There is no substitute for one-on-one instruction tailored to fit each student's needs. Imagine having the chance to practice a sport with an Olympic coach! When you are looking for a good music instructor, these are the things you have to consider. 1. Price, 2. Location, 3. Teacher's experiences (resume), and 4. Characters of the instructor. The first three are easy to recognize from online information. The last one is hard to get, and yet , for us, the most important factor. Many instructors teach lessons only as a job (for money). They do things only during their "paid time." However, taking music lessons need more than that. A true music educator takes every opportunity to see the potentials of the student, knows how to coach individuals, and build up each student with encouragement and sometimes, discipline. He not only teach weekly lesson to help improved my son's skills, he also do extra to encourage students to go to concert, summer camp and perform at the nursing home. Every year, he arranged every details of a free concert with flyer, communications, equipment and even a professional cameraman! He did all those to encourage students to get out there to perform. We are forever grateful for his help for our son's college and scholarship applications. Mr. Rank is a "student oriented" teacher with a servant heart. If anybody is looking for an "all inclusive teacher, Mr. Rank is the best percussion teacher in DFW area. I can never thank enough for what he has done for my son. I hope my son will one day grow and become a teacher like Mr. Rank who care so much for his students.

Kevin is an outstanding music teacher! He taught our child marimba lessons throughout middle school and high school. The benefits of his teachings were amazing. We highly recommend Kevin!
Bonnie
Kevin Rank is an outstanding teacher.! My son is just beginning his 5th year of lessons with Kevin Rank. In the last 5 years, my son has grown from a shy, unsure, extremely quite young man into a confident, 3 time all region percussion player. My boy has grown not only in his musical ability, but in his overall development. I am a strong believer that music is quintessential for all individuals. I am happy to have Kevin Rank helping my son to achieve his full potential as a percussionist and as a leader. He has made impressive advancements in his marimba playing, and Mr. Rank is instrumental in helping him achieve these goals.

"Great teacher!

Henri is great!! He is a super experienced and knowledgable drummer (musician) and teacher. He is extremely patient, has taught me my basics, technique, and is very open to teaching what you want to learn, willing to teach you what you are really interested in musically. At the end of every lesson, he reviews what we learned, writes it and lets me video it so I can practice at home. He has been really flexible, patient, laid back and always down to work on whatever you want but great at coming up with lessons that challenge and excite you as well. I could'nt be more pleased with Henri as a teacher. I always look forward to my lessons."

"Kevin is a fantastic instructor!

I have been taking private lessons from Kevin for two years now as we'll as receiving instruction in Band for the last three years. Kevin not only is an incredible percussionist himself, but he has a knack for being able to convey ideas to students that they can understand. New and better approaches to teaching rhythm, personalized lesson planning to suit a student's needs, and a vast knowledge of music from years of professional experience are just a few things that Kevin brings to the table. If you're looking for a percussion instructor, I would highly recommend Kevin as your first choice!"

"My daughter and I have been taking lessons with Carmen for over four years now. Carmen has proven herself to be a outstanding teacher and wonderful person.

When we started our lessons with Carmen, my daughter was 7 years old and I was in my 40s. And we take our lessons together. Carmen has done a excellent job of meeting the challenge of having both a child and adult student. She personalizes our lessons to our interests and goals while keeping in mind our individual strengths and skills.

Our lessons initially started with the drum set. My daughter now proudly calls herself a percussionist. Our lessons with Carmen now include snare solos, marimba, vibraphone, bells, tympani, clave, agogo bells, tambourin and ganza. (We plan to start Conga soon.) Styles we study with her include classical orchestral, rock, jazz, blues and samba.

Carmen creates but a core structure for continued skill advancement while integrating this to match our interest. For example right now, my daughter and I have been focusing more on Samba rhythms. Carmen integrated a system for our drum rudiments to be incorporated into a Samba beat to maximize our practice (and fun).

Carmen goes beyond the scheduled lesson time to help her student. Between lessons Carmen will produce record tracks of her playing various pieces for us to use as a guide during our practices. She will download music for us to enrich our understanding of a genre that we are studying. And she will email or text us between lessons to follow-up on our status if we had specific difficulties in our lesson.

I would highly recommend Carmen as a percussion teacher for a child, an adult or (as in our case) both. We definitely plan to continue our lessons with her."
