On the first lesson with Dan as an intermediate/advance level student, I have certain expectations of the kind of guidance I need to improve my playing (even if I usually play for my own personal pleasure). Dan was able to pinpoint some areas that I could improve which were very helpful. Looking forward to having more lessons with him.

I've been taking lessons from Adam for about 3 years now - He is an amazing teacher! I took lessons before when I was younger but I quickly lost interest. I decided to get back into it later in life (I'm 35 now), but I still struggled to find the right teacher. One was too serious and the other was too relaxed and I felt like I wasn't actually making any progress. With Adam I got the best of both worlds! I was getting better at the guitar, and at the same time I was enjoying myself throughout the whole process. I'm still taking lessons with Adam and I would recommend that you do the same!

I took jazz guitar for two years from Adam. He’s a great teacher and excellent musician. As a former “cowboy chords” guitarist, I jumped from 5 to about 15 chords in a few weeks. Adam is patient and lots of fun. I still catch some of his gigs when I’m back in NYC.

Ian is fantastic teacher. He was so patient with my toddler daughter. And when she became fuzzy during the class, Ian could be so creative to always come out with a way to calm her down and redirect her attention to other musical things. I would love him to be my daughter’s music teacher for as long as possible if I did not have to move.

Emphasis on basic music theory knowledge and heavy emphasis on transcribing and learning songs.

The absolute best way to become a competent songwriter is by listening to and learning other artist's music. By listening, you discover what elements you want in your own music and by learning (with a basic understanding of music theory), you discover how to put those elements into your own music.

Some topics I like to go over in a given songwriting lesson are as follows:

-Chord progressions and use of "color" chords
-Note choice and how to decide what note to sing/play
-Dynamics (basically intensity of the sections)
-Instrumentation (what instruments are playing what)
-Melodic phrasing (how you string notes together to make your musical "sentence")

About Christian

My name is Christian L. and I am a 29 year old guitar/music instructor in the Orlando area. My interest in guitar began when I was 12 years old and blossomed into a full time obsession about 3 years later when I started playing small gigs as a solo guitarist playing simple jazz and classical pieces

Christian is not only a talented musician, but he is also a true guitar teacher. So far, I have taken 4 classes and I've learned more with his methods than any other way. I've had tried from the Fender Play app, YouTube videos, to other instructors, but nothing compares to his teachings. He is patient and truly pays attention to what I am struggling with. He breaks everything down piece by piece. If one way doesn't work, he tries a different way until I understand. As mentioned before, he is a gifted teacher. One thing is to be a great guitar player who teaches how to play a few chords, and another is to be a great guitar player who puts him/herself in the student's shoes and help them progress with each lesson. He is one of a kind. Thanks, Christian!

Lessons with Christian have been very informative and fun. He is not only a talented player, but knowledgeable regarding music theory. Most importantly, he has the ability to teach and communicate concepts and and content in practical ways that are beneficial to the student.
He has been proactive, supportive and will go beyond time constraint in order to take advantage of the moment and accomplish the goal of each lesson.
So far, a very enjoyable experience. Highly recommended!

For about five years now, I have been actually completing playable music. The past couple years, my school's jazz combo has even taken a couple of my songs to compete with at different jazz festivals. I have studied under the fantastic composer, guitarist, and teacher, Tom Hynes the past couple years. Prior to my studies, I was self taught, as a way of expanding my improvisation. I write primarily for Chamber ensembles, Jazz small ensembles, and even some pop music.

I use Handwritten, Finale and Logic pro for notation, so whichever is most convenient, I'll use. In lessons, I will ask students to bring in material they have written each week, which we will review together. I'll add some suggestions, but will not change the integrity of the music, just refine it. We shall look at composing in different styles, as well as expanding upon the styles in which the student is most interesting in pursuing.

Songwriting can include many skills. The main one being to extensively learn music theory to write out charts in order to compose (and express) your musical ideas. Some writer particularly focus on lyric writing, while others use computer tracking or scoring to help them compose. Having written many songs myself (and studied various styles and methods of music) I am pleased to assist you in this area of musicianship.

Lauren was very skillful at what she does and this conveys well in the lessons with her. I learned a lot from Lauren in my time with her but I would prefer the lessons to be a little more organized. All in all a good experience, Thank you Lauren.

Lauren is the real deal. Point blank period. I initially signed up for singing lessons, but she has helped me with piano, music theory, and other skills as well. She has a much more wholesome approach for developing as an artist than simply a linear "sing these notes" type of lesson.

Lauren is a good balance of stern and silly. She has a great sense of humor, so I feel comfortable singing & playing for her (even if my skills are limited and sound like a dying horse). However, that doesn't mean you just goof around. She takes it very seriously and pushes you as a student. I couldn't recommend Lauren more.

Five stars.

"Jan's direction gets results!

Jan is one of the most nurturing people I've had the pleasure of being around. She's constantly helping me with all aspects of my career, including gaining my own students. She takes the time to ask how I'm doing personally and does whatever she can to encourage me. Jan has given me many tools that have greatly increased my skill as a vocalist, and the things she has done for my songwriting are revolutionary! She's been able to get me to think of my songs as a story, with the angle of thinking about writing a movie script, an entire story before I even begin to write lyrics. It's me write much better songs and I could not have done that without her. I highly recommend!"

Songwriting Tips: How to Write Lyrics To Your First Song

Are  you learning to play guitar because you want to be able to write your own songs? Guitar teacher Samuel B. shares some tips to help you write lyrics to your first song... Just as writing a song on guitar can seem like work for only a select few, so can writing the words to one. Once again, this assumption and the truth are completely unrelated. You don't need to be Bob Dylan or Bernie Taupin to do it – you only need to have something to say. I first began writing lyrics as teenag …
