I have been a drummer my whole life. I started at the age of six and have two degrees in percussion performance.

About Noel
Hello everyone and welcome!

My name is Noel B., and I am a musician living and working in New York City.

When teaching a new student I employ many different methods. To me, music is about playing with people. Its important to be able to play by yourself but there are things you just can't learn unless you play with people. I liken it to taking soccer lessons but never playing on a team. Also, its important to perform. All of my students are invited to perform at a venue with a grand piano that professional musicians in the city play. This really helps the students and I set goals, and achieve them. I also use some method books, theory and other things, but just making it about playing makes the lessons much much more fun and inspiring for the students.

I currently teach at two music schools apart from my Private studio. O
ne of which is in Long Island. At this school I teach electronic music production w/ Ableton as a digital audio workstation. I also teach DJ/Turntablism along side DJ 4our 5ive (he has worked with Notorious BIG, Jay z, and is the current tour DJ for Lil Wayne). We have also started working together on performing at the venue near the school.

I hope to inspire others to pursue a musical life. No matter how serious and long, or short and light.

One of my ultimate goals in teaching is to help my students develop the skills and knowledge to not only be able to play well, but to also be able to teach themselves (and hopefully others in the future). Thank you for your time! Have a great day!

Great lesson. Worked out a plan to accomplish my goals. Noel is amazing and multi-instrumentalist which helped to combine skills and a jam session into the lesson.

Simply put, Noel is a terrific teacher! I had the itch to pick up the guitar at 39 years old, and wanted to work with someone who had a laid back approach while still having the chops and the knowledge to offer some challenges. I was not disappointed!

Noel has an extremely diverse background in much that goes well beyond the guitar - He's an awesome drummer as well. This made the lessons even more interesting since he could offer perspective from the drummer's point of view, stressing how important rhythm is to becoming a solid guitarist.

On top of everything else, one of the things I like the most about taking lessons with Noel is that sitting down with him is like sitting in on a jam session - a pretty cool feeling for someone who's somewhat new to music, but has always wanted to learn.

Great Teacher

My teacher is amazing. A master professional in his musical field. He teaches like he's done it for decades, even though so young. I would dare to say he can teach with his eyes close. I love all his teaching techniques, from theory to scale, to practicing the Hanon Studies, to ear training and on. I like how he plays along with me while teaching me a new musical score. He completely dedicated to teaching his student and making sure his pupil is satisfied with his performance. He'll even help you with preparing you for an recital or musical event. He knows how. I highly recommend for teaching any pupil from age 3 to 92. He'll ask me what I want to do next, and then we look for scores that I can learn according to my level.. He's attention to your needs as a student and works around it. I always look forward to going to my next lesson and see how I improved and what's new score he's prepare for me to learn.

I divide my lessons into technique (mostly done on a practice pad) and coordination (playing drums).
Learning the rudiments is essential for any drum set player or a percussionist. First, I focus on getting a nice clean single roll, double roll and a buzz roll which are the building blocks of all styles of drumming.
Once the student masters that he will be able to play with a nice feel and groove and have a natural approach to the drums so he can express himself effortless and with ease.
It will be lots of fun and you will groove with a smile on your face!

About Kolja
Kolja is a versatile drummer/percussionist that has been actively playing/teaching/recording for the last 20 years of his life.
He teaches at his studio in Williamsburg.
He has studied Jazz drumming at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Europe. Although trained as a western drummer, studying with the Indian master drummer Taalyogi Pandit Suresh Talwalkar, has given him insight how to teach rhythm and make it a fun process.
The joy and the excitement while playing is what Kolja focuses is on. How to groove effortless and with ease is what he teaches!
Lessons are customized to match students interest and abilities.
Jazz, Funk , Rock, Fusion, Latin , Odd meter, Middle Eastern drumming, Indian Rhythm (Konnakol)
All levels are welcome! From absolute beginners to professional musicians!

