Learn how to write songs of all shapes and sizes, from the 2 minute pop song, to the 13 minute symphony

About Benjamin
I grew up in Glenside moved to Pittsburgh for school and came back because I love it here...I've been playing for 17 years and have a smorgasbord of influences from Zeppelin to the Beatles to Phish to Radiohead to the dirty projectors to Jay Z to Kurt Rosenwinkel & John Scofield. I have been composing and working with original bands for some 11 years and play regularly in the city and up and down the east coast. I have also been teaching for the past 11 years all over the Philadelphia area. i teach from a method I derived myself from years of learning both in and out of school. I think teaching music is both aural as well as visual and encourage students to listen to music a lot. most of all i feel that music is fun and the students should enjoy learning so i incorporate their favorite artists and favorite songs into our studies. for seri
ous students I love theory and love sharing what I've discovered over the years.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a very laid back guy but I take my playing seriously. music is my life and there's nothing I enjoy sharing and expressing more. I learned to love playing guitar when I was 12 from the coolest guitar teacher ever. he had a vibe that i gravitated toward and encouraged me in just the right ways to get me believing in myself. I try to encourage my students the same way. music should be fun above all and sculpt my lessons to each students individual needs so that they are better equipped to succeed.

Learn to write your own songs! I've written lots of songs and helped in the process with the bands I am in. Learn to express yourself!

About Nicholas
I've been teaching piano privately for about 5 years now. I love teaching piano to others and help develop a love of music. My approach is flexible and not of the cookie cutter variety meaning that I will try different methods to see what works for example, some students like to have a list of goals written down and others don't like that. A little about my musical background. At age 5 my mother forced me to take piano lessons, soon one year became two and so on until I reached my teens I started to love music. In my early teens I started taking piano seriously and began studying under a Russian conservatory teacher until graduating high school and studying at Berklee College of Music for a few years. Now I am in two bands, teach privately! I am looking to expand my number of students. If you have any questions about myself or are i
nterested in lessons please feel free to contact me.

Mr. Nick has been such a great find for us! He has taken my daughter from not having any piano experience to the point where she is able to even play some classical music pieces. He has been extremely accommodating with our schedule/ her schedule, as it becomes quite busy at times and difficult in trying to get our weekly lessons in.

All aspects of songwriting are covered with an emphasis on the theory behind chord progressions and the songwriting process itself. Topics of study include lyric writing, song structure, and orchestration.

About Pete
My name is Pete. I've been playing guitar for over 15 years. In 2011 I graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston with a degree in Professional Music. There, I spent several semesters studying with Tomo Fujita (former teacher of John Mayer and Eric Krasno). I've also studied with legendary guitarist Pat Metheny and Jack Pezanelli. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Wes Montgomery, and Jimi Hendrix are responsible for inspiring me to play guitar and I specialize in teaching blues and jazz guitar, bass, and piano. I firmly believe that every serious musician should study ear training and music theory and I incorporate these areas in my lessons as long as the student wants to study this way. I've performed with a bunch of great artists in the Boston and Philadelphia area.
In 2011, I successfully obtained my master
's degree in Jazz Studies from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. The master's program was an intense submersion in music performance that shaped me into the musician that I am today. I was lucky to study with Don Glanden, Mike Kennedy, and Kevin Hanson.
I am also well versed in computer recording software and DAWs. I teach students how to use software programs such as Logic and Reason as well as notation software like Sibelius and Finale. With some basic training in these programs, I can teach a student how to effectively record and produce professional quality recordings so that a student can write, record, and produce their own music.

*** Lesson Details ***
Because I've studied with some legendary teachers who have taught some legendary students (like John Mayer), I'm able to pass on to my students the same knowledge that these incredible teachers passed on to me. I guarantee that I will be unlike any guitar teacher that you've had before. Along with instrumental training, I offer extensive lessons in music theory and ear training. My family is full of educators and I've experienced the teacher-student relationship from a young age. I am fully committed to developing lesson plans based on the route that a student wants to take, whether it's just learning the basics and playing along to your favorite songs or engaging in serious study and preparing for college auditions. I am available to teach at any location within the Philadelphia area.

*** Stylistic Focus ***
I specialize in jazz and blues. At Berklee, I was able to take instrumental labs that spent an entire semester focusing on the playing style of certain guitarists. I've taken the Wes Montgomery lab, the Pat Martino lab, the Jimi Hendrix lab, the John Scofield lab, and the Stevie Ray Vaughan lab.

I can help you write songs, from finding a melody and writing lyrics, to advanced chord progressions and the theory behind choosing what chords to use and where, how to change keys, and help you expand on your ideas. I can teach you how to copyright songs and market them. Songwriting is probably my favorite part of the musical experience.

