As a music teacher of over 15 years I take a fun but structured approach to learning the harp. I've taught all ages and I individually work with each student to help them learn the music that they want to and reach the goals that they set for themselves. I also have a large emphasis on hand position and help my students have the very best technique so they can play their very best. Harp

I am a harpist, pianist, arranger, composer, performer and lover of music. With over 15 years of experience teaching both piano and harp lessons. Although I graduated from Brigham Young University in Idaho with a Bachelors in visual communication, I have continued to stretch my skills as musician and teacher.

I perform frequently and love sharing my passion for the harp and piano through teaching so others can also experience having these beautiful instruments in their lives.

I teach piano and harp students of all different ages and experience levels, although I have an especially great love for teaching children and youth. I studied classical piano for over 12 years, and classic harp for over 11 years. A huge part of my music education was focused on theory and as a result I have a great love of having a strong foundation in musical theory. 

I strive to help my students develop a love music that can last throughout their entire life while still learning proper technique and theory. I try to help students set individual goals and then structure lessons to help these students reach each of their dreams.

Practicing can be hard for any student, but playing music you enjoy can help you stick with it. To inspire my students, I find or arrange music they both enjoy and that will help them progress. I've found that this not only motivates students but also adds an extra fun aspect to our lessons and practices.

My daughter needed beginner lessons for learning the harp and worked with Lydia for several months. She was an incredibly wonderful woman and was extremely patient, offering guidance and providing feedback in order to better improve her work and technique. She wanted to share her gift of music with others and started teaching harp lessons when she was 17. Lydia started her musical journey at age 8 with piano and later adding harp when she was 12. Currently Lydia is a full-time professional harpist and music teacher maintaining a studio of 40 students.  Lydia has performed well over 800 times in Columbus and the surrounding areas and has recorded 3 CDs of her beautiful music. She is the principal harpist for the Cardinal Health Chamber Orchestra and also plays with the orchestra at Northwest Bible Church.

I am a harpist at heart since the day I set my eyes on this angelic instrument at the age of 12. Every sound made is immediately comforting and soothing. My experience ranges from teaching children and adults of all backgrounds. I founded Harp4all Music Conservatory and have regular harp ensemble practices and recitals. I teach from several method books including Harp Olympics and Fun From the First. My teachers Pre collge harp at Jacob’s School of Music in Bloomington under direction of Susann McDonald, private study and masterclasses with Susann McDonald, Elizabeth Richter, Ellie Choate. Hi! My name is Sara. My studio began in 2000, teaching one violin student here in Bloomington. After I moved to California I became a freelance harpist. I performed with many orchestras and performed at Capital Records for the Stan Lee Documentary “With Great Power, The Stan Lee Story”. I started my teaching studio in Riverside, California while still freelancing and earning my A.A. in Music and my Piano Performance Certificate from Riverside Community College in California. I graduated Great Distinction and was on the Dean's list. I received many piano and academic scholarships. While in college I started my studio in Riverside California teaching Piano to an autistic child. I taught him 3 times a week and made exceptional progress. I enjoyed it so much I started teaching full time in 2008 teaching piano, harp, violin, voice, guitar, flute and clarinet. Soon I had 50 students and created a 501 (c) (3) non-profit music school. My students and I perform for the public, including nursing homes. The performances are important for the students progress as well as the Piano Guild where students are adjudicated by judges in a non competitive environment. Moving back to my hometown I have met so many wonderful students! The move was a hard transition, but it introduced me to teaching online. I was sad to be leaving my students and I wanted to find a way to continue teaching them. It was alot more successful than I had thought it would be! My students have been successful and have been preparing for competitions and have completed many successful Piano Guild adjudications. I have traveled many times back to support them in their endeavors. Apart from my already established studio, I have met so many new students in remote areas who wouldn’t have access to a skilled music teacher if it wasn’t for online teaching. FAQs:

Do I need to have any musical experience to learn to play the Celtic harp?

It's not necessary to have any prior musical background before embarking on harp lessons. If you have never taken up an instrument before, Anne will teach you harp technique and how to read music, too. It's a plus if you have some past musical experience, because you'll already know the rudiments of reading sheet music. Anne teaches from ages 7 and up. If your child is younger than 7 and anxious to play the harp, get them started on the piano first. This way, when they come to Anne at an older age, they will already know how to read music (harp sheet music and piano sheet music look alike).