Kolja is a wonderful teacher. He's very laid-back and easy-going and all around a very pleasant guy to get along with. He is also very willing to work with people in whatever desires they have for the drums. Don't get me wrong though, you're not goofing off during the lesson. He's very focused on teaching the drums well and wants to make sure you're solid in whatever it is you're learning. He has a good balance between patience and making sure you're not falling into bad habits by using poor technique repeatedly. No matter what skill level you're at, I'm positive that you have something to learn from Kolja.

Kolja is great! I've taken lessons for various instruments since I was young and never had as much fun as I do in drum lessons. He has a great energy and gives positive, constructive feedback. His years of experience as a drummer and instructor were immediately evident. I felt improvement even after the first week of practice! I appreciated that he took time to understand what I wanted out of drum lessons and how I prefer to learn. I have been wanting to start drumming for years and am so glad that I found Kolja!

I studied drums when I was younger and wanted to reacquaint myself with my long lost art. I am so happy I chose Kolja, He has this amazing joyful energy. He's an amazing drummer and can explain how to do it. Wow! He made me feel really comfortable from the get go. He was very thorough assessing my skill level, my goals and how much time I actually have to give to practicing. He is teaching me how to reread drum notation and really making sure I have the proper posture and holding the sticks correctly. I am very interested in jazz drumming and poly-rhythm. I think with him I will reach my goals. I'm slowly getting there. He is really good at explaining and showing. I think I really lucked out.

About Yuichi
Yuichi H. was born in Tokyo, Japan. His musical career started at age 10 when he performed marimba in a music recital. He started playing drum set at age 14 and joined a wind ensemble, a few rock bands, and a jazz big band. With some of these groups, he performed at several live music venues in Tokyo. In 1991, he composed the music and performed drums and percussion in a production of Othello, at The Globe Tokyo Panasonic Theater.
In the fall of 1991, with a full scholarship, he attended Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA. He studied jazz drums mainly with Joe Hunt and Jon Hazilla, and orchestral percussion with Dean Anderson. Also, he took many classes in jazz composition and arranging with Gregg Hopkins and Jeff Friedman. He was the recipient of "The Cuccinello Percussion Award" and the "Berklee Percussion Department Achievemen
t Award." Outside of the school curriculum, he joined several bands and performed at several venues such as the Willow Jazz Club, Middle East Cafe, and Copley Square Hotel. With one of these bands, he appeared at a jazz festival called "Jazz Improv." in Kingston, NY in 1993.

In the spring of 1995 he earned a Professional Diploma in Performance and Jazz Composition from Berklee College.
His ambition to learn and play music made him move to New York City. He continued his studies at The City College of New York, CUNY, NY, and earned a Masters degree in jazz performance in the spring of 2000. There, he studied jazz and contemporary drums with Charli Persip, Kim Plainfield, and Mark Walker. Also, he studied jazz ensemble, and arranging with Grammy award winning bassist Ron Carter.
Currently, as a full-time freelance drummer, he appears at various live music venues in New York City, and around the tri-state area as well. His own jazz band has performed at Arthur's Tavern in Greenwich Village every Tuesday since September 2001, and he has also appeared at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York in 2003, 2004 and 2005. He has also been touring in Tokyo and Kyushu, Japan.

As a sideman, he has performed at the Birdland Jazz Club in New York with the Morris Brothers Band in 2000, and also at the April Jazz Festival in Finland with the Jay Sweeney R&B Experience in 1999. With his wide-ranged interest in music, he plays not only jazz, but also rock, R&B, funk, blues, country, Brazilian and afro-Cuban.
John Scofield, Larry Carlton, John Abercrombie, Robben Ford, John Petrucci (Dream Theatre), Percy Heath (MJQ), Ron Carter, Donald Byrd, and Barry Harris are among some of the more notable musicians that Yuichi has performed with.

He has clear objectives and a passion for all lessons, units, projects, and is able to share these objectives with his students very clearly. Also, with his skill to plan instruction programs for music that meets individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, he worked for the Jazz Workshop in Yamaguchi, Japan in 2002, 2003, and 2006. There he played a very important role as a program coordinator as well as a translator. At this workshop, he worked with jazz legends, Barry Harris, Richard Davis, and Lewis Nash.

