Easily one of the best teachers I've ever had for any subject! As a computer science graduate, I recognize quality instruction. Bill will guide you and help you understand from your perspective. For example, he translates my understanding of coding to improve my performance with Chords, Scales, Rhythm, strums, licks, and other things I continue to practice. I am starting from 0, but I am well on my way to the ultimate goal of performing at an amateur's night!

Jordan is incredibly accommodating, patient, and friendly. He teaches at a pace that challenges but doesn't overwhelm you which can lead to great results when the student puts the work in. I've loved all the work we put into classical music so far and have gained the confidence to approach any piece I want, while also recognizing that there's always more to learn and perfect!

Jeff is a seasoned musician and an excellent teacher! I highly recommend Jeff: he understood my music capabilities and learning style and adapted the lessons accordingly. I am new to music playing and Jeff understood.
This enabled me to learn more quickly.

Lessons are most enjoyable. Jeff's teaching technique is unique; he makes the most of the time to teach as much as possible without overwhelming.

Jeff is very pleasant and friendly. He has a great ear so can pickup what hole is being played and whether it's being played correctly. This was over zoom!

Thank you Jeff!

I don't write reviews often but I wanted to take the time to write a positive review for Francesca. She is more than just a music teacher. After a few lessons, I can confidently say she is a teacher and a friend. She is passionate about teaching music, but in addition, she cultivates enthusiasm in her students. I come away from my lessons feeling amazing - like I can play anything that I set my mind to. She is more like a coach than any teacher I have ever had, and it is making all the difference in my desire to continue to learn. Bravo!
Arianna
I’m not the type to ever leave a negative review. Mistakes happen, life happens, and nobody’s perfect. Except, I have gone to Francesca quite a few times and while she’s very knowledgeable in her area of teaching.. I have received zero respect for my time or money. She is late to every single lesson and I mean about 20 minutes late for an hour long lesson. First it was 10 minutes late, then 20, and then today she did not show up to the lesson at all. Even worse, she rescheduled the lesson AFTER not showing up without clarifying it with me first. If she reads this and decides to fix this problem… amazing. But, if you want to actually practice singing with a vocal coach to correct your technique and build muscle memory for better singing habits, then find a different teacher because you will sit there and listen to her talk the entire time about singing and then practice for MAYBE 5 minutes.
Nicole S.
My daughter has been taking singing lessons from Francesca! My daughter really loves how motivating and encouraging she is. Not only does she help her with her singing but also has great advice and encouraging words for her as she wants to pursue music as a career. Emma is excited for lessons each week and looks forward to learning from Francesca and takes her homework very seriously and practices every night! Highly recommend Francesca! She is amazing!

Why Should Your Child Learn Ukulele?

Learning a musical instrument is a great way to teach kids important values as well as improve their cognitive function. Plus, they’ll develop an exciting new skill that they can share with their friends and family. If you’re a parent, it’s likely that you’ve already considered enrolling your child in music lessons of some kind.

When it comes to choosing which musical instrument your child should learn, however, there are several factors at play. What kind of instrument will my child enjoy the most? What kind of instruments are the best for kids to learn? How will I find the right teacher for my child? If any of these questions or others have been weighing on your mind, you’re not alone.

Choosing a musical instrument for your child to pursue can be difficult, especially if your child doesn’t have a preference in the matter. Here are a few reasons why you should consider ukulele lessons for kids and the benefits of learning ukulele online.

The Benefits of Ukulele Lessons for Kids

Before you determine the distinct benefits of regular ukulele lessons for your child, it’s important to understand the benefits of music lessons in general. Studies show that music education for children at a young age can improve their development of language, boost their IQ, increase crucial neural activity, and improve the same spatial-temporal skills that doing math problems can.

It’s clear to see that regular exposure to music and music-making is part of a well-rounded education for any child, especially from a young age as they grow and transition into more formal schooling. However, determining the best form of musical exposure for your child can be a tricky question. Some of the most common instruments for kids to study are piano, guitar, and ukulele, and they all have their own sets of benefits and drawbacks.

