I've attended a number of masterclasses and group lessons with Andy in the past, and every learning experience has been enriching and engaging! He delves into the topic at hand with an all around approach, discussing history, pedagogical style, musical understanding, and of course, deliberate execution. When I'm working on my own, I often think back to many of the concepts he taught me, especially in regards to technique and mindfulness. As a music student, I'm grateful to be able to learn from him and am looking forward to arranging one-on-one lessons in the future!

Andy is a thoughtful, encouraging, and insightful instructor who is well versed in his studies of classical, world, orchestral, and chamber music amongst others. In his time filling in at Lawrence University while my primary instructor was on sabbatical, he gave me tips on how to internalize the "feel" of my repertoire, make my playing more efficient, increase my dynamic control on both mallet and battery instruments, and introduced me to the Afro-Colombian style of drumming. Andy's ability to cater to each student's individual needs and lesson curriculum is extremely impressive and inspiring.
Jonathan
As a percussionist studying in college, Andy is anything a student could ever ask for in terms of percussion expertise. Around UW Milwaukee, he gives excellent master classes and is able to lead full class sessions that delve into a LARGE array of topics. This may already be a selling point, but one on one lessons with Andy are outstanding. Mastery of many styles and instruments make it easy for Andy to give lessons on almost anything, including drumset, classical percussion, congas, etc. Great instructor!!

I have know Ty Key for over ten years, he is a human metronome. He can play any style of music and play it to perfection. I have seen him perform with different bands and different styles over the years and one thing is constant, his play stands out. I have seen him record at East West studios In LA tracking both live drums and the total live percussion set and the results were amazing. He plays in the pocket, both rhythm and solos. I could not feel more comfortable recommending someone who has mastered their craft more than Ty. He is easy to get along with and an outstanding teacher. He has worked as a drum technician and teacher at school ever since I’ve known him. He is a great person and you would lucky to learn from him.

Great teacher. Clear instruction. Vast knowledge of the instrument and it’s role in music.

I’ve known Ty for over ten years. He is one of the hardest working musicians I know, and works with integrity and all the highest positive qualities of a professional musician you could hope for. Any organization would benefit from Ty’s involvement.

This guys personal etiquette leaves much to be desired. Id never let him around my children. He is rude and argumentative when he doesn’t get his way.
Never seen him play out much to have all this expertise he claims either.
Fo yourself a favor and find someone else.

Great first lesson! My son was very comfortable and excited to keep going.

Lydia was very welcoming and kind, and put me at ease during our first lesson. She knew I wanted to work on mallet percussion, and had a lesson plan ready for me on the marimba. She moved at a pace that worked for me, and I already feel as though I have learned some basics. I'm excited to continue my lessons with her!
Mike
Lydia's teaching style is fantastic! As an older learner, she was very patient and understanding with me while still helping me reach my goals. She taught me many different ways of playing and different styles. It is a pleasure to be taught by such a remarkable percussionist!

You've got to walk before you can run, so I focus on the basics. But, the basics can be a lot of fun! Especially once we start to apply them to your favorite songs, and being creative with them - that's kind of what it's all about!

About Mike

Learning to play an instrument is a mixture of a lot of fun, and a lot of hard work. My strength is finding what will inspire my students to WANT to put in those difficult hours of practice, and then showing them how to apply what they have learned in a creative way, so that they experience the fu

Amazing, patient really informative instructor and just a great guy. Highly recommend.
Vince
Mike was really the best instructor I could have asked for. Knowledgeable, patient, and best of all, chill when he needed to be. I was just picking up the drums for a high school band I was in at the time, and he was more than willing to help me learn whatever dumb song me or my band had decided sounded cool at the time. At the same time, he showed me a lot of really excellent practice techniques, directed me to some solid literature for different rhythms to work on, and would sit with me through a whole hour of my relentless mistakes like it was nothing. More than a good instructor, he's a really cool guy! He never missed a beat!

Will was everything I expected. I was looking for someone to teach naturally as opposed to rote (boring) learning. I'm sure Will can do rote but he did what I asked.

He really knows his music and can teach in a way that gets my son directly into actually playing music, which is exactly what I was after.

He’s really flexible and can take anything and turn it into something good.

The pace was spot-on, matching perfectly the maximum my son could understand at the time.

I think my son learnt the absolute maximum he could in that short space of time and he learned a LOT.