After so many years since I grabbed a pair of drum sticks for the first time, I still get the same joy and excitement when I play music with drums nowadays. The better I have an idea about music, the more fun I get. It seems that my drumming gets better as long as I have specific goals every time I practice playing drums, and that keeps me wanting to play more.

By teaching how to play drums, I like to share this fun with you. In order to do that, I will make an ideal practice plan specifically designed for you.
If you know what songs you like to play, then I will show you what to practice on drums and how you are doing. It might be helpful if you understand the song in terms of what it consists in term of verses and choruses, chord changes, instrumentation, etc. Whenever you like, I can talk about these things as well. You could take it as a kind of music theory, but I keep in my mind that your primary interest is getting better on drums.

If you do not have particular songs in your mind right now but you want to play drums, No problem. I will be happy to introduce you many different kinds of songs/tunes until you find one to play.
Or if you just want to play some hot drum solos, I sure got some great stuff to work on to it.
Either playing a song or playing just solo drums, I will show you many different techniques to work on, and I will keep watching how you are doing on drumming.
I look forward to meeting you and starting work on building your fun with music!

Yuichi has been a really great teacher for our 7 years old son. He is very patient and really great with kids. He's made a real effort to get our son interested in drumming and music more generally, introducing to different sounds, rhythms and types of music. My son really enjoys his lesson and is making good progress!

Our son is 7 years old and started drum lessons with Yuichi several months ago. My son absolutely loves his classes with Yuichi and would go more than once a week if he could. We are very happy with Yuichi. He makes the lesson fun and interesting for our son, and at the same time teaching him what he needs to know so he continues to make progress. Patricia is an AMAZING teacher.

Personality: She is very welcoming, warm, funny and just a positive person to be around which bodes very well when it comes to learning and stepping outside of your comfort zone.

Knowledge: Just by looking at her credentials you know that she has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to music. However, her greatest gift is being able to relay all of that information to someone who may not have a very strong musical background. She is also very adept at making connections making the learning process fun and understandable.

Lessons: I have been taking lessons with Patricia for months now for voice. The greatest part of the lessons are that she does not only focus on improving your voice on a technical level. She helps with mental preparation, ear training, music theory and great deal of other things which helps students to become more well rounded. I believe this also helps students to grow in their area of study much faster.

Misc: Patricia greatly encourages her students to perform. If you are not comfortable going to an open mic, Patricia hosts a performance event for her students. This provides a safe and secure environment for students to express themselves an apply what they have learned in lessons.

I recently performed and while nervous the mental preparation that I described above helped me to "put on a show". I will continue taking lessons with Patricia and I am grateful for everything I have learned and experience in my time.

Patricia is an excellent teacher for all levels. I have worked with her teaching three year old beginner drum group classes, all the way to masterclasses for college students at CUNY on techniques to use when improvising in complex time signatures. She can teach anyone! Patricia makes the lessons fun all the while you gain inspiration. I also really enjoyed the concert she hosted for her students in the Village. Sign up, you won't be disappointed.

My basic approach is to foster the student in a relaxed but focused environment. Everyone has their own goals in mind when picking up the sticks. Whether you want to learn how to play your favorite song, brush up on your snare etudes or analyze an Elvin Jones solo, I am more than happy to offer guidance on your musical journey.

About Mike
Hello, my name is Mike and I am excited to teach you. I have studied the drums for most of my life, and can't wait to show you what I have learned.

I have been fortunate enough to have worked with some amazing teachers and musicians from all over the globe. I am more than willing to pass on what I have discovered.

I have taught beginners how to hold the sticks and play simple grooves, as well as shown seasoned veterans how to strengthen their foundation and overcome roadblocks to mastery.

I encourage my students to develop a solid foundation of technical skills (grip, body mechanics, reading, time, rudiments, styles/grooves) while finding their own voice on the instrument. Musical performance is a deeply personal experience, and I hope to guide you towards whatever goals you have in mind.

