Having played this instrument for over three decades, I cover the basic skills of the instrument. I can teach on both electric and pipe organ. I've played some of the largest instruments in the midwest, including, the Molar Organ at Detroit's Metropolitan Methodist Church just north of the new center area in Detroit. Studies on the foot pedals are a must. I require at least ten years of study on the piano before beginning the study of the organ. Beginning students must be at least fifteen years old. Organ lessons are only taught at the studio site of Detroit's Afro-American Mission.

About Cheryl

I have worked for over 30 years as a professional accompanist and musician in the greater metropolitan Detroit area. I have earned several degrees, which include a Bachelor of Music Performance in Organ and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Music both from Wayne State University. My studies

I have been playing organ professionally for 9 years. I own a 122R Leslie cabinet, and I've used countless Hammond organs and Leslie cabinets through the years.

I can teach anything about organ, and I can show students a few tricks and things to think about while playing organ.

I had the great gift of teaching Shannon over ten years ago. She then went on to Westminster Choir College to pursue a piano performance degree, where she fell in love with conducting and the organ. Shannon has since completed her Master's degree at Manhattan School of Music (on almost a full scholarship!) and is now inspiring the next generation of singers, pianists, and organists.

Shannon cares deeply about her craft and her students - she is that rare combination of dazzling performer and encouraging, informative teacher. When I moved out of New York, I had the great fortune to pass along so many of my own students to continue their tutelage under her watchful eye.

Shannon is not your average piano teacher. She is passionate about music and her students, and she endows them with a love for music through her encouraging and inspiring approach. She doesn't just teach the pieces, she teaches musicality. Shannon really cares about her students. She has taught piano to all three of my daughters and I cannot recommend her highly enough.
Julie M.
Miss Shannon M. is committed to providing excellent training in piano for students of all ages.

Shannon M. has a heart for music and specifically the piano. That heart for music shows itself in her teaching. She is an accomplished musician in her own right, playing both the piano and organ. As a teacher she is professional, yet deeply personal towards each student regardless of age or level of playing.

I have seen her in action as she teaches and also during the student recitals. I can highly recommend her to you as a teacher.

Born in the Midwest, I spent seven graduate years in Paris performing, teaching, and researching. I have come to see music lessons as both a personal process of body awareness and harnessing mental energy, and as an interpersonal process of exploring the dynamic between student and teacher. To beginners: anyone at any age can learn basic organ skills if they devote ten minutes a day to it. To intermediate players: my goal is to train you to be your own primary teacher. To advanced students: I can give you artistic colors for the palette and tools for the journey.

About Laura

Music is personal and brings us into contact both with ourselves and with a force beyond us. I am passionate about the spiritual awareness that results from the study of performing arts. I have worked with ages 5 to 75, with kids, youth, and adults with ADD, ADHD, OCD, anxiety issues, cerebral

Laura is a fantastic teacher and extremely knowledgeable in all things music. She’s “a wealth of knowledge,” according to her colleagues. Laura is kind, patient, and has worked especially well with anxious adult students, like me. She is also calm and gives excellent advice for improving my voice, I leave her lessons feeling encouraged. I am fortunate to have found her!
Esther K.
Laura's been absolutely great with our children (now 10 and 11). She tailors her teaching style to each one, interacting with them at their level, engaging them, and pushing their music forward -- both their practical skills and their understanding of music itself -- in a manner that seems fun and personal. One of my children just asked what I was doing, and when told and asked if he had anything to say about Laura he replied:
"She is very nice and she is funny and she is a very good teacher"

3 Reasons Why Piano Players Should Also Learn the Organ

There are many reasons why a music student may find themselves learning to play piano on a keyboard rather than on a baby grand: cost, space, or simply lack of access, for example. Versatility on a range of keyboard instruments is also an extremely useful string for any pianist to have to their bow, and can lead to greater practice and public performance opportunities, and even excellent opportunities to earn a little money on the side. The organ, although not the most prevalent or popular musi …
