I have a background in fundamental rhythm, rather than teaching the student to simply play, I teach them to read and write their own rhythms and drum beats in a fun and hands-on manner using methods that music teachers around the country use in their classrooms. Furthermore, I have years of experience teaching children as young as 4 years old from their very first lesson. I’ve developed my own method for children to read drum music using simple and an easy to understand rhythmic language.

First, I would like to get to know the student and their goals in order to tailor lesson plans to reach their goals. In general, many students I have taught in the past are interested in specific genres of music and drumming, so we would go over the necessary skills needed to play those genres. I also like to teach improvisation and chops, if you are interested in learning more of a solo drumming style then I can also facilitate that. The fundamentals I like to focus on are derived from the essential rudiments, video examples and the books: "The Art of Bop Drumming" and "A Funky Primer." Styles I like particularly are: bebop jazz, neo-soul and funk. Some contemporary drummers that I like particularly are: Carter Mclean, Yussef Dayes, Matt Gartska, Eric Harland and Brian Blade. I hope to teach drums in a way that allows for each student to develop their own style with which they can employ in any group setting.

I'm an experienced drum teacher and my main focus is to find out what your goals are and help you achieve them! Lesson with me are tailored to your specific needs in a fun and always musical way. You'll learn rudiments, technique, and reading while playing along to your favorite songs.

Personalized Lessons Based On What YOU Want To Play! We will look at the fundamentals needed to get you to be the drummer and musician you want to become. Everything from rudiments, coordination, dynamics, different styles and genres, picking up drum parts by ear and letting your inner musical imagination speak through the drum set will be the focus of my teaching. I also specialize in band dynamics such as rehearsing, performing, organizing and getting a band together. We'll learn a lot and most of all, we'll have a ton of fun doing it!

I started studying the Drums when I was a teenager. I wanted to learn in order to improve my rhythm and timing on the guitar but I fell in love with the drums and continued private lessons and studied on my own so that I could create and record my own material. I started teaching in 2009 and have worked with over 100 students. Some of my favorite drummers are Chad Smith from RHCP's, Dave Grohl from Nirvana and Foo Fighters, Jimmy Chamberlin from Smashing Pumpkins, Roger Taylor from Queen, and many many more.
There is not just one book that will give you everything you need so I teach from a number of books by different companies like Alfred, KJOS, Hal Leonard, Railroad media, song books, to individual pieces from music notes. I also create, print, and email custom lessons created on a program in my Mac.
I use Pearl drums, Zildjian Cymbals, Roland electronic set, Sabian pad, LP cow bell and bongos, Vick Firth sticks, Tama Iron cobra double bass pedal, Evens and Remo heads.

I'm a full time touring musician, I studied music in school for 8 years, but I can honestly say I've learned more about music through my years as a touring musician. I find great joy in sharing all the things I've learned over the years.

I like getting to know my students; their expectations and goals as an aspiring drummer, and I build my curriculum around their needs.