Is the harp difficult to learn?

It's no more difficult to learn than any other instrument. If you really want to learn and you practice, you'll learn quickly. It's all about motivation.

Do I need to own a harp to learn to play?

For online lessons, you'll need to have your own harp. You can also buy a harp from Anne, too! (Note: Anne only rents to students taking in-person lessons, but Anne is happy to help you find a rental in your area)

What does Anne teach?

Anne assesses your goals and your experience before designing a learning path that is right for you. For this reason, her lessons are always one-on-one and not taught in a group fashion. Of course, parents are welcome to sit in on their child's lesson. 

What is Anne's experience?

Anne studied music theory and received her formal music education at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). When the Celtic harp piqued her interest, she studied harp techniques from world-renowned harpist Sylvia Woods and later contributed to her book Music Theory & Arranging Techniques for Folk Harps. Anne also studied professional stage performance with Ed Hooks (San Francisco, CA) and at the Living History Centre (Novato, CA). Anne applied her formal training to teaching music for the Los Angeles Unified School District. She continues to work with students presenting educational demonstrations for school assemblies. Anne has given workshops to students in the Sacramento Waldorf School, El Dorado Union School District, Merced Union High School District, and Minden Elementary School. She has taught harp since 1987, offering educational demonstrations, focused workshops, and taking on private students. She performed on the 2015 GRAMMY® Award Winning Best New Age Album, "Winds of Samsara".

I am learning a lot from Tim, he's a great teacher and player and I have already improved my playing after just a few lessons and started developing some better habits on the harp!

On my lesson today, we discussed using a volume adapter for a voice microphone.  It plugs into the microphone and then the XLR cable plugs into the adapter.  This allow you to sing and then reduce the volume and hold the diatonic harp right against the microphone and use your hands to control the sound.  You need to remember to turn the volume up after your solo, so some practice is needed.  This works like a typical harp microphone and you don't need to change the volume on the PA.  That knowledge was a game changer for me.  Harp Man Dave

I’ve been playing piano for over 10years and have precipitated in many graded performances. I was classically trained through the Suzuki method.  I’ve also been paying and performing on harp for 5+ years. I’ve recently been performing at wedding and other special events on harp and have love every second of it! When I first began playing the harp I did not have a solid foundation in terms of my technique and hand positioning which I found years later was a detriment to my success so I had to begin all over again with my hand technique. This will be one of the first aspects of my teaching I will focus on with my students. I truly believe that is one of the most important parts of being a harpist. Secondly, I believe in having fun and playing pieces that are at a comfortable level for my students, while also pushing them to new challenges but also understanding that every student is different and we all learn differently at various levels. Music is something we can enjoy if we work hard, focus, and think practically on what we want to portray. Music is a wonderful gift to human-kind and as a teacher it is my goal  to spread this wonderful universal language.


Ginger is a prolific harpist currently based in Los Angeles. From classically trained harpist to rocking out on stage with grammy winner Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers, Ginger Rose has been performing for years throughout California. She has also been featured in an MTV interview on the importance of music in schools where she advocates for increasing funding for music programs in public school institutions. During her undergraduate journey at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Ginger performed with conductors such as Edwin Outwater, Michael Morgan, and Earl Lee, as well as played alongside the SF Philharmonic in their Spring 2022 season. While she loves performing and collaborating in live settings, Ginger Rose can also be heard behind the scenes as the harpist for the new Aperture Job Desk video game released in March 2022 by Valve. Ginger is currently studying for her Master’s at the University California of Los Angeles under the wing of Lou Anne Neil, former principal harpist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

I am passionate about creating beautiful music. While Classical music is my favorite genre to perform, I also regularly play harp in contemporary band settings where I improvise my part based off of chord charts. I've played everything from Jazz to Country music. 

I've earned my Licentiate in Performance through the United Kingdom’s Royal School of Music and my Bachelor of Arts in Music with highest honors from Union University. Then, I attended the University of Michigan on a full tuition scholarship and graduated with my Master of Music in Harp Performance with highest honors in 2019.
