Most recently, my drumming can be heard on multi-platinum selling recording artist Mark Slaughter's solo CD, "Reflections in a Rear View Mirror" which was released in March of this year. In additional to acoustic drumming, I have extensive experience with:
- midi programming (Toontrack Superior Drummer)
- drum set recording (Pro Tools, Cubase, Reaper)

About Mark
Most recently, Mark's drumming can be heard on multi-platinum selling recording artist Mark Slaughter's solo CD, 'Reflections in a Rear View Mirror.'

In addition to being a full-time working drummer, Mark is guiding veteran and up & coming drummers with their musical careers both privately and at Nevada Music Academy (March 2014 to present).

Mark is currently accepting serious-minded adult students for in-home or online lessons. Drum set students are required to have access to a drum set; snare drum students are required to have a snare drum or practice pad.

*****BACKGROUND*****

With inspiration from a music-infused household, Mark began playing drums at the age of eight, shortly after relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada. Within a few short years he was performing with various school bands (stage, jazz, orchestra, marching) and o
riginal rock bands formed with musicians from the local music scene.

Mark studied classical and rudimental snare drum performance at the Murray Spivack School for Snare Drum and funk, jazz, rock and Latin drumming under the tutelage of Irv Kluger, Chuck Silverman and Richie “Gajate” Garcia.

Mark’s first big break came in 1986 when he toured with the legendary Hollywood based hard-rock band Masque, which included the famous circuit clubs in Los Angeles supporting such artists as Warrant and Poison. Shortly after, Mark spent two years performing and recording with MTV favorites D.R. Starr and the M.D.’s, securing his place as one of Los Angeles’ “go to” drummers.

Drum lessons with Mark are informative, results-driven and loud at times! “Together, you and I will develop an ‘Individualized Learning Program’ designed just for you,” says Mark. “We’ll work at your level and at your pace – and we’ll have fun doing it!” Mark has been working successfully with students as young as 5 years of age. Beginning students will be playing basic drum beats during their first lesson and playing along to songs within several lessons. Experienced students will further develop reading chops, grooves, fills and rudiments.

To date, Mark has recorded and performed with numerous rock acts and is active in the local music scene. In addition, Mark is a two-time Las Vegas Rock Hall of Fame inductee.

Mark rocks!

Mark’s incredible skill as a drummer is only matched by his abilities as a teacher. In just a short time with Mark’s instruction, I have made vast improvements in my drumming. At my first lesson with Mark, he determined my skill level and what I sought to achieve with my lessons. Almost immediately, the fundamentals Mark showed me were translating into my drumming with my band. Mark has opened doors in my playing that I didn’t know existed. Mark is incredibly patient and really cares about ensuring I receive significant benefit from my lessons. Mark really goes out of his way to make sure I fully grasp everything he shows me. I would highly recommend Mark for anyone who wants to learn from a true master at his craft and from a teacher who takes pride in his students and his teaching. Thank you Mark!!

Mark Review

I have had many different types of music teachers through out my life and Mark is by far the best. He is very serious about helping his students do what they want to do. I had specific goals I wanted to accomplish. Mark took my goals seriously and did what he could to help me understand the techniques to be a good drummer. He broke things down in to little steps that helped me to practice on my own and figure specific drum patterns out, He gave me the tools to improve myself as a musician, Mark did not have to but he chose to put a lot of his own time in to teaching me what I wanted to learn He obviously cares about his students and takes them seriously. I highly recommend him to any future students

I do not play drums regularly but can teach all levels/styles beginner to advanced.

About Terry
Terry P. is a composer, producer, and a multi-instrumentalist specializing in guitar and piano. He has been teaching all types of people at all levels for over eight years at Axis Music Academy in Southfield, and has taught over 8,000 lessons. Terry has a Bachelors of Music with a concentration in Composition and Theory from Wayne State University. In 2012, Terry was awarded the prestigious Kresge Arts Fellowship in the performing arts category.
This is Terry's bio from the Kresge Arts In Detroit website:

Terry had already started making a lasting impact on the local rock scene – in his influence over other artists and his musical innovations – prior to studying music composition at Wayne State University. Terry has used this classical training toward his goal of elevating the musical consciousness of popular music audiences by
exposing them to compositional techniques they would otherwise never hear without listening to classical music. Terry, a multi-instrumentalist, has focused his efforts on the exploration of these techniques in contemporary genres, specifically progressive metal. In recent years, he has employed himself as a private instructor and has started scoring music for film.