Though learning piano can serve as a sturdy foundation for other instruments, it can be a difficult skill for children to grasp due to the often contrary motion of the hands when playing songs. Additionally, learning and playing guitar can be difficult for kids due to its size, especially for those on the younger and smaller side. The hand flexibility involved in guitar can also be difficult for children to master, and the steel strings on most acoustic and electric models can be tough and even painful on a child’s fingers.

Ukulele lessons for kids are a great way to get your child started on a musical journey without the many drawbacks that the other most common musical instruments typically have. The ukulele is small in size and lightweight, making it easy for most kids to hold. Additionally, the ukulele’s nylon strings are easier on little fingers than tough steel strings and easier to hold down on the fretboards than heavier strings are.

The History of the Ukulele

Even if you’ve never played a ukulele before, you likely recognize the sound as distinctly Hawaiian due to its important role in island culture. The first ukuleles were designed by native Hawaiians as early as the 1880s and were modeled after early iterations of the guitar, brought over by immigrants from Portugal. Shortly after its invention, the ukulele became an extremely integral part of Hawaiian culture and is still known as a Hawaiian staple today.

Though the ukulele has its roots in Hawaiian music and rituals, it has become an extremely popular instrument worldwide and is used in a variety of genres. The instrument first came to the American mainland around 1915 and was featured in several popular songs during that era and throughout the rest of the 20th century. Today, the ukulele can be used in just about any genre and is known for its signature soft, gentle strumming sound.

Though most people play a standard ukulele with the four strings tuned to G, C, E, and A, there are other models available such as the tenor and baritone ukuleles. The tenor ukulele features the same tuning as the standard ukulele but a slightly larger body, meaning it is able to create a louder, more pervasive sound. The baritone ukulele is even larger than the tenor and its four strings are typically tuned to D, G, B, and E, providing it with an even more resonant and reverberating sound than the standard or tenor ukuleles.

Get Started Learning Ukulele Online

Finding ukulele lessons for kids online is easier than ever with TakeLessons. Tracking down a high-quality teacher for in-person ukulele lessons through word of mouth can be difficult, but our website features a comprehensive list of hundreds of incredible ukulele teachers available at your fingertips.

Though some new music students can be apprehensive of the online learning process, it can actually boast some amazing benefits when compared to in-person music lessons. Travelling to and from your music teacher’s house or studio can be inconvenient, and you may not be comfortable having your child’s music teacher come to your home. With online ukulele lessons for kids, you don’t have to worry about either of these variables.

Online lessons allow your child the freedom to work on their new skill from the living room, their bedroom, or even the backyard—wherever they feel the most comfortable. Trying to work on a brand-new skill in an unfamiliar or intimidating environment can hinder the learning process even for adults, so you can imagine how difficult it can be for children. By learning ukulele online instead of at a teacher’s home or studio, your child can remain in the place they feel the most comfortable, therefore supporting their growth as a musician.

Utilizing online ukulele lessons for kids also allows you as the parent to be present for the lesson while still providing your child with the space to focus on their instrument with their teacher’s help. As your child learns their basic notes and rhythms, you can remain nearby and keep an eye out to make sure that you approve of what your child’s teacher is covering during the lesson.

How to Find a Great Teacher for Learning Ukulele Online

At TakeLessons, we feature a huge selection of highly qualified ukulele instructors that teach a variety of skill levels and ages. When searching for the best possible teacher of ukulele lessons for kids, it’s important to keep a few things in mind.

In order to narrow down your selection, you can use our customizable search function to remove any teachers that don’t provide lessons to beginners or don’t teach any students under a certain age. Additionally, you can enter how much you’d like to pay for weekly ukulele lessons, how long you want your child’s lessons to be, and when your ideal time for a weekly meeting would be.

Once you enter this data into the customizable search bar, you’ll be able to take your pick of several available ukulele teachers that fit all of your desired qualifications. If you want to know more about previous students’ experience with a specific teacher, you can read the reviews left on their profile and browse the ratings left by former and current students. This will give you a better idea of the teacher’s personality and their teaching style as well as how they typically format their lessons.

Even after you’ve thoroughly researched a potential teacher and their credits as well as the reviews left by their former and current students, you may still have more specific questions for the teacher. At TakeLessons, you can message any teacher you’d like before booking a ukulele lesson in order to get all of your questions answered and in order to feel more comfortable investing your money in a lesson for your child.
