I’m a bilingual professional drummer/musician with a Masters degree in music. I have also been teaching drums for more than 18 years with students of all ages, from beginners to advanced drummers. I have also toured worldwide with many top artists like Becky G., Thalia, Oscar Hernandez, Lauren Jauregui, etc. Part of the things I think are important to learn as a drummer are: How to develop independence, hand/foot technique and speed, rudiments, theory, how to play different genres among other things.

My 8 year-old son looks forward to his lesson with Mr. Charles every week. I was a little nervous about having a 45 minute lesson - but Mr. Charles keeps my son fully engaged and excited the entire time.
Mr. Charles quickly accessed my son's tendencies/needs and has set him up on a track that is a good balance of enjoyment and growth. We look forward to many more lessons with Mr. Charles.

This is a play-by-ear approach. Virtually all pop music bands, regardless of genre, have for the past 65 years used drumming that is played by ear. This means, without the use of written music. Few venues today require drumming to written "drum" music charts.
You will learn the basics of music structure, how to provide a rhythmic foundation and then to embellish from there. We will play along with live music (basic Rock-n-Roll) learning to hear and interpret what's going on in the music and how drums help create that sound. Stick control, posture, maneuvers and techniques along with hardware management and maintenance are all included with the focus on becoming a working and productive member of a band.
Student should have access to at least a basic drum set.

My 6 year old is well... a 6 year old but Dr. J is so patient with her and has already taught her so many new skills in just a few short lessons. He keeps the lessons fun but is able to refocus her on her lessons. Dr. J is an overall amazing musician that is very skilled in a variety of musical techniques. He is also very professional and extremely reliable (even in inclement weather). I would recommend Dr. J to any family that is wanting their child to learn how to play music.
