Experienced in contemporary song writing, as well as writing and arranging music for church worship music, choral music, strings, and classical guitar. Experienced in both playing and recording by ear, as well as writing down formal music charts and scores.

About Geoff

I played on a toy piano when I was very young, learning a bit of sight reading from my Mother, while listening to classical, jazz, and rock music. When I was 12, I learned guitar and later took private piano lessons from a prominent Philadelphia instructor. After playing in a rock band in high sc

I totally enjoyed my class with Geoff. We immediately started my lesson with tuning the ukulele. Then we went over the cords and strumming. I have been researching on playing the ukulele and his explanation on the strumming was a lot better than the book. He is teaching me how to play by listening to the notes which is great because I would be able to play the Hawaiian music for my hula classes. In addition, his studio is only a 5 minute drive from my house, which means I don’t have to deal with traffic.

I encourage all students to try writing music or at least coming up with their own basic ideas. I will then work with the student's ideas to help them learn how to develop an initial idea into a large more complete musical form. If the student is able to write more complete songs I will coach them in techniques to improve the structure, harmony and melody of their work. I try to demonstrate ways that they can improve their writing without simply rewriting their ideas for them. For all of this I draw on my many years of experience as a composer. I try to guide the student towards developing a process of writing music that works for them. My main goal is to help them to grow into their own musical voice rather than to simply do what I suggest.

About Dennis

I have been teaching guitar for 25 years in the Washington DC metro area. I work with students 12 years of age and up, but I am especially experienced at teaching adult students regardless of whether they are beginners or have previous guitar experience. I have performed in acoustic Celtic, new age

This was my first ever guitar lesson and I thought it was a blast. The instructor took the time to explain best practices and why they were so important. I also really enjoyed seeing the instructor's passion for the guitar and that passion made the whole experience even better!

Dennis is a fabulous teacher! I took lessons for 2 (?) years from him in high school, entering with decent knowledge of music from other instruments but only beginner-intermediate guitar skills from self-teaching and guitar class in school (what a joke). From the very start he adjusted to my level, asking me to play something I knew and identifying the chords that I had (unknowingly) played, and creating an exercise for me to practice new chords at home. Lessons were nothing but fun and informative; Dennis is a great conversationalist and incredibly knowledgeable about music theory. His lessons are full of variety: scales (different positions and modes), progressions (written on the spot by Dennis), improvisation (with live accompaniment), transcriptions (of your favorite songs), and learning from the book. Looking back, I progressed immensely under Dennis’s tutelage, from barely playing barre chords to writing my own music in different modes! It certainly doesn’t hurt that Dennis treats his students as equals, and that his home is always welcoming. He’s invested, not the type of teacher to chase you off once your “time’s up.” If I hadn’t gone off to college, I’d still be taking lessons from him for sure! Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for enjoyable, enriching guitar lessons.

Dennis has a great comprehensive approach to teaching guitar. He helps you understand the nuances of the instrument, and provides specific instruction based on your individual needs. He has a wealth of experience and knowledge, and shares anecdotes about those experiences to help better understand topics relevant to your own personal pursuit of improved playing.

Even if you aren't sure exactly what you want to get out of lessons, Dennis is quick to provide material that will help you improve your skills. They are laid out in a clear way and act as a great resource to add to your collection of practice material.

I'm happy I took lessons with Dennis, and others should definitely work with him if looking for a laid back atmosphere and a steady pace of improvement and understanding.

I am a professional Singer Songwriter and my specialty is in teaching singers how to write their own lyrics and melody.

About Hilary

I am a professional singer in Austin Texas. I play live shows, I have gone on tour and have released an album. I love teaching people what I know. Love my classes with Hilary so far! I'm developing myself as a songwriter to launch my professional music project very soon. Half of the class is basic piano in order to be able to come up with melodies and the other half is writing lyrics/songs. Hilary is very sweet, patient and explains terms/theory in a very clear and easy way to understand. Songwriting can be a very vulnerable thing to do and Hilary creates a safe, professional space for the writing to happen. I'm excited to take more classes with her and definitely recommend her!

I try to help each songwriter become the best writer they can be through their own sound and language. During the lessons, I do quite a bit of analysis of a student's favorite pieces, as well as my own...then incorporate that into their own songwriting process.

About Joe

I absolutely love teaching music! After over 20 years of teaching, performing, writing, and recording in all styles/genres, it continues to be a great adventure. It is a joy to pass this on to others...especially seeing my students that never touched the instrument going on to be very proficient

We will learn the basics of composition by listening to music extensively and by studying the principles of music theory. We will explore popular styles, chord progressions, and techniques most commonly used in songwriting.

About Frixos

Frixos states that his love for music probably started before he was born. “I’m pretty sure the Motown sounds my mother loved to listen and move to permeated to me through her.” Add to that his exposure to different ethnic sounds like Greek (his origins) folklore and contemporary music, Portuguese

"In the course of a few lessons with Gfire, I (with coaching) wrote a song that I felt pretty good about. I've written a few songs before and had learned the basics, but I enjoyed learning her method (which, in a phrase, would have to be "keep going") and I plan to use it to see if it'll help with my productivity. Gfire was always very upbeat and positive without being phony, encouraging without being demanding, so the lessons were always enjoyable. I would recommend her."