I make sure that lessons are fun for the student, and that the student is learning material that they like. At the same time, I make sure that my students become well-rounded musicians by teaching them skills in reading and music theory. Lessons are tailored to the student, and my approach varies with everyone I teach. I will fast-track you toward your goal while supplementing your lesson experience with exposure to new things that will challenge you in a fun way. I have learned to play almost every instrument and will teach just about anything, although I am strongest with the piano and guitar. I am open to teaching all ages, all genres/styles, and have even taught students with various disabilities. My extensive training also makes me a good tutor for undergraduate music students taking classes in ear-training and theory.
Beginning students should expect to be playing a handful of their favorite songs after studying with me for a few months, and as well they will have a basic understanding of reading notes on the instrument, and a basic understanding of music theory fundamentals. Advanced students will find that they are continually inspired and challenged.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide my own instrument and practice amp. for guitar/bass, the student must have their own instrument and amp. piano students must have their own piano and drum students must have their own drum kit. I can bring books and other materials and may recommend that students buy certain books etc.

*** Specialties ***
For piano, I specialize in classical, and can teach anyone from 5-year-old beginners to advanced players. I can teach any style.
For guitar, I specialize in metal and progressive rock. I can teach any ability level and any style.

Ive been working with Eric for over a year now and I can't recommend him enough. Whether you are looking to play guitar recreationally or professionally Eric is the person you want to help hone your skills. As someone who has tried to teach myself and failed I can say that after working with Eric not only do I understand music itself astronomically better but I also am able to produce music on a creative level that would have taken years to achieve without Eric. Lastly, to anyone who is on edge of whether they need a teacher or not, the answer is YES, absolutely and you won't find anyone better than Eric.

Rob Cournoyer. Where to begin... I was 17 years old when I had started taking lessons from Rob. It was my senior year of high school and after hitting a wall after years of being self-taught, began studying at Hoffman's Music in Houma (my hometown) with a man named Troy Percle. After awhile, Troy told me that if I wanted to go to Berklee, I should look up this guy, who had just begun teaching in Houma. So, I did and from lesson number one, I learned so much. New concepts, new methods, new ideas. But also, Rob was gracious enough to share his worldly experiences with me, a teenager with dreams of grandeur, and through his teaching, helped me to be prepared for the reality that comes with being a working musician. It is work, it will be hard. But it is what you love. Like Tony Williams once said,"We play because we must." Rob is the embodiment of that statement. Long story short, Rob helped me prepare an audition piece for my Berklee scholarship audition and sure enough, they offered me a substantial amount of money to attend their school, which I had been dreaming of going to since I was 12 years old. He helped a big dream of mine come true. I studied with him until I moved out of Houma and up to Boston. Today, I am a working drummer in Nashville and can honestly say that one of the true highlights of my education, was having Rob as a teacher. Not only of drumming, but of life. You would be doing yourself a tremendous service to have Rob Cournoyer be your teacher. Thank you, Rob. I am happy to be able to call him a former teacher and a present friend.

Rob, has been instructing our 11 year old son for the past couple of years. He is easily the best music instructor I have seen. His passion for music and drums keeps our son excited about his lessons. He teaches in a fun but organized approach that does not overwhelm our son. Our son's improvement after every lesson is very noticeable. I recommend Rob unconditionally. Our son also highly recommends Rob.

Rob has been teaching drums to my 14 year old son for about 2 years. He is an incredible teacher and it is amazing how far along my son has come since he started working with him. Rob has a friendly and easy going personality that allows kids to feel comfortable with him. My son has been playing drums for about 5 years and since he started with Rob his drumming ability has gone to a whole new level. Rob has taught my son many different styles including rock, blues, jazz, samba and so much more. Rob is a very talented drummer, a great teacher and just an all around great guy. I would recommend him to anyone looking for lessons.