About Scott
Hi! I'm Scott. I perform with a one-man band setup I created which utilizes a modified guitar and home-made foot pedals to control a drum set, while I sing on top of it all. I have a recording studio at home, and have performed with bands as a singer, guitarist, saxophonist, bassist, percussionist, and as a sound engineer. I've written, performed and recorded my own album which made it to the 2nd round of the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, and was a voting member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Grammy Committee and NARAS (National Association or the Recording Arts and Sciences.) I started piano lessons from age 5 and just kept picking up more instruments and gear as I got older and never stopped learning or enjoying it!

I have been teaching Guitars, Basses, Percussion, Piano, Saxophone, Music Production, Re
cording, and Live Sound for 16 years.

I can teach you note-reading, tabs, ear training, music theory, composition, improvisation in just about any style of music.

Working with people writing songs is something I enjoy thoroughly; I can help you write and record your own songs. A computer and internet access are preferred to take full advantage of the technology for learning and producing music.

Knowledgeable in Instrument repair, set-up, and maintenance, I can help you fix it, and how to spot a good instrument.

Patient and experienced, with a broad knowledge of music in most areas, I can give you hundreds of good references from previous students I've taught over the years

About Mark
Hello all, my name is Mark P.

I have been playing Violin for 13yrs, studying with teachers
from many prestigious schools:  Mannes,
Juilliard, Curtis, St. Petersburg and Moscow Conservatory.  In high school, I participated in all of the
PMEA string festivals, making it all the way to All-Easterns Honors Ensemble.  I performed with the Philadelphia Youth
Orchestra from 2004-2007.

I went to Mannes the NewSchool for Music for a year and a
half, studying with Ann Setzer.  Though I
did not find my passion in the Classic Conservatory, I transferred to Mansfield
University and made friends that have the same modern ambitions.  In Mansfield University, I still went through
a classical regime, but also studied jazz and contemporary with friends and on
my own.  Through this experience, I became
fantasized with the Ipad as a musical
instrument.  The Ipad made it very simple to learn theory
and to experiment with many sounds, which has helped me with all my
song-writing.

*** Lesson Details ***
From my experience with teaching students before and during
college, I enjoy seeing my student smiling and laughing.  It brings the warmest feelings to see any
student of mine enjoy playing music.  The
catch is once I notice my student not practicing within several lessons, even
through several approaches, then I discuss what is it that my student wants to
gain with her/his musical career/hobby.
I believe every student has the drive to learn and do great things; it
is the student’s ambition and motivation to drive her/himself to be as
successful as she/he can be.

With my approach as a violinist, I center my attention
towards the bow (whether you are a righty or lefty) because it is the most
vital part of learning violin or any bowed instrument than that of any other
stringed instrument.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Student should have a violin. If not, I know reputable makers in Philadelphia and NYC.
I also provide in lessons IPADS for theory purposes and songwriting; if the student has one, that is a big bonus.

*** Specialties ***
All genres and methods vary depending on the student.

Songwriting and/or composition coaching - from scratch or expanding upon your rough ideas. Lessons cover lyric writing, lyric rhythm, prosody, melody, structure, harmony.

About Laurel
Classically trained violinist and violist Laurel enjoys performing, composing, improvising, and recording across a variety of genres and with ensembles ranging from orchestras and chamber ensembles, to bands and singer-songwriters. Laurel is frequently sought for her particular ability to add depth and emotion to all types of music and her knack for creating infectious melodies. She released her first solo original EP in 2013 and most recently she’s been touring North America as a duo with Canadian guitarist and hit songwriter, Dan Frechette, logging 25,000 miles and 130 concerts in 2013 alone.

Beyond her musical talents, Laurel's poise and professionalism have earned her consistent respect and admiration from musical collaborators, audiences, and students. Her elegant stage presence and sharp musical executions combine with a deligh
tful sense of fun and a natural charm that readily appeals to all generations.

Laurel's genuine and thoughtful manner puts others at ease. As a teacher, she is recognized for her ability to troubleshoot challenges and inspire dedicated students of all ages. Laurel began teaching at age 14 and has since taught hundreds of students privately and in workshops and youth orchestras. Since 2009, as the New York Times reported, Laurel has taught online to growing numbers of students from New York and Texas, to Africa and Hong Kong.

Wanting to share her musical insights across the globe, in 2010, Laurel launched Violin Geek Podcast and began authoring what would quickly be dozens of articles on violin technique for Strings magazine. In early 2011, she was commissioned by String Letter Publishing to create the book/video guides Improve Your Bowing Technique and Improve Your Violin & Viola Technique.

Laurel's violin and viola abilities are praised not only for technique and tone, but for her sensitivity and extraordinary ability to convey emotion. Laurel hears music as a story, and when she plays, vivid imagery and deep feeling move her beyond the auditory. She experiences music as a form of dynamic communication with her collaborators, her audience, her students, and her inner self, and whether on stage or in the teaching studio, she enjoys diving into the creative unknown and seeing how she can expand the boundaries.