Bobby is a fantastic instructor. He spent several years himself studying drums from different people well versed in different techniques, so his approach is very broad and versatile; he is very knowledgeable and familiar with all kinds of different styles of music and drumming. As a teacher, he is very enthusiastic and energetic, his passion for his craft definitely guides the lesson along. He is very patient and takes the time to explain himself thoroughly and to help with problems or questions. He is very dedicated and professional, he always keeps his appointments, on time, and is considerate of your time, and he makes the most of the lesson time. He is very easy to reach and communicate with for rescheduling and such. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

I started lessons with Bobby about 2 years ago as a total beginner with an awful case of performance anxiety. I'd never picked up a drum stick in my life, but decided on a whim that I wanted to play along with my favorite rock songs. The first song I wanted to learn was by Motley Crue, and without any hesitation whatsoever, Bobby walked me (the complete novice, mind you) through Tommy Lee's crazy-tough grooves and fills. Thanks to Bobby's patience and guidance, I can now play that song and many of my other favorites.

Bobby has been an incredible teacher; he is consistently patient, kind, and fun. He has a great way of creating engaging lessons that include a mix of learning to play specific songs and also working on drills that make playing those songs a little easier. If you're looking for a talented, supportive, and down to earth drum teacher, Bobby's your guy! I highly recommend him!

My lessons are tailored to achieve YOUR goals, and I design a unique lesson plan to fit your learning style. I have experience working with every age group, and have even coached school ensembles, and given clinics about a variety of music topics.

MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

I strongly believe that playing music should be nothing but pure joy. Learning to play the drums is simply the process of training your body and mind to better express yourself using rhythm and timbre. This process can vary greatly from person to person, and the end result is different for everyone. Although the process of learning anything can feel like a chore at times, I believe every moment of study should be designed to achieve your personal goals. The learning process should be fun, and easy to navigate. Playing music becomes more fun the better you get, and the path to

I hadn't had a music lesson in about 35 years, so I wasn't sure what I was getting into. I had bought a drum set for kicks and was screwing around a bit but hadn't really focused on much of anything and was pretty much treading water. Incremental improvement but nothing to write home about.

I've found that Adam is ready to meet you at your level and he has got me working on some basics (a reminder of just how sloppy my playing was/is) and I (think) I'm improving pretty rapidly and am starting to recognize things I hadn't noticed before. If there's an issue, it has been my erratic practice schedule. He has also been really flexible with respect to schedule, lesson length etc. - important for someone like myself who is works and has kids with their own busy schedules.

Drum lessons with me are unique because I am extremely sensitive to every one of my student's individualities. Though I do use curriculum frequently, lessons become very customized to each students individual wants and needs. No two students are the same, so neither are any two of my lessons. I am careful to figure out exactly what each student is wanting to get out of lessons with me and I work to give them just that - and more!

About Lex
Music has been a daily part of my life since getting a drum set at 12 years old. By age 16 I began to realize that I would need to learn more instruments than just the drum set to satisfy my musical appetite. Since then I have spent countless hours learning the piano, bass, and guitar. I also studied many other members of the percussion family, such as the marimba, vibraphone, timpani, bendir, riq, mbira and djembe. Just as I love music from every variety of instrument, I love music from every variety of genre and culture.
As a teacher I try to pass my love of learning music of all types on to my students. My goal is for every student that comes through the doors of my teaching studio to not only improve technically, but more so to have the way that they listen to music be transformed. My musical philosophy is that the musician with
the most receptive ears is more valuable than the musician with the musician with the most virtuosic technique.
Since moving to New York in November, 2016, I have performed as a drummer at many staple New York venues, such as The Bitter End, Feinstein’s 59 Below, the Metropolitan room, Silent Barn, Baby’s All Right, Pianos, Arlene’s Grocery, Silvana’s, and Brooklyn Bazaar. I am the drummer for three bands, Poppies, Smoke and Sugar, and King Jane, all active in different parts of New York’s multi-faceted music scene. I have also been active as an instructor, teaching drums, percussion, guitar, piano, bass, and vocals out of Guitar Center Brooklyn since January of 2017.