About Joel
I am a fan of a wide variety of music. I am especially fond of music that provides a structure for improvisation and the unexpected results that can arise when musicians allow themselves to explore their instruments without the restrictions that typically more formulaic styles impose. However, I also enjoy music that is incredibly orchestrated and requires exact mechanics and pristine technique. Most of all, I need music to feel generous toward the listener or I lose interest very quickly. Music is a gift. It can change your life if you let it. If you are adventurous and willing to challenge yourself you can find all the treasures of the universe in the mastery of an instrument. Did I mention its a lot of fun? Pick me, you wont be disappointed.

Students will learn the basics of rhythmic theory and hand technique, as well as advanced songwriting techniques and improvisational methods. Cater to every student's individual strengths, needs, and goals, regardless of age or experience. Every student receives personalized lesson plans in a laid-back learning environment. Specializes in all ages and experience levels. Let's get you on the right path towards true musicianship!

About Jesse
I'm a professional percussionist, pianist, and recording artist born and raised in Woodbridge, VA. I have 15 years of professional music experience, ranging from touring/session work to marching band composition. My life as a musician imbued a unique outlook and philosophy on musicianship and how we learn to play. I pride myself on my personalized approach to each individual student, allowing them to create in a fun, relaxed learning environment.

I have students of all ages, beginner to expert. I work very well with young students, as well as students with special needs. As a teacher and a musician, I firmly believe that music is meant to be a fun and creative exercise. We must invent, reshape, and redefine the standards. I teach students to understand the fundamentals behind their instrument, recognize patterns, and manipulate these bui
lding blocks to create something new. Everyone has different goals and expectations, and my lessons are framed to set any individual along the path to mastery.

As a drum teacher, I teach fundamental concepts like basic hand techniques, counting, introductory rudiments, and more. For more experienced players, I can teach concepts ranging from Latin groove to songwriting as a percussionist to advanced improvisational techniques. I hold the belief that a drummer must be a musician first, so music appreciation is a primary point of learning for all my students. Whether you're just picking up the sticks or you've been playing for years, I'll always be able to unearth new creative potential.

For my piano students, I again work well with students of all levels of experience. Beginners and intermediate students can expect to build a foundation of solid hand fundamentals, music reading & writing, musical comprehension, and a basic understanding of music theory. More experienced players will explore advanced musical concepts, such as composition, advanced chord structure, modal theory, and more. As with my drum students, piano students should expect a relaxed learning environment.

I currently handle a roster of 50+ students and multiple bands. When I'm not teaching, I'm playing with local Virginia outfits Roraima, Model Trains, & Walkabout. I've toured for Be Still Cody, Funeral Advantage, and Cocoba. I specialize in funk, R&B, experimental, and punk rock.

I had the opportunity to observe Jesse Harman's musicianship first hand 2 years ago. They were performing with a group in the Port Huron, a town in Michigan. Harman not only showed great professionalism in their craft but brought an amazing sense of fun and creativity while performing. Off stage, they handled their equipment very meticulously and with utmost care. To summarize what we have here, it is a devoted musician, who has not only mastered their art(and continues to develop said abilities) but as an added bonus, was a very kind individual and all around swell human being.

I haven't had the privelege of taking an official lesson from Jesse, but as their classmate and friend, I've learned a lot through osmosis. I've concluded that Jesse's talent is immeasurable, as I've seen through their many performances as a marching and concert percussionist, pianist, pop/rock/prog drummer, etc. They are not defined or confined by any particular style or genre. They do it all.
Beyond Jesse's immense talent is an even greater work ethic. They work hard to maintain and improve upon their talent, but they are also one of the most approachable and relaxed people I've met.
I've seen performances of bands Jesse has coached, and it's clear that not only are their kids technically proficient, but they have great confidence in themselves, too.
Jesse always leaves me inspired to become a become a better musician, solely through performance. I imagine the difference is that a real lesson will actually make you a better musician.

My lessons are tailored to achieve YOUR goals, and I design a unique lesson plan to fit your learning style. MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

I strongly believe that playing music should be nothing but pure joy. Learning to play the drums is simply the process of training your body and mind to better express yourself using rhythm and timbre. This process can vary greatly from person to person, and the end result is different for everyone. Although the process of learning anything can feel like a chore at times, I believe every moment of study should be designed to achieve your personal goals. The learning process should be fun, and easy to navigate. Playing music becomes more fun the better you get, and the path to
