, Luke, who is on the spectrum (PDD-NOS) studied with David for the better part of a year and the experience was terrific. In addition t
o being extremely communicative and reliable, David was kind and patient. David kept Luke focused and entertained while also inviting him to think about rhythm in ways that made sense to Luke's brain. We happily traveled from Inwood to "Downtown Brooklyn" for lessons because the level of instruction was that good and, I think, Luke's progress demonstrates that. Luke was bitten by the hockey bug, so we are taking a break from percussion right now, but I wouldn't hesitate to return to David's studio should time allow in the future."
"Alex is Very knowledgeable. He was great with my 13-year-old daughter. She learns a lot from him and really enjoys working with him. He is very good teach
er and very patient. I like the fact that he gives her specific homework to work on. I look forward to working with him for a long time."
Henri is great!! He is a super experienced and knowledgable drummer (musician) and teacher. He is extremely patient, has taught me my basi
cs, technique, and is very open to teaching what you want to learn, willing to teach you what you are really interested in musically. At the end of every lesson, he reviews what we learned, writes it and lets me video it so I can practice at home. He has been really flexible, patient, laid back and always down to work on whatever you want but great at coming up with lessons that challenge and excite you as well. I could'nt be more pleased with Henri as a teacher. I always look forward to my lessons."
"My daughter has really been enjoying her lessons with Tracy! Many thanks!"
"Zen is a great teacher. He has taught me polyrhythms, timing, and playing subdivisions with different note groupings in jazz styles. He also shows up on t
ime and prepared to get to business. Id recommend him to anyone looking to learn drums or Ableton!"
Erasmo has been my instructor and has taught me mallet percussion for the past year, and over that year I have improved unbelievably.
He is an amazing instructor, very patient and helps explain so the student can fully understand. I have gotten very far within such little time thanks to him. I have become such a better musician from the time I started learning from Erasmo, and I have gotten many great opportunities to become an even better musician thanks to the instruction I have learned. I would highly recommend him for anyone of any age."
"I was honored to take a hand percussion lesson from David after hearing him perform with a major arena tour and a phenomenal jazz trio!. Although the sett
ing for the lesson happened to be intimidating, David was able to help me focus on my strengths as a player and showed me how to build on them. He excels at building confidence and inspired me to integrate world percussion into my work as an elementary school teacher. I highly recommend him as an educator who knows how to motivate and bring out the best in students. I look forward to taking lessons online in the future!"
"Mike is a very knowledgeable and competent teacher! It is impossible to not learn and learn well from him."
"I have a basic sense and feeling of rhythum but studying under kevin has yielded amazing results. I may not be the next star drummer but he really helped
me hone my skills... he comes highly recommended!!"
