Garrett is incredibly personable and knowledgeable, the best attributes of a great teacher! I've learned so much from him already and am looking forward to more to come in future lessons. I'd highly recommend Garrett to learn basics and beyond of dj'ing.

Garrett, is very knowledgeable, professional, patient and thorough. He continuously checks for understanding and is enthusiastic and passionate about what he does. My son had his first lesson and is very excited and is looking forward to his future lessons!

Garrett was patient, kind, and professional when he meet with my son virtually. I was a little worried about how the meet was going to go because it was virtual; however, he did an excellent job rearranging the camera whenever he needed to provide the appropriate angles for my son to learn.

In our percussion class we will cover music theory, counting rhythms and discover a variety of percussion. The majority of this lesson will revolve around the Cajon, Shaker, Tamborine, and using brushes and snare technique and will explore african drums as well!

Bring your hacky sack and get ready for the drum circle. This class is perfect for groups and couples. Feel free to use the "ask a question" feature if you have any questions about this class or it's outline!

About Rachel

I started my musical path in a Ballet Studio. I fell in love with the crackle of the vinyl record playing as I learned to listen and dance with the rhythm. I started playing the guitar when I was in elementary and took classical lessons until I was a teenager.I really enjoy the art of practice

Although I only had 1 lesson with him so far, I can say he's a very good teacher and I had fun.

Vir is a gifted teacher. He has taught my son guitar for more than a year. He meets my son where ever he's at in his practice, attention and interests with calm, skilled focus and intention . Vir's background as performing musician infuses his teaching with an enthusiasm and creativity of practicing his teaching. We are truly grateful for Vir.

A Guru

Vir is beyond your typical vocal coach. He was a huge help on things like pitch accuracy and phrasing, but more than anything, his focus on getting me to tap into and harness my inner power has already paid huge dividends in my recordings and performances. Further, Vir is an amazing person to know and his home-studio in Berkeley is magnificent!

So far so good. First meeting jitters are over. Kevin has a nice calm about him which makes it easy to listen. I've got some homework and looking forward to my next lesson.
Melissa
Kevin is wonderful to work with. Very knowledgeable, very calm, pleasant personality. He wanted to know first what I wanted to do, but was prepared to start me with the basics - scales - which is where I want to be proficient, so that I can master the instrument. I have no doubt that I can do that with Kevin. Just spent a few minutes practicing my C-major scale using the L-R-R-L-L method. Works great! I just checked email and he'd sent me the printouts he promised. Looking forward to next week!

I am thrilled to hear that you or your kid is ready to start taking drum lessons! I have been teaching drum set and percussion for ten years, and last year finished my master's in percussion performance at CU, after a music education degree in Michigan.

I start my students off with "repeat after me" style exercises, to develop technique, coordination, and musical tone on the instruments. Then, we can dig into playing the music (s)he loves! I'm always curious to hear if there is a certain band or drummer my student admires.

About Stephen

Hey drummers! I am a working drummer and percussionist in all major styles, from blues, funk, and jazz to classical and marching band. In my off time, I enjoy playing in the mountains with my girlfriend and our cat.

Nancy
My son has a great student–teacher relationship. It takes the right teacher to help enjoy learning while challenging him to improve with each lesson and not to short any song. Steve's online sound experience has really impressed us.
Dale Smith
I played an organ years ago ( I am 70 years old) and lost a lot of skills. I now have a digital piano, but I was not satisfied with my progress.

So I signed up for lessons with Steve. I took piano lessons from Steve for about 18 months. I moved about an hour away, so it was not practical to continue with him.

The lessons from Steve were exactly what I was looking for. He figured out my skill level and set up a plan for me. He stressed the fundamentals while teaching a song at the same time. Being able to play a song, even a simple one, was a great reward. Then we progressed to develop more skills and more interesting songs.

Steve is patient, attentive and a good coach. He genuinely loves teaching and finds that “spark” in to build on. I saw this many times as I would listen to him teaching the student before me.

Steve is a great teacher and I strongly recommend him.
Nicole
Steve is a great instructor and took the time to work through any challenges and helped our son grow as a drummer. He has a great virtual setup that makes it sound you are in the studio with him.

"Kevin asked pertinent questions about my background and used that information to tailor the first lesson. He went beyond the scheduled 30 minutes to provide a complete and coherent beginning to my studies: the extra time did not upset my schedule and I appreciated his going beyond to get me off to a good start. Kevin had a lot of stuff to present yet allowed me to interrupt with questions, which he knowledgeably answered. His personality is relaxed and friendly. Observing him with another student before my lesson, I saw that he offered criticism considerately.
My first lesson was a good experience (4 stars). I don't know if he is the best ever (5 stars), but he must be darn close."

"My 11 year old son lost his drum teacher, and we found TakeLessons online. The hardest part is choosing a teacher because many are all top notch 5-Star rated. I picked Tracy D. seemingly at random!

What a lucky draw it turned out to be. Tracy is a real pro, with a great personality. It took my son less than a few minutes before he was comfortable, having fun, and learning new things (he has 1 year experience).

I’ve been a part time musician for over 40 years, and I can tell you when I meet someone that is a true professional musician and the right person to teach my son. That is this exceptional woman."
