About Thomas
I am an energetic, enthusiastic teacher who cares deeply about the student's musical learning experience.
My music studies began in Louisville with well-regarded teachers John Roy (drumset) and Rick Mattingly (percussion). I later studied music at Bellarmine College and the University of Louisville School of Music. As a professional musician I have shared the bandstand with countless masters of jazz, rock and blues. A partial list includes legend jazz guitarist Jimmy Raney, vocalist Helen Hume (sang with Count Basie), local guitar legend Jeff Sherman, rhythm and blues group Backstreets, and many more. I currently play weekend nights at Volare Restaurant with multi-style group Jazz Vineyard. I do individual dates with Jazzcrafters, regularly record at two local studios, and Sundays I play in a Christian rock group
My hope is that my passion for music, experience, enthusiasm, and caring attitude will be a winning combination for my students.
*** Lesson Details ***
You can expect a teacher who is dedicated to helping the student realize his or her potential. My preference is to combine music reading, technique, and real-world playing experience; encouraging progress, but working at the student's pace. Reading music is important to the music student--since it is the language all of us musicians use. Some students may not care to read, and that is okay. We can work on technique and specific drum styles and patterns. All students are welcome to bring their music preferences to our lessons but I will usually attempt to expand the student's repertoire.
Lesson materials include: method books covering reading, styles, technique; specific songs suggested by either student or teacher; and materials written by the teacher.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in nice office studio which is located on the first floor of our Highlands home. Full keyboard available for the piano lessons.
*** Travel Equipment ***
The student will need to have his/her instrument.
I will provide music samples and method books or list of books the student should buy.
Drum set, drums pads, and/or electronic drum set, xylophone, and percussion instruments supplied in teacher's studio.
*** Specialties ***
My strongest genres include jazz, jazz rock, latin jazz, rock, blues, and country but I teach others as well. I help the student build on the basics, creating a strong foundation, and then we branch out... .

Tom is an excellent drum instructor. He makes lessons fun but also covers the important material. He has a lot of experience in multiple styles and is able to share that with the student.

About Scott
*Update again. My student made all state!
I have been playing drums and percussion since the ripe old age of 9, in 4th grade. Originally wanting to play the clarinet, my music teacher thought my sense of rhythm was too good to waste and placed me in the drum section. I was the only kid who didn't want to play drums. Twenty years later here I am, a professional freelancing percussionist and teacher. The journey to where I am was a long and winding one but I can't imagine it any other way. After learning basic drumming in elementary sch
If you choose me as a teacher, I will shape you as an overall musician, not just a "Drummer". What this means is that you won't just learn beats from me, you will learn all the fundamentals of basic to intermediate music theory, from note reading and rhythm to chord changes and ..... You will start on a practice pad and quickly go to a drum kit. Lessons will be half and half, but more 75/25 drumkit, because everything you learn on a pad can translate to the kit! I would also teach you timpani and xylophone if you like so you can broaden your horizons and even get into the middle/high school or college you want. I have most of my books of pdf that I can give you to print or you can purchase your own copies. You would also need to purchase a practice pad and eventually a drum kit. If you don't want to purchase a drum kit then there is almost no reason to study it since you won't be able to practice between lessons. Practicing, let's talk about that. It is expected that you practice the material we learn in the lesson throughout the week. Now I know everyone is busy, but if you can put aside 25 minutes (a sitcom without commercials!!) a day then you will have a better understanding and better retention of the material. Doing this will let us just review the material a little bit and go on to learn new and exciting things.
The bottom line in choosing me? I am a professional musician in the trenches of the nyc music scene and know what it takes to make it.

About John
Hear are instruments I play professionally: Acoustic & Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar and Drum Set. I also have performed and led worship with the Electronic Keyboard. I can do beginner lessons in all of the above and Banjo, Mandolin & Fiddle.
Over the years I have enjoyed leading Worship Bands, forming Praise Teams, joining the "pit" for Musical Theater, Bluegrass Band, Solo Guitar & Voice and Background Music on the Keyboard. The list goes on and on and on AND the list is not finished yet. Have written quite a few songs and worked with other song writers on their pieces. If you hope to be a singer/son
Great success teaching the above instruments as well. The youngest student taught is 5 years old and the most mature was 72 years young!
I want you to know that I am a Christian. My love for Jesus continues to grow and I have always been careful to screen certain songs out of my repertoire and teaching.
Let me share with you My Love of Music and get you where you are hoping to go with yours.

I've performed in Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Konzerthaus, and all over Europe and America with musicians from all over the globe. I want to share the knowledge of music-making I've gained from these experiences with you.
Every lesson is 100% about the student's goals. Whether it's learning to play certain songs by bands you like, preparing All-County and All-State music for auditions, or getting into college, I can help because I've been there. Together, we can set musical goals and accomplish them - and who knows, maybe even enjoy the music along the way!
I've taught all levels of performer, and various levels of music theory, and believe we as musicians should furnish our performance abilities with theory, and give my students a grounding in music theory as much as possible.
About Neil
Studying with me, you can get a vary wide variety of skills. My varied background goes from playing drum set in bands in college, to commissioning and performing classical percussion music, to touring with an orchestra performing 9 concerts in 13 days. While not all of those skills are for everyone, all of them share a demand for strong fundamental techniq
Many of my students are interested in succeeding in their band and orchestra classes. These students go through a curriculum which can be tailored to their strengths and weaknesses to ensure they have the best chance for success in the classroom. This curriculum can be made available upon contact.
My home studio has the following instruments:
Adams 4.3 octave Padouk Marimba
Mapex 4-piece drumset with cymbals
Pearl Philharmonic Snare Drum
Set of 4 Ludwig Universal Timpani
Whatever your musical interests may be, I can help you succeed. I look forward to meeting you!
