I am very comfortable with all major areas of Percussion: Drumset, Concert Percussion, Marching Percussion, Latin Percussion, Steel Pan, Percussion Ensemble. I work to find effective ways to have people discover their hidden talents and show them how to build skills to play at whatever level they want.

About Kevin
I have a Percussion Performance Degree from Arizona State University, have authored over 6 books on how to play better including: ART Approach to Keyboard Percussion Sightreading, ART Approach to Rhythm!, Turn It Up & Lay It Down, The Book (with Joe Bergamini and Spence Strand) I have over 26 years of teaching experience and constantly work to find better ways to show people how to be great. I am currently working on 4 new books in the Percussion area and about a dozen more for other instruments.I work with each student to find out what motivates them and how to set goals to reach whatever level they seek. I have worked with almost every age possible and find it exciting to see people find out how great they are.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons with me will be positive and you will be pushed to be your best. I work with each student to f
ind out their goals and then show them the fastest and best way to reach those goals. As long as you follow instructions and practice, you can expect amazing results! Most of my students are in the top bands, make All-State auditioned groups, get highest ratings at Solo & Ensemble contests and know how to play!Even when time is a concern, I can still help you move forward. I always take where students are and show them how to get to the next step. I can move at any rate the student wants to move. I am committed to having them have fun and get better!

*** Studio Equipment ***
2 Drumsets, Timpani, Vibraphone, Xylophone, Bells, Snare Drums, marching drum pads, Congas, Timbales, Bongos, Auxiliary Percussion (too many to list) and also TV/Audio equipment to help with playing with music while we do lessons!

I found when I learn new instruments that the biggest obstacle is technique. For my Beginners I concentrate on technique and rudiments
For intermediate students I concentrate on improvisation and learning songs verbatim.
For my advanced students I concentrate on improvisation of coordination exercises and odd meters and tempo modulations

About Michael
Hi I'm Mike!
I've been playing/teaching drums for over 20 years. I started out playing in Punk and Metal bands. I later got interested in Jazz which led me to the University of North Texas. I graduated there in 99 and boy did I learn a thing or two. Attending such a highly competitive school taught me a few things about learning new concepts and setting goals. I have since adopted a philosophy that yields results and have eliminated the "busy work" approach that most drum teachers use. My main interest is to see my students achieve their dreams!

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a pretty laid back teacher. I let student drive the intensity of the lessons. I have a few set goals that all my students must achieve but it is up to the student to determine how soon they meet them. After 3 months my students will be able to play a handf
ul of songs chosen by them. They will also be able to play rudiments as wells as improvise with them on the kit. After 6 months a student should be able to learn drum parts by ear. At that point my students should also be able to take any memorized beats or fills and "remix" them spontaneously!

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons are taught in a separate room which includes 2 drum sets and recording equipment. 1 dog kept separate. Seating available.

*** Travel Equipment ***
The student should provide a permanent space where the drums are located and either a video recorder or hand held audio recorder. The student must also provide a metronome capable of being heard over the drums.

*** Specialties ***
I concentrate on drum set. I teach lots of styles at any level. I encourage learning by ear before I teach reading.

Mike is a great teacher that really understands how to pace his students. As an intermediate drummer, I have been taking lessons with him for a couple of months and really enjoy his style. He encourages improvisation rather than repeating patterns that any old goof could play. In a city where there are probably a lot of jokers trying to teach drums, Mike is one of the few that knows his stuff and knows how to cater to each unique student.

About Nicole
Nicole began her musical journey in Long Island, New York when she began piano lessons at age five. While receiving training on piano, she joined her elementary school orchestra in the 3rd grade and quickly soared with violin. During this period, Nicole began learning music theory and the art of reading music. As a fourth grader, Nicole would go on to conduct and tune every instrument in her orchestra during rehearsal. She always competed and won many NYSMA competitions for violin while attending music seminars and workshops. It was then that her teacher realized she had a gift. Nicole continued with piano lessons and began teaching herself guitar. Later, after college, she bought herself a drum set and began to teach herself drums.
As an adult, Nicole studied to become an elementary teacher and worked in the New York State Sch
ool Districts for over five years. Shortly after receiving her master€'s degree for Literacy Education, Nicole decided to attempt to share her passion for music. In 2007, Nicole opened a music studio in Holbrook, New York. Here, she refined her music teaching skills while establishing Nicolex Inc. Music Island as a leading source of quality music education. Her summer traveling music program allowed her students to experience live performances as well as create music groups with peers with the same passion for music.
Nicole now resides in Tampa, Florida with hopes to spread her business as well as the joy of music to children and adults. She currently is the singer for a local original rock band. In this band, Nicole writes songs, sings, plays guitar/piano (not all at the same time). Needless to say, she understands the importance that music has had in her life and wishes to ignite that passion in other music lovers.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is best labeled as kind but firm. I take my job very seriously and want wholeheartedly for my students to have music as a part of their life, not just a part of their day. I love to laugh and have fun but I will definitely expect my students to practice and complete any homework I assign and be prepared for the following lesson. Simply stated, music is fun and the love of my life, but if I still practice, you will as well. Otherwise, I always believe in teaching songs my students are interested in and will expand their musical skills. My experience as a public school teacher had enhanced my sense of finding individual needs of every student. Therefore, I always differentiate lessons to suit my students interest while teaching them the foundations every musician needs in order to be successful. My specialty is teaching a variety of instruments. I play drums, guitar, bass, piano, and sing as well. So, if one instrument is not for you, I can teach you something different without a problem. Long story short, friends, you are in good hands.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Full Service music room: Keyboard, Full drum kit, Electric Guitar with 30 watts Amp and Microphone/ vocal monitor.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can bring a 76 key Yahama YPG-235 Keyboard for your household to use for lessons for a small monthly rental fee. I have an Epiphone Electric Guitar with 30w amplifier. Will also bring microphone and monitor for vocal lessons.

*** Specialties ***
I have taught mostly Rock, Blues, and Classical genres for Piano, Guitar, Drums. Vocally, I specialize in R&B, Broadway, Pop, Top 100 and alternative/Hard Rock. I will adapt to your needs.

Nicole was patient but not a real positive attitude. We had a hard time warming up to her. She also always seem to cut our 30 minute lesson 5 minutes short which over the 5 weeks cost us 25 minutes of lost lesson time and I don't feel like my son is any further ahead than when he first started.

I have been playing drums for 16 years. It is my true passion. We can go over basics like breathing, technique, posture, holding the sticks, hitting the cymbals and drums, and tuning the drums. We can also get into rhythms, grooves, licks, tricks, fills, odd times, odd subdivisions, reading, learning solos, and more! I'm game for everything. We can set up an extra kit at your place or my place.

About Aaron
I was an engineering tutor at University of Texas at Austin from 2006-2009. I graduated from UT with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2009. I am very familiar with the UT engineering courses (from the beginning to the end).

While I was at UT, I also studied jazz drumming with Brannen Temple. I have been playing professionally for over ten years with lots of different bands. Teaching and playing music are the most gratifying things for me. But I also like to teach math!

I have been teaching high school math, physics, and music theory at Premier High School of North Austin for five years (2009-2014). I am a certified teacher by the state of Texas.

I began playing drums 15 years ago and since then have played drums in a variety of settings. I am comfortable with technique of a wide variety of genres and know how to write drum notation

About Michael
I am a classically trained and professional musician who has worn many different musical hats over the years. I began playing drums when I was 14, in Houston, TX with Craig LeMay, and since then I have learned many different string and world instruments. I studied music theory and vocal performance at the Florence University of the Arts in Italy, taken sitar lessons from Mita Nag in Kolkatta, India, and jazz performance in Austin, TX with Joey Colarusso. I have played in many different bands over the years, such as accompanying Michael Kiwanuka with the musical saw, accompanying Katie Sachs with the musical saw, playing bass guitar with Halaska and DJing private events with Spacecraft Entertainment. I have been teaching music to special education students, in Austin public schools, and foster children with Kids in a New Groove. I have als
o built and modified many of my own instruments and ready to teach you some quirky musical production skills as well. I believe listening and being adaptable to an individual student's needs are the keys to teaching anyone to express themselves through music.

After studying Spanish for 2 years at the university level and extensive travel to Latin America I am fluent in Spanish in both the academic and conversational sides of the language.

Really good teacher. I had never played piano before and Michael was great at instantly giving me things to work on and gave off the impression that lessons were tailored to what I was interested in and the direction I personally wanted to go with the piano. I'd definitely recommend him to anyone else looking for a good instructor in piano or any other musical instrument he works with.

Everything from proper ear training to the correct way to hold your drums sticks. I will be teaching how to influctuate between 1/2 of a beat to 1/16 of a beat. I will be teaching more about rhythm flow and feeling the actual drum set as you play.

About Reece
Hi there! My name is Reece. I have been playing drums and swimming through the waves of music for 22 years now! I currently work a dream job at a recording studio and work as an instructor at this wonderful organization.
I live a purely creative world and try to dive in to a pool of music daily. What you could expect from my sessions is learning to not only count out the beats, but to really be able to flow and adapt to the art of the music. I cater to all learning styles, and would love to unlock your specific kind. I am so excited to meet and create music with you!

She made a customized lesson for my particular learning style (ADD af.) each time that depended on how I did the previous time. Can't wait for more. Feels good to feel myself get better and better!!

Reece is more than just an excellent drummer and instructor. She is an amazing human being. I've worked with her for years on musical collaborations and she has a magical way of communicating about an art (music) that can be difficult to put into words. She is extremely humble and makes you feel comfortable in any situation. Of any musician that I know, hands down, I would choose as a percussion instructor. I CAN NOT RECOMMEND HER ENOUGH!!!

Snare drum and drum kit.

About Darrell
Why these lessons are different:
- Formally trained conductor/composer/producer
- Individual or group session options including full band production
- A long roster of satisfied clients
- Broad base of musical styles (rock, classical, jazz, blues, metal, bluegrass, folk, theater, big band, symphonic, pop, punk, country, march, gospel, avant-garde...)
- Over 20 yrs teaching experience and work with recognized professionals including work in some of the top-rated private schools in the United States
- Over 30 years performing experience

Instrument-specific instruction:
- Voice
- Guitar [Spanish, acoustic, electric]
- Electric Bass
- Piano/Keyboard
- Woodwinds [specializing in saxophones]
- Percussion
- Brass & Bowed Strings [performance preparation only]

My process is based on (but does not adhere strictly to
) the Classical approach to Western tonal harmony and asks that the students develop certain fundamentals of technique and theory. In my experience, this structure creates the strongest foundation for pupils to build the rest of their musical lives on, whether professionally or solely for personal enjoyment. All of my students are on the fast track to studying music theory. Whatever level they are at when I start with them, I guide their efforts into bringing the students up to a certain level of comprehension regarding the mathematical aspects of music and how it relates to their instruments. This understanding of theoretical principles of sound allows the students to play any style of music they wish, no matter how their tastes may change throughout their lives.

Curriculum Gradation:
Elements of rhythm
Elements of pitch
Elements of dynamics
Elements of articulation
Reading/Writing notation
Tone development
Finding/Expanding your range
Dexterity, speed, and accuracy
How to project
How to advance to the next level
Music theory
